Last night the wife and I were out and about doing some shopping. Decided we wanted gyros for dinner. This place is very close to home and we'd never been there, so we gave it a shot. It was around 8:30 or so. There were a couple of people in the dining room, which, at a quick glance, looked clean. Two employees were working, one in front, one in back. The guy at the register was quiet and kinda seemed like he was new or something. We got a gyros plate and cheese fries to split, and a couple of pieces of baklava . Food came out in an appropriate amount of time and the guy showed us what it was, to double it was right. I thought that was kinda nice. We got home and unpacked the food. The cheese sauce was in standard portions cups, but it was ice cold. Not sure if that's how they always do to go orders but it seemed odd. Not really a big deal, we have a microwave. Then we started eating. The best description I can give is...... Salt. That's all I could taste. The fries were really crispy and probably would have been good. The gyro meat was a bit overcooked and lots of little pieces, like it was the last of the day's prep, and again, way over salted. Even the cheese sauce, which probably came from a can, was somehow too salty. The baklava was weird. I will say, I don't think I've ever had it before, so I don't have anything to compare it to. Very flaky, which I believe is how it's supposed to be, but when I bit into it, it oozed grease. I don't believe in condemning a place based on one visit. Things happen. I will probably give them another chance and maybe do so at a better time of day. Overall though, I was not...
Read moreI'm extremely disappointed with the order I received today. We frequent this place regularly and have never had an issue until now. I ordered a spicy falafel wrap with pickles, but what I got was a wrap filled with mostly lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes, with maybe four falafels in a foot-long wrap. It was essentially just a garden salad wrapped up. The spicy sauce was way too much, dripping everywhere and making the wrap soggy and falling apart. I ended up just removing what I had in falafels, eating them on their own, and tossing the rest of the wrap—it was such a waste of money. To make matters worse, the falafels were rock hard on the outside and incredibly dry and crunchy on the inside. I'm not sure if there's a new cook or what, but I've never had an issue with any of my orders until now. It’s incredibly frustrating when I paid $15 in just tax, tip, and service fees for food that’s just not up to par. My daughter’s gyro was also disappointing—there was barely any meat in it, which is strange because it’s usually stacked high. This time, it had half, if not less, of what we usually get. Overall, we’re just really disheartened, especially since we visit frequently for both lunch and dinner a couple times a week and typically love this place. It shouldn't be so night and day dining in...
Read moreMy husband and I love the food here. We even drive up from the south side of Kenosha for it. The owner is wonderful and takes care of his customers. However, we have had a number of issues when the owner is not there and we have ordered food. On our most recent trip, we ordered ahead, paid, and then were informed that our orders would be unable to be completed as planned - they only had enough rice (more than an hour before closing time) for one dish, and realized on our drive home that we had not been given our drink. The employees were polite and offered substitues, but this is not the first time there has been an issue. Once they were out of beef. Another time, we were given a wrong order. It's hard to warrant a 25 minute drive (especially after ordering ahead) to arrive and not be able to receive what we had been looking forward to eating. We'd still recommend Gyros Express, especially if you're local and can go earlier in the day (when the owner seems to be there...
