Living in town and really wishing I had more choices to go to for a bar ive wanted to like this place ever since it was cattails. Heres the problem with this bar. The atmosphere is alright. There are a lot of TV's (maybe too many) but its a good place to watch a game. However the TV's at the bar are above you so you have to look up and they keep the canned lights on right above the TV's so after a while you start to get a bit of a headache cause you've been staring at the ceiling lights all night. But I digress, it has a lot of TV's and the atmosphere is not bad. I would credit this place as a good place to grab a beer or two from time to time if it weren't for the prices. This place wants to be a swanky Lake Minnetonka bar/club. At least that's what I can ascertain from the prices. A tab beer is $6+. That's not outrageous but if you pair that with the fact that the food is truly bad it turns a place that I might be convinced to go into once in a while into a place that I never frequent. The food is cheap and non creative. The menu is waaaayyy too large. Any bar that has 30+ menu items is bound to fail as you cant possibly be good at making all of it. Take the beer prices down a bit and reduce the menu to 1 sheet of stuff you actually make well. Also, would recommend they step it up on the quality of the food. Reminds me of cheap meat/veggies off the U.S. Foods trucks. For good food in town hit up Carbones. If you want a cheap drink go to the Legion. If you want neither check out Surfside
update: ive returned several times since this was posted and i must say the food has improved. i think they have worked some of the kinks out with their menu and cooking. Ive had several good meals here since this last posting. Overall an enjoyable experience. Still a few things on the menu that dont turn out very good but all in all its improved a lot to the point that i would recommend this place to people. Good job Surf Side and glad you are a part of...
Read moreAfter so often hearing from friends about Surfside, & perusing their menu online, we finally gave Surfside a shot. What a wonderful experience. It was 5ish & the place was packed with Families & Baby Boomers, now we know why, the prices were more than fair, & the menu was extensive, so much so that choosing was an adventure. The Waitress was helpful & playful, which was great for unstressing us because our car broke upon entering the parking lot, & we were a little stressed...I , as a Vegetarian, chose the Beet Salad, & my Boo chose a Half Order of Ribs which came with Fries, a small loaf of Cornbread, & Coleslaw. If that's a half order, which was huge, I can't imagine how big the full order must be. The Ribs are made in a smoker out back, & my Boo said they're the best he's ever had & even comparing to Ribs he's had in both the West & South that are renowned for their Ribs. Here the best part: The Owner of Surfside likes to go table to table talking to his Patrons, insuring a positive experience is had by all. We had a conversation about how our Car broke entering the lot. Long story short, he overheard us calling an Uber, & offered us a ride home! We accepted a ride home from a friendly Proprietor who gives Customer Service a whole new spin. Needless to say, we have a new...
Read moreWe ate at Surfside this past weekend. The food was delicious and the patio is nice and away from the road. The service was OK (attention to having any napkins/utensils on the table or something to drink could be improved as we had to ask MULTIPLE people multiple times for both). That wasn't the most disappointing part though. It was that the staff allowed people to smoke on the patio sitting next to posted signs saying no smoking is allowed anywhere on the premises. People were also standing in walkways smoking so that you had to walk through them to get onto/off of the patio from the parking lot. One couple sat along the fence with a cigarette pack clearly on top of the table and constantly lit cigarettes in their hands even when the servers would stop and talk to them. There were babies on the patio across from them. I hold the restaurant staff accountable. In no way should a patron be put in the position to have to confront another patron for something so blatant, inconsiderate, and against posted restaurant policies. It really did make the whole experience less...
