Loved the food and the island attitude - my son and I felt like family from the moment we came through the door! This was our first visit and the moment we walked in the savory smell of Jamaican spices hit my nose and made me believe we were in for a treat! We were immediately greeted by a wonderful lady who I later came to believe was Deb's grandmother. She welcomed us in, showed us the menu and called Deb to the counter to take our order. It's mostly a take-out restaurant, especially in this time of COVID-19, but there are a few tables and we were offered the option of eating there. The restaurant was spotless and we had a come a good distance in search of curry goat (my son's favorite) so we opted to dine there. Even though they were closing in less than an hour and I couldn't make up my mind they never made me feel rushed! I finally went with jerk chicken. Why not? We both ordered entrees that came with white rice or rice and peas (we opted for the latter, of course) and cabbage. Everything was delicious and had just the right level of heat. A pleasant tingle on the lips as we walked out but not enough spice to burn, or worse, cover up the flavor of perfectly prepared recipes that I assume were passed down through generations. The portions were more than generous! My son ordered a beef patty with his meal and was too full to eat it. (I predict it'll be a midnight snack.) Our orders came out quickly but there was so much food we were still eating when closing time came and went...but not only were we encouraged to relax and enjoy our food the ladies went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and to ask us about our experience and if we liked their food. We will be back again and again! I'm having oxtail next time I go, and maybe a piece of rum cake if I can...
Read moreThe best vegetable patty I have eaten. Not so good on cuatomer service though. I was passing through town while test driving a car an saw this place. Once I was done I googled the place to checked out the menu. It was probably the only place I would be able to get a vegetarian meal while on the road. As I walked in there were four people in the restaurant (two guys sitting in the eating area and two ladies in the back). As I walked to the counter noone said hello, welcome or anything. I waited until someone came from the back and finally asked what did I want. I ordered two vegetable patties (I wasn't staying and the only thing I could eat while driving). It took the lady that was helping forever to find the vegetable patties. Finally she found two and put it in the bag and handed it to me then I handed her a $20 bill. She looked at me like I handed her a snot rag and said "I am the chef" and walked away 🤔. What does that have to do with taking my money and giving me my change so I can leave? Not to mention why did it take you forever to identify the vegetable patty? Or better yet why did you come up here if this is beneath you? Finally the other lady came and took my money and gave mw my change. As I left still noone said anyting. I doubt I will ever be back in that area otherwise Im.not aire I...
Read moreThis is our go-to place for Jamaican food. I really don't understand the negative reviews. The wings are amazing. If you think you're getting fried, buffalo-style wings-- so some place else. Jerk wings aren't like that. They melt in your mouth, slow-cooking that is just the best. The beef patties (and chicken, and veg, and any patty really) are tender, flaky, and bring me back to my college days (when I lived off similar patties from a different place-- but these are a thousand times better). While the service isn't "fast"-- it's not meant to be. It's not fast food, but it's quick enough to order & eat during a standard lunch break-- and friendly, too. And we've ordered in & ordered take-out-- the service is always consistent.
July Update: since the last review, we tried the curried goat. OMG It is my new favorite thing on the menu. As I said before-- everything we've ordered is...
