I dined in Sunday evening 6/4/2023 and the restaurant was empty except for one other person dining alone. I figured most people take orders to go.
The food was good. I ordered Goat Vindaloo hot, chicken korma medium, aloo golbi medium, garlic naan and white rice. This was plenty of food for two people, but was around $60, including tax before tip. That said, my experience has been that Indian and Pakistani restaurants tend to be on the more expensive side, so relatively this place wasn't any more or less expensive.
The goat vindaloo was very good, however some pieces of meat were tough, while others were tender. The sauce was thick, savory and spicy, but not so hot it wasn't enjoyable. Any dish can be ordered mild, medium or hot in terms of spice level. If you're used to eating spicey food, I suggest ordering everything hot.
The ambience was OK, but the restaurant is dimly lit. They have many different Indian beers in the bottle you can try that come in different sizes, with largest 650ml at $9. The staff is friendly and attentive. There is plenty of parking right in front of the restaurant. I would dine here again, but...
Read moreI don't normally write negative reviews and neither do I send back food unless I absolutely can not eat it. just want to say that the staff here is incredibly rude from what I can assume is the owner. The food is mediocre at best but the peshwari naan we got was burnt and the chicken makhni was under seasoned (the owner says it's because it's mild, I've had mild makhni at other restaurants and it was plenty flavorful) and the quality of meat was poor as in really bad. I felt sick eating it. That's not my issue though, it's the service and cleanliness. I barely ate any of it and any other restaurant would have comped the meal while this owner forced my mother to pay for the meal saying he spent money making it. My mom also walked by the kitchen and said the floor was disgusting but we thought it's difficult to clean floors and we'd give it a shot. However, I would tell anyone looking to eat here to look elsewhere. There's a reason this restaurant is empty at lunch on a weekend, and if it's not the staff and owner that are rude...
Read moreAs a connoisseur of Indian cuisine, this one was recommended by a coworker who resides in the Moorpark area. Upon arriving at the establishment, I noticed the prominent family ownership and was graciously assisted by one of the children who happened to be present. The restaurant had a strong cosmopolitan design, but decorated with images of Indian culture. The buffet had about a dozen choices available, including favourites such as chicken tikka masala and samosas. Sampling a few of the provisions, the quality was excellent and appetizing. The staff were polite and grateful to provide the service that I extended much thanks. I always leave my ratings short of perfection, for that kindly encouragement to always strive to improve. But the experience at Taste of Punjab was very pleasant and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone who is fond of Indian cuisine. Many thanks to the staff (and the child) who provided a most enjoyable visit...
