We've been here multiple times; my fam considered this as the best Mexican restaurant in the Triangle, and we think it's still one of the best, but we've been noticing some issues lately.
My girl and I usually get the 3-set taco, and I ordered the Carne Asada a few times, and their fajitas. Quality of food is good overall, but the 3-set taco (Mostly all steak, or all Shrimp + Chorizo) lacked the option to mix it up. My girl usually like to have 2 steak and 1 shrimp, and there were times that the employees allowed her request, but last time, they insisted that we can only do 1 of the same kind for each set, so that doesn't seem to be consistent. Other Mexican restaurants allow to mix the kinds of tacos in a 3-set, but the lack of flexibility here is disappointing.
Secondly, the Carne Asada I tried lately is not as satisfying as I remember it to be. For a $20+ meal, the amount of meat is not enough; instead there was a piece of cactus (which didn't seem to go well with the rest of the meal). I don't remember seeing the piece of cactus in our order months ago. Initially, we thought that the cactus (sliced like meat) was part of Carne Asada, but we had to ask waiter what it was, so we initially thought there was enough "carne" but overall, while it tastes good, I just don't see the value of ordering this meal ever again.
The fajitas had no issues, but I have to point out a major problem when it comes to the value of food this restaurant offers, and that is their sauces: particularly queso cheese and guacamole. They offered 2 kinds of Guac: the regular (around $6-7) and the "Live Guac" (An employee makes it in front of you and serves it in a special bowl), which cost around $9.
When we had the Live Guac for the first time, we were not informed that it would cost $9 (we thought it would cost the same as regular Guac, so be careful, first time customers!). It's entertaining to watch the employee make Guac in front of you, but it's not worth $9 (on top of option to give employee a tip - the guac cart had a sign that reminded us that we can tip).
Neither Guac options are worth it. The regular kind is too little for the price, and the Live Guac- has more avocado used but definitely not worth $9. As for the queso (which we only ordered once - and never again) cost around $6, and again, the amount is too little for the price. We've had more satisfying amount for similar price in places like Monterrey in Durham, NC and other Mexican restaurants we've been too, but overall, not worth it.
Now, time to bring up a bad customer service experience we had in our last visit (Wednesday dinner). First of all, let me say that their customer service overall had been friendly and good in most of our visits; usually waiters ask us for what we needed, and give them to us (such as salsa verde or refill of nachos), but in our last visit, a female waitress had the worst customer service we've seen in our experience of going to restaurants.
When my girl was trying to explain that she wanted mixed tacos, the waitress didn't seem to understand what my girl was trying to say, and had to call another employee to deal with our request, which was denied. Secondly, this waitress did NOT ask what we needed, did NOT offer to refill our nachos & salsa, did NOT offer to refill our water when we've waited for a long time, did NOT get our check and takeout box when we waited again! It's as if this waitress disappeared on us or just wanted to avoid us. We were so disappointed with her customer service that it made us lose motivation to return here.
Maybe we'll try another one of their other locations. Besides, one of the other waiters told us before that the Morrisville location is their best one since it was the first one, and they have many other locations across North Carolina, which we've never been to.
Hopefully, the management will do something to fix these issues, but for now, I think we'll take the time to explore other Mexican spots we...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I have been regulars at Mi Cancun in Morrisville’s Grace Park. We’ve always had great food and service in the past—but after our most recent visit, we will not be returning.
This time, despite the restaurant being nearly empty, service was very slow. After finishing our meal, we had to wait several minutes just to get the check. I presented a valid coupon clearly stating: "Buy 1, Get 1 FREE entree of equal or lesser value from $10 with the purchase of two drinks." My boyfriend ordered a choripollo burrito ($16.99) and sweet tea ($3.99), and I had ACP with steak ($15.99) and a lemonade ($3.99).
When I gave our server (Dani) the coupon with my card (my mistake, I should’ve waited), he said he’d apply the discount. When the bill came back, it showed a $10 “misc discount,” bringing our total to $34.34. The coupon had also conveniently disappeared from the tray.
When we calmly brought up that the wrong discount had been applied (this was not a "$10 off" coupon—it was a BOGO deal), the server walked away and returned with a manager (short, stocky, bald man—didn’t catch his name). What followed was completely unacceptable. The manager raised his voice, leaned in toward our table in an aggressive and intimidating manner, and laughed at us while refusing to answer questions about the discrepancy. He dismissed our concerns and insisted the coupon only meant $10 off—despite that not being written anywhere on it.
I’ve used this same coupon at the same location before and been told it was only valid for dine-in. This was a dine-in order. So now I’ve had the same coupon misinterpreted two different ways by the same restaurant.
We felt ripped off, humiliated, and deeply disrespected—especially by the manager's aggressive tone and complete lack of professionalism. It was clear he had no intention of resolving the situation fairly.
I will be contacting corporate to file a formal complaint. I’ve never left a review like this before, but I don’t want others to experience this kind of treatment. Do...
Read moreWe go to this restaurant often, tonight was the worst time. My daughter took me to eat and had the check in one bill. Our bill was 51.42 and the waiter asked if we needed change and she told him no. He came back and threw the change on the table that the receipt was on. My daughter had other mi ey she was going to leave in the table but after the waiter was rude and threw the change back down on the table she decided she was not going to leave any more tip for how he acted. We went outside and my grandchildren wanted pictures and he came and found us and told us we forgot our change. And told him no we did not want it to keep it . He said he didn’t want it . And keep pushing the plate with the change in it. My daughter then spoke to him and Spanish telling him he she was going to go find the manager and he started to apologize. She proceeded to go inside and tell another guy that claimed to be the manager what happen and he tried to say it was because they work for tips. I understand this and we never have a problem tipping and we go frequently usually more than 20 percent but when u do something that is not nice why should I have to leave a tip when we was treated disrespectful? This was a slap in the face as a regular customer . The so called manager tried to make it right what he did because leaving change is considered disrespectful. But throwing the change down on our table was not disresptful to us or coming to find us and pushing it back to us ? And I do understand the restaurant business because I have waited many table when I was younger raising my family. Not one time would I ever have disrespected a customer by throwing the change back down. If he would have been nice he would have gotten a tip like we...
