At 10:52 AM today, I ordered coffee, a ham and cheese omelette, hash browns and sourdough bread. The order came out a bit too quickly, which raised my suspicions. My suspicions were confirmed when I looked at the hash browns.
They are not cooking hash browns to order. They were lukewarm with obviously old and crusty strips of potato on top and bottom. In order to save time in the kitchen the cooks will pre-cook the hash browns warming area of the griddle. There they sit and dry out and become brittle on top and bottom and cool off until someone orders them.
The coffee was very good and the omelet was delicious. But the hash browns were so disappointing that I pointed out to the waitress when she checked on us that the hash browns had obviously been precooked and set aside to warm and they were not good. She apologized and asked if I would like a new order of hash browns. Expecting that they would simply give me another order of the pre cooked and kept warm hash browns, I said no that's alright I'll eat these.
I picked up the check and went to the front to pay. The cashier was apparently busy elsewhere but when she did show up I handed her the ticket and she asked how everything was. I said, "Everything was good except the hash browns".
No reaction whatsoever from the cashier. She's simply punched in whatever information she had to in order to call up the ticket, and then put her hand out for my debit card. I said, "The hash browns were not good. They precook them and then slid them to a warming area on the grill where they got old crusty and cool off significantly, until someone orders them".
She said, "I don't have anything to do with what goes on in the kitchen".
I never said that she did. I was simply reporting a substandard menu item to a staff member in the hopes that they would pass along to management that a customer had complained that the practice of pre-cooking hash browns and setting them off in a warming area until someone ordered them was resulting in substandard food going out and customer dissatisfaction . If there's to be any improvement in the quality of food or service, customer complaints need to be passed along to management for corrective action. It was obvious that the cashier could not be bothered to even register that I had made a complaint, let alone pass it along to potentially improve customer...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I have gone to village inn multiple times, and every time except the most recent trip has been exceptional. They do what the can to make service fast on a busy day, and bring the food pretty fast. As well as the servers have always been great, and the food is delicious and filling. However, on this trip, I was extremely disappointed with the customer service that our waitress used on us. We were an easy table of 2, asking for water, and knowing exactly what we wanted to order. But almost every question or comment we had, the waitress would interrupt us, cut us off, or simply reply very snarky. Then at the end, once we got the receipt, she was the person that checked us out. I mentioned I had some rewards that I would like to use if possible, and she cut me off saying “well if it’s on an app, it’s not us.” And I said that’s okay I have it on safari, and she stares at my phone that I was showing her, acting annoyed I was wanting to use rewards. She then said “well what’s your phone number” and I started to say my phone number, when she cut me off again and said woah, calm down, and slow down. (I was actively shocked at this point and looked at my boyfriend to show my surprise. She then looked at me and rolled her eyes. I was not going fast, and I was speaking clearly, as I work in customer service and I understand how frustrating that could be. I have never had anyone tell me to calm down or slow down. I told her my phone number and she flipped the screen to me, where I still tipped because we had a good experience otherwise. She said thanks and walked away. I have never had worst customer in my life. I cannot remember her name, as she never told us or introduced herself, and I can’t remember if there was a name tag. The only thing I remember was her hair was in a bun, and she had a mole or birthmark on her face. I also heard her speaking with a elderly couple who were ordering and I heard her say something along the lines of “well you’re trying to order this but you keep pointing at this so what do you want”. I understand having a bad day and being frustrated but this server needs to be spoken to and has to be better. She really ruined the experience we have always had at...
Read moreI have been to many restaurants in the 77 short years I’ve been alive. I have had my fair share of bad service as well as great service. But I have never been treated any better than I did by my server Kelcie today. I have been coming here for years with my husband, son and grandkids and have never had a bad experience, always great. But Kelcie had gone so far above and beyond our expectations today that I had to write my first review. You guys were super busy, she was training another young lady, and she was fantastic! I appreciate a server who makes sure that not one, but all of her customers are satisfied and acknowledged. And not even just hers, but everyone around! She handled our table of 4 adults and 2 children with a perfect display of relaxed competence. I don’t think there was a time that she didn’t make us smile. Phenomenal with children as well. I can only give so much praise. So go find out for yourself! Always Great food. Always great atmosphere, always great service. But today had been exceptional and you should all be proud. Will be back. Especially on Wednesdays for...
