Girls night out on Friday and based on one of the women attending, this was going to be a sushi night to remember.. well it was. Upon waiting for approx 45 minutes which we were Ok with that(had a glass of wine to relax), we looked over the menu and knew exactly what we all wanted when we were finally seated. Fast forward we got seated got our food, and first incident my friend(the one who recommended the place) had bugs literally coming out of her food. And yes they were alive. At first we thought maybe they were coming from the window sill which she was seated fairly close to it, but we saw no other traces or paths that might lead to this assumption. SO we immediately call over the waitress and alerted her of my friends bug situation. She looks she sees them and takes the plate away, comes back and says the owner/chef apologizes and will personally remake her food himself and remove that charge from the bill. Now mind you there are two other women who now have their food and we are both very skeptical if we should proceed. I've attached my burger (which i was salivating to eat) and by faith in God we decided to chalk it up as a fluke and continue our meal cautiously watching every bite. WELL glad i did because when i went to slice this amazing looking burger in half (just too big to pick up and bite) there was a special surprise on the plate, not the bugs that my friend had but an eyelash... Yep that's what i said. Now we have a plate with small moving bugs, and a plate with an eyelash. What would you do? Being professional women and mothers we didn't make a scene or make the waitress feel any more embarrass than she at this point already feels, so I politely say, i do not want a remake of anything I just want my bill and i want to leave. SO she leaves to let the owner/chef know that this table has yet another issue with the food and no longer wish to eat here. Now while she is gone we are making calls to other nearby restaurants because we are still hungry LOL!! which thank you Las Plamas for great food and service that night(i'll send a review their way). Waitress returns says the chef apologizes and will give us 20% off of all our bill and gave me (the food with the hair) a $25 gift certificate to come back. Now i'm not happy about this resolution that he offered because let's be honest both cases here warranted these two customers free meals period. But that's just me.. What takes the cake is the owner/ cook himself never personally came out and apologized or at least explained anything to us, or personally tell us what he's told this waitress to pass on to us. This would have made me not write this long review, but because of that here i am. Now i'm not saying this restaurant isn't good or not to eat here. I just feel in our case we had very strange and odd things that happened and should have been handled better. I think for anyone whom this would have happened to they might have created a scene, but we did not. In fact a customer behind us was raving at how she was looking forward to her food and we didn't say a word as to what just happen to us. Anyway, not sure if i'll use the certificate or not. Just wish we were handled a bit different despite the circumstances. ******UPDATE: So Because I am not a negative person, the owner Jonathan reached out to me and I decided after a great Sunday after church I would take my kids and have lunch this time at Waves. I didn't want this review to take long to update because I am a lady of second chances... That being said. as you see with the updated photos, food looked great but also i finally got to eat it without any major hiccups. (one little hiccup was I asked for no cucumbers on my burger and it came loaded with them, but my kids love them so all wasn't lost)! Of course I was skeptical at first looking at every bite that went in mine and my children's mouth, but after a while I began to simply enjoy what I originally wanted to do in the first place which was great sushi and atmosphere and That was accomplished this go around. I will be back for sure! Thank you!

