Haldi is quite a great addition to the South Jersey dining scene. They restaurant feels upscale but not stuffy, focused on serving distinguished food with a flair in presentation.
I appreciate they do not follow the template of a traditional Indian restaurant... their deep menu offers dishes from different regions of India as well as Indo-China influences.
A great example of this was the Puri Puri "water balls" appetizer, which essentially comprises of a flaky sphere that you fill with potato, chutney, and a "spicy water" (a spiced green chutney it seemed). The 6-8 water balls were served atop thin "shot" glasses for the water. It was quite artful, something I'm not used to seeing in an Indian restaurant.
We ordered: Puri Puri (see above) Sev Puri Palak Paneer (spinach) Chicken Tikka Masala Malai Methi Murgh (Creamy Fenugreek Chicken) Kolhapuri Ghosh (Goat) Garlic and Plain Naan
All can be prepared to mild, medium, or spicy preference. Each dish was rich, carefully prepared, and a unique take even on the more familiar dishes. The Malai Methi Murgh was a standout, as both unique and exceptionally flavorful. The Kolhapuri was interesting, but a bit heavily spiced (flavor, not spicy level) that I would not personally order again... but that may just be a taste preference.
Diners should note that dishes come with very small bowls of rice, so you should expect to ask for more.
The service was solid, nothing to write home about, just staff who try to keep diners happy but be mostly out of their way.
Ultimately, the menu was dynamic and deep. Dishes were rich and distinctive. We will certainly be back and can't wait...
Read moreI am a frequent diner at Haldi Fine Indian Cuisine. It is convenient located in Mount Laurel, and 10 minutes from work in the Mount Holly area. Haldi Fine Indian Cuisine took over the former Monsoon Indian Restaurant in the Cambridge Crossing shopping center at Dearborn Circle. I did not think I would find a replacement for Monsoon in the area, and usually resolved myself to driving to University City in Philadelphia, but Haldi has done a fantastic job exceeding my expectations. Though far from an expert, I have been a lover of Indian cuisine, and Haldi has satisfied my palette every single time. I come in at least once a month for their weekday lunch buffet, reasonably priced at around $18 - $19 per person. They usually provide two or three types of basmati rice (white, chicken, or veggie) along with other typical Indian dishes, such as chicken masala, chicken tandoori, or goat curry (sorry, I do not recall the exact name of the dish). When dinning with friends and/or family, we go ala cart, ordering butter chicken, chicken biryani, among others to say the least (I do not recall what else was specifically ordered, since I am usually not the one ordering, just eating). Regardless, you cannot go wrong with any dish that you select. I am always very satisfied with the food, and service is exceptional, attentive to your needs, providing naan and drink refills, clearing the table so you can pile on additional dishes from trips to the buffet. I have no complaints, only high praise for the food, for the staff, and for...
Read moreThe new restaurant boasts attractive interiors and decor. However, the food quality varies depending on the dish ordered. We started with two drinks: the aam panna was decent, while the mango drink was very good. We opted for à la carte instead of the vegetarian thali due to unusual options like tindora fry for an appetizer.
We ordered three appetizers: the dahi kebab was excellent, the paneer cashew roll lacked sufficient paneer and cashew and seemed to have more potatoes, but it still tasted good. The palak chaat was disappointing, and we returned it. The server graciously removed it from our bill.
For the main course, we had aloo paratha, which was a bit salty, and onion kulcha, which was good. The paneer makhani curry was decent, and the biryani was good. For dessert, we tried the malpua rabdi, but the malpua was too thick, and the rabdi was too runny.
Overall, the food was okay, but the service needs improvement. We had to repeatedly seek the server's attention for water, and there was only one server for all the tables. It might be because they are still setting up. Overall, it’s decent food with room for improvement in service...
