My wife and I were talking about going out to breakfast after Mass this morning and she mentioned Ziri's Cafe in Racine. We had a little difficulty finding it because it's so new that they don't have a sign on the building yet. Their only signage is their name painted on the door. They are located at 5201 Washington Avenue, two doors down from Vasa Fitness. We were greeted very warmly and immediately seated. We both ordered Ziri's Mega Skillet with the included pancake side. To our surprise, we were served enough food to feed four people, or so it seemed. The skillets were exceptionally delicious as were the pancakes. The coffee was excellent and the service extraordinary. I can't recall ever being visited by a waitress so many times to see if we needed anything else. We experienced the sense that they were actually happy that we were there and that they would do whatever needed to be done to take care of us. Very rare to find this in the service industry today. This little gem of a restaurant is something that you do not want to miss. It’s a must for your places to go list. Having operated a family business for more than 30 years, we truly see and understand the difficulties as well as rewards of operating such an endeavor. We had the opportunity to speak to an owner at length and saw so much of ourselves in her. This diamond in the rough of a sea of restaurants that are available, will do well if they continue as they’re doing right now. We truly wish them the best in the future. Meli’s Cafe, another favorite of ours, definitely has some new stiff competition to deal with. We...
Read moreWe stopped here Saturday morning for breakfast. We were seated right away. No one came to ask if he wanted coffee and he likes it right away. He was just about to walk over to the bar to ask when someone came up. Must be a new place. The inside has a bar and TVs everywhere so must have been a bar and just opened as a restaurant. That's ok with me if the food is good. And the food was good. My husband ordered a country fried steak skillet with poached eggs and I ordered the huevos rancheros. His skillet was huge, hot and yummy. My plate looked a bit simple. It was a big oval plate with four corn tortillias in a container on the side. Two poached eggs on one side sliding around in 1/4 verde salsa (thin, not chunky) and the other half of the plate was rice and beans. All tasted very good but thought the presentation was lacking. No chopped onions, tomatoes, avocado, there was one sprig of cilantro for garnish. Just two lonely eggs slipping around in a sea of green. Yummy green lol. I don't think we'll be back. I'm always on the hunt for excellent huevos rancheros and this did not quite cut it. I hope they do well. It was clearly family run and everyone was friendly. The booths seemed to be new and...