This review is a hard one to write. Let me just first off by saying if you are looking for fun, unique fresh high-quality sushi this is about as good as it gets especially for central Florida. It was worth 1 he 40 min 1 way drive as a destination for an experience and new dishes I write many reviews and I don’t want four stars to deter anyone from coming here for a good meal, but I will explain where the fifth star in my opinion is missing. In fairness to the business I really did sit on this for about four days thinking about how to score this fairly. We found out about this place from an Instagram post that went viral and finding out that it was an hour and 40 minutes from us and we have never been to the area. We’ve decided to centralize a trip around this food experience and it did not disappoint. My wife had the sushi hotdog, and I had the supreme wrap as I saw in the Instagram video as the “most expensive item on the menu “at $45 and it was worth every penny The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was fresh. We left satisfied and with leftovers. The food is well worth the money and it’s not even expensive. In some cases I would say it’s even under priced. But with the representation of food online the presentation of the food, the freshness of the food, and all that came with it, I felt supremely underwhelmed when I walked into , the restaurant it felt weird eating a sushi dish that probably cost more than the chair I was sitting on. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy a casual meal in a casual setting however, it just didn’t seem to fit the interior with what could’ve been an overall five-star, dining experience. And of course I like to grade on a scale because places like McDonald’s although they may earn five stars it’s five stars up McDonald’s and when you look at this place, you look at the menu you look at the reputation you look at the Instagram and you look at the signage out front and you walk in you just feel underwhelmed or maybe like you made a wrong decision I wouldn’t categorize the interior or the decor, as a place that I would want to bring somebody on the first or second dates to leave a lasting impression on them. Unless of course they were a sushi aficionado, and they could appreciate the food more than they could the atmosphere that being said we will 100% be returning, and we will be recommending this to everyone we know who likes Sushi without a shadow of a doubt one of the best sushi dishes I’ve ever had and more interesting creations that we didn’t get to try and we want to try. I should mention our price “per person” was with 2 of the most expensive meals on the menus plus one for our kids and 2 drinks

The waitress that we had tonight was one of the rudest, no personality, with a big attitude. First we had to wait because we had were a table of 7. They set up the table and it took 10 minutes to get to put in a drink and appetizers order ok not so bad but there was 7 of us she didn’t not bring out napkins for our drinks, she only brought out 4 dipping bowls. Then it is the waiting game. I noticed there was only regular soy so I asked the waitress if they had low sodium and they said yes she would bring it right out. On my ticket we had 4 people we order the krab Rangoon mozzarella sticks, pork dumplings, and egg roll. We waiting almost an half hour 40 minutes to get them when they first came out only 2 of the 3 came but 2 others from our table ordered appetizers 15 minutes after ours and they got theirs before our egg rolls. We waiting another 10/15 then asked the waitress the first time she said it would be right out. She did not ask us how we were or If we needed anything she just left. I looked around and said she didn’t bring out my low sodium soy. We waited for her to come back she never did. Finally my daughter went up to get some for me and ask about our egg rolls. Low sodium finally came out no egg rolls waitress came we asked for the egg rolls again, she went around the corner and put it in she forgot to order it if she would have just told us that then we would have told them to forget it. We waited again and then my daughter said were is out waitress we could not find her, I went and asked for a manager told her the sum of it forgetting things not checking in on us and being rude oh ya they also made a drink they were not suppose to and were all trying it my daughter went up and asked them and they said it’s not on the menu sorry and laughed. BY THE WAY THE WATER IS GROSS. We got our food 3 meals were wrong mine was cold and no sauce, mother in laws had no veggies at all and my daughter a had hair fried in the orange chicken . The manager helped and gave 20% off the bill but I do feel the meals that were messed up should have been removed from the bill and although the manager was semi nice I almost feel like it was a front we were not yelling didn’t raise our voice at all laughed about it. It was a bad experience. Food is plain taste not seasoning, sushi hot dog really hot, the best thing we had was the Krab Rangoon mozzarella sticks. The 1 point was for that and the manager. Bad parking bad location no waiting area. Will not be going back not worth the almost $200 meal that we all paid tonight with the discount.

