Our hot water heater went out on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. A salesman came out to fill out paperwork for a Monday delivery/install, and told me that I could have a morning appointment so that I did not miss work in the evening. No one ever showed up on Monday, so I was forced to move the appointment until the next day when they had not yet arrived by 3pm (when I needed to leave for work). I once again requested a morning appointment for the next day, and the salesman said it would not be an issue. On Tuesday, I got a call around 3pm that day saying I was the next stop, but then it was 6pm and no one had showed up yet. They had accidentally skipped me, and to not throw off every other appointment, they decided to bump me to the end of their list...without even calling to tell me. So at nearly 6:30pm two gentleman came with the wrong water heater. It physically could not fit in the space it needed to go. I guess the salesman evidently didn't look/measure the space. The install men called the store to see if a water heater, that was the correct size, was at their warehouse, so that it could be installed the next day. However, the store told us they couldn't fit us in their schedule on Wednesday, and with the holiday, the soonest they could install it was the Monday after Thanksgiving. When I asked if they really, honestly, expected us to be okay with having no hot water for over a week (and over the Thanksgiving holiday no less), they said "yeah, basically". I also found out that a computer makes the schedule for the deliveries, and there is no way to request appointments for certain times of the day. So the salesman lied, twice, about their ability to give us a morning appointment. I asked for the entire thing to be canceled then and there, and I will never be using any of their...
Read moreFor the past 30 years we have purchased every one of our appliances at Recker and Boerger. No more. In late June/early July we purchased a new refrigerator. A few hours after it was installed we called Recker and Boerger to let them know that there was something wrong with the shelf in the freezer. We were told we now had to go through the warranty company. I wasn't happy, but called the warranty company--who never called us back. In the meantime, the fridge never cooled down. It stayed at a constant 60 degrees. We lost all of our food. R&B told me to contact the warranty company again. After speaking to our salesman, Mark Wolf, and finally a manager named Eric, they decided to replace the defective refrigerator, after blaming everyone else for the problem, and absolutely refusing to accommodate a time that was appropriate for us (they wouldn't even give me a time-frame of when the swap would occur). The new refrigerator is not cooling either. The coldest we can get it is 42 degrees (a fridge has to be 40 degrees or under for milk). The warranty company has looked at it once. We have a second appointment coming up. We've taken off so much time from work for this stupid refrigerator. Not once has anyone apologized for our inconvenience. No one is willing to meet us halfway on anything. All anyone at Recker and Boerger does is blame GE. I was told, "After purchasing so many appliances from us, you were bound to get a bad one at some point." I just want the refrigerator picked up and my money back. The absolute lack of customer service and empathy is disappointing and frustrating. It's too bad because I was always recommending Recker and Boerger to friends and...

When our refrigerator died, we went to Recker & Boerger and bought a new high-end replacement. We hoped that, being a local business, we would get better customer service than a big box store. We told the salesperson that our kitchen is on the third floor of our house (without an elevator), and he added an additional charge to cover the difficult delivery and installation. We were happy to pay this charge as we realized that getting the refrigerator to the third floor would be challenging.
When the refrigerator arrived, the delivery person told us they were unwilling to take it to the third floor and would either leave it on the first floor and not accept any responsibility after that or take it back. As we needed it installed in our kitchen, we had no choice but to ask them to return it. I contacted various people at Recker & Boerger, and they had no interest in helping us find a solution to installing the refrigerator we had just bought from them in our kitchen. Ultimately, they returned our money, leaving us without a fridge.
Subsequently, we bought the same refrigerator from The Appliance Loft in Oakley for a slightly lower price. Their delivery team installed it in our third-floor kitchen without damaging our walls, hardwood floors, or the refrigerator. Unlike Recker & Boerger, The Appliance Loft team was customer-focused and a pleasure...
