Not a great choice for large groups. I had called twice in the two weeks prior to make a reservation for a Saturday at 4:15. They said that I could the first time I called, and he said he had me down. I then told him how many people, day and time because he never asked. I felt uneasy about it because I had a party of 15. I called again two days later to confirm I had a reservation. He had no record, but said I could make one and took my info again. I knew I wasn't going to have a reservation and just went with it. When the first of our group arrived, the staff had no reservation or notice of our group. That was fine, they arranged tables to accommodate us in the moment. The waitress seemed overwhelmed with that many people in a group. The food came out sporadically over a 20 minute span and they couldn't match person with order. And they were using different words to describe the food then the menu used so when they asked the table who ordered it, no one claimed it because they didn't know to. The checks came out a mess and took awhile to distribute. We were a large group, so I understand the struggle. We had to pay at the register, but weren't told that, so we spent an obnoxious amount of time taking up space waiting for the cards to be collected and ran. And in the end, the food was just okay. Read moreCasa Amigos is our new favorite Mexican restaurant! So many interesting options on the menu, including many dishes that were new to us even though we both hail from California, lots of great alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and five different dessert choices.
The chips at Casa Amigos are so good — warm and crunchy. The guacamole made table side was delightfully fresh, bright with lime juice, and tasty. We enjoyed it so much that we barely had enough room for our entrees.
My husband ordered the Ixtapa Fajitas, which featured generous portions of shrimp, scallops and chicken. My tamale dinner had equally generous portions. Dinners are served with both rice and beans, so no need to choose one over the other like some Mexican restaurants require.
The rice is served in the shape of an Aztec pyramid, topped with a mini Mexican flag. Other atmospheric touches include table tops decorated with ceramic tiles and intriguing portraits of Aztec warriors painted on embossed metal on the walls.
We are looking forward to returning often to work our way through Casa...
Read moreit's nice to have something new in mound, but they gotta make some improvements to food and service before we'd go back. wait staff didn't seem to know how to serve plates/hot skillets. when our waitress tried to slide a hot skillet towards me, she knocked over both my water and margartia glass, and she never came back to clean it or even offer to clean it up. we used our paper napkins to try to clean the mess. we never saw her again after dropping off our food until she brought us our check at the end of the meal. flavor profiles were just kind of "off" for a mexican place. the chicken tortilla soup obviously had a bag of frozen mixed vegetables dumped into it (when's the last time you saw brocolli or cauliflower in tortilla soup???), and the verde sauce was too sweet to notice any of the other flavors that might be happening. two things we tried to order were "unavailable".
they gotta work on improving a few things. best of...
