Coastal Crust was the worst decision we made for our wedding. While their food is good, their customer service and follow through on contracted items is non-existent. We had specific requests (written into our contract) to make the day truly "ours". Brian never took care of any of them and months before the wedding our planner began asking about the status with little to no response and promises that were broken regularly. While we negotiated a rate due to the fact that we were providing a few items when the contract was originally procured, Brian continued to fight us when he couldn't provide what he promised which required us to provide even more (at retail) just 2 months before the wedding. We came close to firing him at this time and he renegotiated another rate during a meeting when he was asking us to rethink our position. Reluctantly we stuck with him, giving him the benefit of the doubt...big mistake. He took notes (again) and still didn't complete our wine tasting as requested (wine types were not correct again), not to mention he was late and we tasted wines while batting away a barrage of fruit flies in his location. He continued to falter on his promises and 10 days before the wedding we were told he raised the rates and we were basically told we could pay them or find someone else. In addition, 3 days before the wedding we found out that one of the specified beers he was supposed to be providing was not secured and we had to select something else, again, something we ended up procuring and supplying ourselves at retail. Now on to our wedding day, Brian and his team did show up (yes, sadly this was a concern of ours at this point). The guests enjoyed the appetizer that was provided and while we had specifically requested service for the bride and groom while we took photos during cocktail hour we only received a beer from one of our groomsmen when we asked for it. Dinner service starts and we (the bride and groom) are standing in a line of about 20 people and Coastal Crust ignored the fact (trust me, I wasn't hard to miss in my large dress)...our wedding planner ended up getting our food and serving us herself. Later we found out that Brian did not secure the one local craft beer he was supposed to and did not provide the domestic beer options requested for our two picky guests that were in the wedding party. In addition, he continued to charge us for a second appetizer that I realized was never provided after quizzing my guests days after the wedding. Brian would not provide a new invoice removing the items that he did not provide and wanted us to pay in full; to which we refused. We offered what we felt was a fair amount given the circumstances, lack of service / product, and the amount of stress he caused. During these emails after our wedding, Brian was everything but professional or polite and in his own roundabout way called us names and accused us of basically stealing from him (because we weren't willing to pay for things he didn't provide). At one point he even told us we were the worst decision he had made - believe me, we felt the same but never said this to him and remained professional and were willing to go to court over his actions during the course of our wedding. Hiring Coastal Crust still leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I barely even ate his food and only drank the beer/wine that we provided ourselves. If you want a vendor that you must babysit and still get things wrong, Coastal Crust...
Read moreKiddie-land We foolishly planned a date night at Coastal to dine outside and enjoy the gorgeous weather last night. I've had good lunches at Vintage Coffee (out front) and assumed it was the same proprietors. 5 stars for the very cool outdoor setting, reclaimed wood, trendy lighting and varied seating arrangements - but sadly EVERYTHING else fell short. The entire place was filled with running, screaming, shouting, water-throwing children, seemingly unsupervised by parents and definitely not by any Coastal staff. A metal side table was being carried around like a drum by the children banging on it. It was impossible to have a conversation or enjoy our drinks. We sat by the drinking water "station" and watched numerous children wiping their hands directly on the tap as they used it to "wash" their hands. A sweet tiny toddler was fascinated by the spigot and spend 20 minutes wiping her hands on the faucet part of it, and filling up cups of water. I was genuinely concerned for her safety, as 1/2 hour went by with no adult in sight. A few women finally came by looking for the child and said something about "it takes a village"... I didn't really mind that our pizza took almost an hour, but when they had a "keg issue", and all the blasé staff could say was, "the owner is on his way now..." that was too much. So, nothing to drink while we waited and endured the cacophony of the kiddie circus. When our pizza finally arrived, it was bland, under-seasoned, and the haphazardly scattered toppings were scarce. (Meatball & ricotta). The crust was tasteless and didn't have the signature black burn marks your come to expect from quality pizza. Our Caesar salad was just as disappointing, other than the parmesan cheese shavings which seemed to be very good quality. The young ladies who ran the food DID work very hard, and I could see the frustration on their faces when dealing with complaints and all the "where is my food?" questions. Having a designated play area is a great idea, but allowing children to race around rampant over the entire property - unsupervised- is...
Read moreWe booked Coastal Crust Pizza Truck for our Wedding on Sept 9, 2018. Our wedding was being held at the Pelican Watch Pavilion on Folly Beach, SC. We knew we didn't want a fancy dinner or set-up for our low key event and after a good google search I found Coastal Crust. We live in Madison, WI so planning a "destination" wedding comes with challenges; as in unable to taste the food before the wedding. After reading a ton of reviews on Coastal Crust I was sold. I emailed back and forth with Erin (who answered my 1,000 emails & questions quickly), and we finally decided on a menu and custom drink menu.
A couple days before the wedding I received an email from Erin stating that their beer tap lines were not functioning properly, but not to worry as they had us covered with plenty of canned beer instead (which most of my guests preferred anyways). As we arrived to the pavilion for pictures, their catering team was already there, setting up and getting the stove ready to start cooking. I worked closely with Erin on the timing of appetizers, pizzas, and dessert, and I couldn't have asked for it go go better. The staff on hand was friendly, approachable, and answered any questions my guests had on the different flavors being cooked.
Now, onto the food! It was A-MA-ZING! I consider myself to be a good judge of pizza, but it was honestly perfect! Our guests raved about the appetizers (pimento cheese & crackers; focaccia breads) so much I didn't know if they saved room for the actual salad & pizza! We had beer (canned), wine (red & white), and specialty Vodka/Lemonade. For dessert, we opted out of a cake, and instead had Coastal Crust cook us s'mores, which was a real treat for the guests.
At the end of the evening, they gave us about 20 pizza's to-go and a couple leftover bottles of wine that were already opened.
My review may have been a bit wordy, but I wanted to give them the credit they deserve! Check out their brick & mortar restaurant in Mt Pleasant, I certainly will next time I'm in the...
