Update 11/26: For a restaurant of this scale the toilets are absolutely horrible and unclean!
I first visited this restaurant in October of 2013 my wife and I feel in love with their food. The restaurant was actually recommend nearly a year earlier by my brother-in-law who lives in Seattle.
Our absolute favorite dish here was the 'chili mustard paneer'. While sadly there is no branch of Inchin's Bamboo Garden in New Jersey, we made pit stops twice more over the next 2 years whenever we passed through my aunt's home.
The ambience is great, the quantities are good the wait can get long and they are open on Thanksgiving if you desire stepping out (like we did!). Typically expect to wait for dinner at this restaurant and sometimes the service can be a bit slow.
The spice level is generally on the milder side at this restaurant. If you're accustomed to Taco Bell's 'Fire Sauce' then you will need to go with heat over their menu to get any sort of kick. Szechwan is more fun with some burn and a dripping nose.
On this visit, my aunt warned me to temper down my mustard paneer expectations because their recipe had completely changed. I'm sad to say that there is no resemblance between the original dish and the heavily sauced, creamed, battered and fried version they serve. It is nearly a tasteless chewy shell of the original item.
What's good:
The Manchow soup is very good and flavorful - I daresay more than the Hot & Sour soup which was too mild on both sides of its flavor band.
I highly recommend the crispy chilli babycorn (as is spice level) which was a huge hit with both my kids, who were willing to sacrifice their flavor buds to the heat, devoured half of it.
The vegetable were a bit unimaginative for me and the Szechwan sauce I ordered was way too mild and closer to Manchurian gravy despite asking for spicy levels.
The lettuce wraps was tasty but I wish they served fresher lettuce and and more vegetable for this dish.
In my opinion is sweetcorn soup was betterthen most places and my kids devoured that too.
The dish I would absolutely not recommend is the chili honey eggplant. I'm not sure why it exists besides to serve the sweet tooth via also an entree. It didn't really have and resemblance of an Oriental...
Read moreHorrible customer service, and had to deal with grumpy and rude staff. We came in as a party of 6 adults and 4 kids. The staff ignored us and nobody came to check on us, so we just waited at the door for about 15 minutes, engaged in our own conversations. A smaller party came in at this time, and they were taken to be seated at a table. I then asked the waiter for an estimate for our wait time, and he told us visibly irritated that there is no table of 10, so they cannot serve us.
Which did not make sense, since it was not hard to combine tables, or sit in separate tables. There were many vacant tables. So we exited the restaurant. But since we drove all the way here for 20 minutes, we checked again if we could use two tables that were vacant. The waiter seemed to agree, so we all went back into the restaurant, and sat at the two tables indicated. One of the tables needed to be cleaned, and he asked us to get up, so we obliged, and waited while he cleaned the table. He was irritable and upset, and he chided me "I do not mean to be rude, but next time you come here, do not sit at the table until I have told you to sit". We did not realize that he did not want us to sit, and I told him that he was actually being rude, and if he wanted us not to be seated yet, he could have communicated that to us clearly in the 20 or so minutes we had been waiting there. And we got up anyway when he wanted to clean, so we were not sure what he was upset about. Then another staff came by, and he murmured something to her. She then waved us away, telling us that we have to walk back and wait by the door. It looked like they were short staffed, irritable and grumpy, and we did not feel comfortable staying there. So we left and had a wonderful dinner at C&T Wok (a mile away) instead, with smiling, friendly staff, great customer service and great food.
I can understand frustrations at being short staffed, but it was a week day, and the restaurant was not at full capacity. There is no reason to be grumpy and rude and take the frustrations on customers. And in any case, it is the responsibility of the restaurant to staff it sufficiently, so that they do not behave in...
Read moreMy husband and I are regulars & have been frequenting Bamboo Garden since 2008 and it has always been wonderful. The food is delicious, the servings are generous, prices are good & the manager is the best service industry worker we have ever witnessed. Her commitment to customer service & professionalism is obvious & it is a joy to eat there when she is serving tables. She works her fingers to the bone to take care of her customers which is why we became regulars by eating there frequently every week. I noticed the review below by this Shafqat Khan person & had to speak up because my husband & I were actually at the restaurant when he claims that this waitress chased his friends to their cars demanding a higher tip. He is completely lying. The night in question, his friends came in with a huge party of people and were so rude & obnoxious with the waitress & the rest of the staff that my husband & I almost said something to them. It’s true that he & his friends were banned but not because she was trying to get higher tips. They were banned for their despicable behavior in the restaurant and bullying the staff. We are eye witnesses to this fact & I am also reporting his review as it is false and was intentionally fabricated to further harass the waitress and restaurant in retaliation for being banned for their outrageous behavior. Don’t believe everything you read in reviews, folks! Inchin’s Bamboo Garden is a wonderful restaurant and this waitress he complained about is actually the manager and both an amazing server but also a very humble person who would never demand that anyone tip her. In fact she often tries to return the tips we leave for her saying that it’s too much, but if you’ve ever seen her work you’d know she deserves it! Don’t believe the lies by...
