We gathered here for my good friend's retirement party.
My husband and I had never been, so we didn't know what to expect. We arrived early to be sure of a parking spot.
When we entered under the green awning we were in the main bar area. Thinking there might be a reserved room in the back, we walked to the left of the bar into another part of the establishment. What a pleasant surprise to see another bar and a much larger room. This area contains tall tables and stools, a stage and a pool table. That's where we gathered.
The atmosphere was perfect for a group of friends to casually gather for a retirement celebration.
The menu was limited for Lenten Friday diners, but the food we ordered was delicious. Crinkle Fries were crisp on the outside, hot and tender on the inside. They were served in a good size basket with a side dish of ketchup. Mozzarella sticks came 5-6 per serving with a dipping dish of marinara. They were so good that we could have easily eaten 6 more. The pretzel bites are "incredible". Hot and tender with a melted butter flavor that teases your mouth to crave more. My favorite was the cheese quesadilla. Thinking we would have to settle for boring tortillas with melted cheese between the layers (and no meat), I was not expecting what we were served. The tortillas were crisp AND tender, filled with a combination of cheese, peppers, onions and mushrooms, making it a taste-bud treat. This was rounded out with a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Be aware that the kitchen does not officially open until 5 PM.
Our server (I can't remember her name) was just back from maternity leave and never missed a beat. She kept up with orders and tabs, always with a smile on her face.
I would highly recommend this place for any gathering of friends, family, neighbors, co-workers...or a night out with your...
Read moreThe Village Tavern is a great place to go watch whatever game is on, to go kill some time between the kid's practices, to go have a drink after work or to stop in for a couple drinks and some food on a weekend afternoon. We haven't eaten much off their (relatively) new menu this past year, but... The potato skins are pretty good, not too small & big enough to share. The poppers were the standard popper you see most places. Tacos are pretty good, and there's a taco special every week. The wings are decent sized with the usual assortment of sauces plus a Carolina Mustard sauce and a tasty lemon pepper rub. Unfortunately, the blue cheese for the wings wasn't anything to write home about. In fact, it was thinner than the ranch my wife had. The Cuban sandwich would be a lot better with a decent roll to be pressed in. I'm not a queso on my nachos kind of guy, but if you like liquid cheese versus melted shredded, these are for you. All in all, good food. We go there not for dinner but to watch whatever game happens to be on while having a few drinks and some grub. With that in mind, you'll be fine here. As to the bar, the booze selection is all your basic liquors with some extra nice bourbons thrown in here and there. There are 2 sides to the physical bar, so don't be dismayed if you walk in and don't see a spot right away. Draft beer selection is good and varied with probably 10-12 to choose from. I don't order canned beer there, but I imagine there are no shortages in the selection area there. The bartenders are attentive and friendly, especially with the regulars. If you find yourself in the area with some time to kill or a craving for a...
Read moreI’ve been a regular at The Village Tavern for quite some time, both during the day and night, and I’m disappointed by the direction the bar has taken since the new owner took over.
The most obvious change? The music. All rap has been removed from the TouchTunes, which feels like a targeted and racially motivated decision. Music is a huge part of the bar’s atmosphere, and the exclusion of an entire genre—one that’s deeply rooted in Black culture—is not just tone-deaf, it’s outright discriminatory.
Beyond the music, it’s clear that the new owner doesn’t care about the regulars who have supported this place for years. Whether it’s the daytime crowd or the late-night regulars, we’re being ignored in favor of changes that do nothing to improve the bar’s community vibe.
To make matters worse, the bar stayed open during heavy construction. No one wants to enjoy a drink while breathing in dust and debris. It’s not just unprofessional, it’s unhealthy—and shows a lack of concern for both customers and staff.
The bartenders, especially the good ones who’ve built strong relationships with customers, are now at risk of losing money and loyal patrons because of these poor decisions. The direction this place is heading in feels like a step backward, not forward.
This bar used to feel like home for a lot of people. Sadly, under the current ownership, it’s becoming a place many no longer...
