My fiance and I are regulars at this restaurant. We live nearby and eat at Rio Chico at least a few times a month (once a week is not uncommon).
Honestly, this place is a gem. We've eaten at much ritzier ($$$) Mexican restaurants in the area and the experience just isn't the same. I've read some of the reviews here and they simply don't do this place justice. If you had bad service or bad food, I'm sorry but that's not the norm.
Rio Chico has THE BEST SERVICE of any restaurant I've ever been to. The only place even remotely comparable is the sister restaurant Rio Grande over in West Ashley. My fiance and I have clocked how long it's taken to get our food from the time we've sat down to the time the food hit the table, and there have been times when the food is on the table in less than 5 minutes. FIVE. MINUTES. This is a sit down restaurant, not some run of the mill fast food joint. In the first minute, chips and salsa are typically on the table and your drink is either on the way or in your hand. The folks in here are FAST. If you come in during peak hours, you aren't guaranteed this speed, but 95% of the time, this is likely to be your experience.
There have been some food complaints in the reviews and I'm just trying to figure out what on Earth these folks ate that they didn't like. Also, to the guy who had an issue with the combinations, ARE YOU SERIOUS?! This menu is huge. There's a ton of options to choose from. If you can't find something to eat on this menu, I hate to break it to you, but you probably shouldn't eat out... ever. My fiance and I have never had anything on the menu that we didn't like. The food is delicious, the portions are huge, and the prices simply can't be beat.
I have no shame in raving about this place and my fiance and I talk it up to all our friends and family whenever the opportunity arises. Rio Chico is the standard for us when it comes to Mexican food and this place has earned it.
Kudos to the wait staff and management at Rio Chico. My fiance and I will be coming here for Mexican for as long as we live in the Mount...
Read moreThis was a delivery. I've been on the search for some good, authentic Mexican food and not your typical burrito/enchilada/taco that you can get about anywhere. If you want those you should just go to Taco Bell, Chipotle or any basic sit down restaurants and save your money. They all can make guacamole, it's not rocket science. So I ordered the Chile Rellenos for one. They looked the best out of the 12 places I have tried them here in Charleston. Unfortunately the cheese stuffed pepper was difficult to cut into even with a steak knife. Very little cheese. Disappointing. 1 star. Next I had the Chicken Mole. Tasty but the meat was chewy due to overcooking. I could not detect any peanut or chocolate in the sauce which is common in good mole. 2 stars. The rice was bland, the chips typical. $55 better spent. CRAZY MONEY for...
Read moreWhile I was a frequent customer and always had pretty good experiences the last time I went there I gave them my visa gift card to use to pay for our lunch, and the ONLY other time I used the card was a previous visit to this location right before new year the girl came back and said it only had .77 cent balance. So please be careful using cards and gift cards at this restaurant as I cannot prove it, but firmly believe the staff member that handled my card took pictures of the numbers and used my card for online purchases for food at Chipotle, cava and gaming purchases. Just weird this was the ONLY place it was ever used and then boom, customers please be careful, being a gift card it’s a lot harder to get back, but...
