I would like to start off my saying this was my first time coming to Montgomery Inn because I had a gift card and it will certainly be my last time.
It started with their rude valet parking attendants. Since this was my first time coming, I had to use Apple Maps to find it and it brings you straight to their valet which they don’t mark properly. When asked if I wanted valet I parking I told them no and they quickly left before I could ask where I could park. I thought I had found a spot but when I pulled in one of the attendants jumped out of the car they were parking and quite literally shooed me away. I ended up parking 2 blocks away and walking.
When I finally arrived I came to the front to check in for my reservation. The lady at the desk did not greet me in any way, I understood they were busy but a simple “I’ll be right with you” isn’t hard. A server then came up to complain about one of his colleagues so they started to gossip about that. She finally gave me her attention by staring at me without a word so I told her I had a reservation, she rambled off 3 different excuses as to why it wasn’t ready so we had to wait. After 30 minutes of waiting we were finally seated.
When seated we were given mediocre bread white bread and small blocks of frozen butter. I ordered the brisket sandwich and requested their spicy chipotle bbq sauce instead of the original. When it came out, they still put the original sauce on my sandwich and gave me a side of the spicy sauce. The brisket had a weird soft texture and just didn’t have a ton of flavor. My mom and girlfriend both ordered the pulled pork sandwich which looked like mush and was soggy so they ate it with a fork. My dad had the bbq spring chicken and was disappointed by it.
All together it was a very disappointing experience and I feel bad for the person who wasted their money on the gift card. I won’t be returning and if anyone wants good BBQ I recommend checking...
Read moreHave been going to this restaurant for over 30 years. My family holds birthday parties and Fathers Day stuff here all the time but the last few years we haven't went as much. Someone gave my wife and I a $50 gift card so I was excited to go back. I went online and made a reservation because we were going on a Friday night and this place is usually busy on a Friday. Showed up for the dinner excited and ready to go. Valeted my car (great cheap convenience) and went inside and noticed it was slower than I expected. We were taken right to our table, there were a lot of empty tables. And I have to say this, noticed the crowd was not young AT ALL. Waitress came over to get our orders and my wife had to repeat everything she said because the waitress was hard of hearing. They brought her THREE DIFFERENT DRAFT BEERS and all 3 were warm. They did take them off the check, only after a myriad of excuses about the lines being checked and also them attempting to bring a "cold one from the bar" - it was warmer than the previous 2 lol I got a wedge salad (hard to screw up) and it was good but the brisket sandwich was clearly old and reheated. I know this because I myself make brisket all the time and it should not be tough to chew like that. I also know because after the meal I got familiar with their bathroom, which was very nice I must say and is why they got a 2. If the toilet wasn't so spacious for the destruction the brisket did to my insides I would have given a 1. On the way out we walked by the bar and there was a band playing, the room looked like they brought a bus over from the retirement community. She's clearly fallen on hard times :( I'll still buy their...
Read moreWe went to Montgomery Inn last night for the first time in several years, and it brought back memories. Unfortunately, they were memories of how good MI used to be and how far they’ve fallen since then.
I ordered the pork chops because of how juicy, tender, and flavorful they were in the past, but last night they were overcooked, dry, and tough. The Cantonese shrimp appetizer was also overcooked and not even close to how good they were in the past. Even the sweet and hot dipping sauce was almost all sweet with very little hot mustard.
My wife had the ribs and chicken and the Ribs King salad. As with the pork chops, the ribs were overcooked and dry (a far cry from the way they used to be) but at least the sauce came to the rescue to add some flavor and moisture. Her salad was missing its croutons and barely had a touch of color with only a small sliver of carrot. At least the blue cheese dressing was still as good as we remembered.
I speculate that our ribs and pork chops sat under the heat lamps way too long after they were prepared given that we didn’t get our food for well over 30 minutes after we ordered it.
As for cleanliness, the edge of our table (the vertical edge facing me) was sticky - most likely from someone spilling BBQ sauce days, weeks, or months ago. It probably would have taken a knife to scrape it off because my napkin had no effect on it.
Perhaps we could blame MI’s poor performance on it being Greater Cincinnati Restaurant week, but whenever we have gone to other restaurants during a restaurant week event, those restaurants shined - but not...
