Girls night out on Friday and based on one of the women attending, this was going to be a sushi night to remember.. well it was. Upon waiting for approx 45 minutes which we were Ok with that(had a glass of wine to relax), we looked over the menu and knew exactly what we all wanted when we were finally seated. Fast forward we got seated got our food, and first incident my friend(the one who recommended the place) had bugs literally coming out of her food. And yes they were alive. At first we thought maybe they were coming from the window sill which she was seated fairly close to it, but we saw no other traces or paths that might lead to this assumption. SO we immediately call over the waitress and alerted her of my friends bug situation. She looks she sees them and takes the plate away, comes back and says the owner/chef apologizes and will personally remake her food himself and remove that charge from the bill. Now mind you there are two other women who now have their food and we are both very skeptical if we should proceed. I've attached my burger (which i was salivating to eat) and by faith in God we decided to chalk it up as a fluke and continue our meal cautiously watching every bite. WELL glad i did because when i went to slice this amazing looking burger in half (just too big to pick up and bite) there was a special surprise on the plate, not the bugs that my friend had but an eyelash... Yep that's what i said. Now we have a plate with small moving bugs, and a plate with an eyelash. What would you do? Being professional women and mothers we didn't make a scene or make the waitress feel any more embarrass than she at this point already feels, so I politely say, i do not want a remake of anything I just want my bill and i want to leave. SO she leaves to let the owner/chef know that this table has yet another issue with the food and no longer wish to eat here. Now while she is gone we are making calls to other nearby restaurants because we are still hungry LOL!! which thank you Las Plamas for great food and service that night(i'll send a review their way). Waitress returns says the chef apologizes and will give us 20% off of all our bill and gave me (the food with the hair) a $25 gift certificate to come back. Now i'm not happy about this resolution that he offered because let's be honest both cases here warranted these two customers free meals period. But that's just me.. What takes the cake is the owner/ cook himself never personally came out and apologized or at least explained anything to us, or personally tell us what he's told this waitress to pass on to us. This would have made me not write this long review, but because of that here i am. Now i'm not saying this restaurant isn't good or not to eat here. I just feel in our case we had very strange and odd things that happened and should have been handled better. I think for anyone whom this would have happened to they might have created a scene, but we did not. In fact a customer behind us was raving at how she was looking forward to her food and we didn't say a word as to what just happen to us. Anyway, not sure if i'll use the certificate or not. Just wish we were handled a bit different despite the circumstances.
**UPDATE: So Because I am not a negative person, the owner Jonathan reached out to me and I decided after a great Sunday after church I would take my kids and have lunch this time at Waves. I didn't want this review to take long to update because I am a lady of second chances... That being said. as you see with the updated photos, food looked great but also i finally got to eat it without any major hiccups. (one little hiccup was I asked for no cucumbers on my burger and it came loaded with them, but my kids love them so all wasn't lost)! Of course I was skeptical at first looking at every bite that went in mine and my children's mouth, but after a while I began to simply enjoy what I originally wanted to do in the first place which was great sushi and atmosphere and That was accomplished this go around. I will be back for...
Read moreThis review is a hard one to write. Let me just first off by saying if you are looking for fun, unique fresh high-quality sushi this is about as good as it gets especially for central Florida. It was worth 1 he 40 min 1 way drive as a destination for an experience and new dishes
I write many reviews and I don’t want four stars to deter anyone from coming here for a good meal, but I will explain where the fifth star in my opinion is missing.
In fairness to the business I really did sit on this for about four days thinking about how to score this fairly.
We found out about this place from an Instagram post that went viral and finding out that it was an hour and 40 minutes from us and we have never been to the area. We’ve decided to centralize a trip around this food experience and it did not disappoint.
My wife had the sushi hotdog, and I had the supreme wrap as I saw in the Instagram video as the “most expensive item on the menu “at $45 and it was worth every penny
The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was fresh. We left satisfied and with leftovers.
The food is well worth the money and it’s not even expensive. In some cases I would say it’s even under priced.
But with the representation of food online the presentation of the food, the freshness of the food, and all that came with it, I felt supremely underwhelmed when I walked into , the restaurant it felt weird eating a sushi dish that probably cost more than the chair I was sitting on.
That’s not to say I don’t enjoy a casual meal in a casual setting however, it just didn’t seem to fit the interior with what could’ve been an overall five-star, dining experience.
And of course I like to grade on a scale because places like McDonald’s although they may earn five stars it’s five stars up McDonald’s and when you look at this place, you look at the menu you look at the reputation you look at the Instagram and you look at the signage out front and you walk in you just feel underwhelmed or maybe like you made a wrong decision
I wouldn’t categorize the interior or the decor, as a place that I would want to bring somebody on the first or second dates to leave a lasting impression on them. Unless of course they were a sushi aficionado, and they could appreciate the food more than they could the atmosphere that being said we will 100% be returning, and we will be recommending this to everyone we know who likes Sushi without a shadow of a doubt one of the best sushi dishes I’ve ever had and more interesting creations that we didn’t get to try and we want to try.
I should mention our price “per person” was with 2 of the most expensive meals on the menus plus one for our kids...
Read moreThe waitress that we had tonight was one of the rudest, no personality, with a big attitude. First we had to wait because we had were a table of 7. They set up the table and it took 10 minutes to get to put in a drink and appetizers order ok not so bad but there was 7 of us she didn’t not bring out napkins for our drinks, she only brought out 4 dipping bowls. Then it is the waiting game. I noticed there was only regular soy so I asked the waitress if they had low sodium and they said yes she would bring it right out. On my ticket we had 4 people we order the krab Rangoon mozzarella sticks, pork dumplings, and egg roll. We waiting almost an half hour 40 minutes to get them when they first came out only 2 of the 3 came but 2 others from our table ordered appetizers 15 minutes after ours and they got theirs before our egg rolls. We waiting another 10/15 then asked the waitress the first time she said it would be right out. She did not ask us how we were or If we needed anything she just left. I looked around and said she didn’t bring out my low sodium soy. We waited for her to come back she never did. Finally my daughter went up to get some for me and ask about our egg rolls. Low sodium finally came out no egg rolls waitress came we asked for the egg rolls again, she went around the corner and put it in she forgot to order it if she would have just told us that then we would have told them to forget it. We waited again and then my daughter said were is out waitress we could not find her, I went and asked for a manager told her the sum of it forgetting things not checking in on us and being rude oh ya they also made a drink they were not suppose to and were all trying it my daughter went up and asked them and they said it’s not on the menu sorry and laughed. BY THE WAY THE WATER IS GROSS. We got our food 3 meals were wrong mine was cold and no sauce, mother in laws had no veggies at all and my daughter a had hair fried in the orange chicken . The manager helped and gave 20% off the bill but I do feel the meals that were messed up should have been removed from the bill and although the manager was semi nice I almost feel like it was a front we were not yelling didn’t raise our voice at all laughed about it. It was a bad experience. Food is plain taste not seasoning, sushi hot dog really hot, the best thing we had was the Krab Rangoon mozzarella sticks. The 1 point was for that and the manager. Bad parking bad location no waiting area. Will not be going back not worth the almost $200 meal that we all paid tonight with...