WAVE IS NOT WHAT YOU EXPECT! Note to everyone reading reviews: this place is more about the presentation, not the taste. If you like sushi, you’ll be disappointed coming here. I found this place years ago from their Instagram and it looked amazing. I mean, who wouldn’t love a sushi burrito, sushi Crunchwrap or a sushi burger with a hot Cheetos bun?! Unfortunately…I have been here several times over the past couple of years and every time I leave very disappointed. I want to love this place so much because I am a massive foodie, but this place tries too hard for the photo and forgets the most important things: taste and quality of food. This most recent time, we had ridiculously slow service. On a Wednesday night, it took nearly 2 hours from walking in to leaving - 20+ minutes just waiting for them to bring the bill to our table! But moving on to the food, I’ve tried everything from multiple types of sushi burgers (both with regular rice bun and the hot Cheetos fried bun), several different appetizers, sushi hot dog, sushi burrito, multiple different rolls, and sushi tacos, and every single time the food tastes bland and disappointing. For instance, the hot Cheetos has absolutely no flavor at all - there is no point ordering it because it doesn’t add anything to their food. Every roll is very basic, NOT the types of rolls you’d expect from a place with 200k+ followers on Instagram, and there are other sushi restaurants within 5 minutes walk of WAVE that have better-tasting, higher-quality sushi. Much of the time the fish tastes old, the tap water is the worst-tasting city water I’ve ever had, and everything just tastes very low-quality. It doesn’t matter if you get a burger, a roll, or a taco - it all just tastes the same (and not very good). So please, I understand they have a big following on Instagram, but that does NOT mean anything - the food is not up to par and it is certainly not worth going to! Save your money, save your time, and visit literally any other of the dozens of sushi restaurants scattered across Mount Dora, Winter Garden, Clermont, and Orlando, because virtually everywhere else will have you leaving more satisfied than WAVE!

I know it's odd to say, but the atmosphere inside does not match their social media presence or the cool funky vibe of their food. You gotta start somewhere though so it didn't bother me too much. Food was pretty good and tasty although a lot of rice for the burger creation which made it difficult to eat, but the flavor was good and the tuna tasted very fresh. I would have given 5 stars but the service wasn't great. I think our waitress was overwhelmed because we weren't checked on alot, it was busy so I understand and she was very sweet when serving us, but we had been left alone for a long while and had nearly finished, I was a little over half way through my sushi burger and just really wanted some extra sauce because with the amount of rice it was just getting difficult to eat without some extra moisture. We waited a really long while and no one checked on us and everyone in our side of the room would make a b-line to the table they were helping and then turn around and leave so it was hard getting anyone's attention at all without being rude so I just waited. Finally a server/hostess walked right next to our table to help someone behind us, I just wanted sauce so I tried to flag her down. We made eye contact and I smiled and raised my hand, she started her eyes away....walked to the side of our table and locked eyes again, to which again I smiled and raised my hand she quickly darted her eyes away again and walked right by us. She was so close she brushed by chair but ignored me and it seemed purposeful. I would have even been happy with a "sorry your not my table I can't assist" but this was just odd and rude. Had waited so long and then that...so my appetite was just over at that point. Waited another 5-8 minutes for our server after that to get our checks. Not our servers fault...and maybe just an off day...but it sucks a little when the experience doesn't match the food craft. I'd still try them again and would say we did enjoy our food, and the bao buns were also very tasty. Just bummed that the customer service was a bit of a let down.

Very disappointed with my visit today… I drove all the way from orlando just to go there and try this new way to eat sushi… and I check before for reservations but they did not take any reservations and on yelp the info that they have is that they are first come first serve basis… that’s why I went there and I saw several outdoor tables empty and we just took one for my family.. then one of the ladies came and took our drinks order… But my surprise was that after 10min a different lady came to my table asking me if I was on the waiting list because they have waiting list to be able to be seated on a table and that my family need to get up from the table and wait an average of 40-45 min… even after they start taking my order and even that I can see that they had around 5 outdoor tables empty and 2 inside… She told me that she was going to call the manager and see what they can do.. but I don’t know where they Learn how to manage this kind of situation or how to treat a client.. but you never should tell to a customer that start their order with one of her server and she did not mention nothing about waiting list.. that they need to get up from the table with his family… Sorry but you sushi looks great on pictures and I was excited to try this way to eat sushi.. but with this kind of attention I will pass… UPDATED:: 12/29/22 I’m gonna start saying that if you are not willing to give people a second chance and try to see everything from different points of view… you gonna have a lot of hard feeling that are gonna affect you more than anyone else!! Now.. today I have the absolutely and amazing opportunity to finally taste this different and delicious way to eat sushi!! And it was just like I thought… presentation on fire 🔥🔥🔥 taste and freshness was perfect!! 🤤🤤 and the service of today was absolutely amazing!! They made me feel like every client must feel!!! WELCOME!! Thanks WAVE team!! And see you soon !! You can count on that!! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
