Place just opened in the last few weeks; I heard a lot of goods things about the food and decided to give it try. So on Tuesday (7/11/23) I stopped by and sat at the bar. I was helped by a gentleman, who was pleasant. I asked for a food and beer menu; that is when a bartender named Beth made a snarky comment and said just look up. Not trying be a knit picker , but I am kinda of a micro beer enthusiast; I used the “Untapped” to rate and find new beers I haven’t tried. Specifically I look for beers that are rated 4.0 and above. Once I got my beer menu, I noticed that every beer on the menu was average at best; you would think for a place that had “tap house” in the name , they would have better than average beers. The only beers they had, were highly commercial or from big beer distributors that lose in quality. I usually judge a place by their tap list and this place is definitely at the bottom of my list.
So I ordered a beer and the Cubano sandwich and truffle fries.
I chose Kane Head High IPA ; very average IPA; not bad but not impressive. I’ve had it before , but Like I said the beer selection is very limited in quality.
Moving on, the food came out pretty fast , and it was good. Definitely I can say they got that right. But with said , it’s all bar food in end.
After getting about half way through my meal; I finished my beer. Not once did Beth check on me to see if I needed a new beer or water. So I finished eating ; and a bar tender from the other side of the bar noticed that Beth was just talking to the other bartender and not paying any attention.
This other bartender asked if I wanted another beer ; at this point I was frustrated and asked for the check.
I left Tommy’s Tap House and went somewhere else with better service and better beer list.
Food was good, service sucked, beer list can use some attention.Beth should not be a bartender anywhere, much less a busy place .
Also I was 1 of 4 people seated at the bar , so it wasn’t busy.
The manager should pay attention to the untapped app; this area has some of the top 10 breweries on the east coast , which other bar and restaurants seem to have on their menu.
Definitely not on my list...
Read moreI’m leaving this review mostly so they maybe can fix this issue because we really want to see this place succeed because the menu looks promising and it would be nice to have a good option close to home. And I write this knowing it’s new and needs to work out the kinks. The service was just not good though. Our food was delivered to wrong tables all evening. People kept coming to our table with food and drinks that weren’t ours. The back waiter frustratedly said within earshot of us “she needs to stop swapping the tables” so I think someone wasn’t inputting orders to the right tables maybe? The table behind us got our appetizer (nachos) and even though it was not what they ordered they ate them anyway and our waitress didn’t notice it until we brought it to her attention 45 minutes later when she circled back. My husband couldn’t get a refill on his soda in a timely manner to the point where he finished his meal by the time he got one. The nachos when they did come out were wrong and had no toppings on them except cheese and olives. We were told by the manager that we got another tables order and they had ours. Thankfully they did comp us the nachos given the mix up and the long wait time. His meal (BBQ pork Mac n cheese) was very good! Sadly, my bulgogi tacos were flavorless and just not good. The menu says Korean short rib? But what comes out is basically unseasoned, no sauce like traditional bulgogi, cut steak on pickled onions and like a hot sauce of some kind. The kimchi fried rice had zero flavor and large chunks of egg just sat on top. The half priced sangria was also not good. It just tasted like iced watered-down wine which is usually not the case for a white sangria which is sweeter. I felt bad for our waitress she seemed flustered and I get being new. So hopefully maybe we can try again in a month or so and things will be different…. Tough to swallow a $50 bill (would have been $77 with the nachos) when the experience is...
Read moreI've heard many good things about this place but my first visit was just okay. I started with the French onion soup which came with some fried/frizzled on top. It's not something I had seen before and it added a pleasant textural twist on a classic. I had the Cherry coke ribs for the entree and they were very sweet. I'm someone that likes sweet things but these were a bit much. The ribs themselves were under seasoned, and could have used something with a little kick to offset the candy sweetness of the sauce. The accompanying cole slaw was very heavy on the mayo, so something with some acid would have lightened it up and done more to cleanse the palate between bites of the sweet ribs.
Service seems to be a focus here. There were tons of staff running around, and a manager came by the table to check on the meal which is always a nice touch. That said, there is room for improvement. The staff had their individual jobs, and they only did their assigned job. Water was not refilled in a timely manner. The big issue was that dirty dishes were never cleared from the table. When the runner brought the entrees, soup and salad dishes that were clearly finished were left at the table. The waitress and manager stopped by and also ignored the dishes. There were plenty of free hands that came by and not a single dish was picked up. The server dropped the check before I finished eating the ribs. She came by several times to see if I had gotten out my card for payment, but as I was still eating and my hands were covered in sticky sauce, I wasn't able to do so which seemed to annoy her. I worked in restaurants for years, and I was not camping at the table for an inordinate amount of time. It was also not preventing her from another table as there were tables open, and it was not close to closing time. I paid the bill and left with every dirty dish and utensil still...
