Wow. Where do I start. I am extremely disappointed with the experience I had at Calico Cupboard. I’m going to speak of the entire experience only because I had higher hopes driving 45 minutes away to revisit one of my previously favorite restaurants, and The party I had with me were two women who had never been, also driving 45 minutes away, and I assured them that everything on the menu was fantastic. False. Sure, it was 2pm, but don’t offer all day breakfast if you can’t perfect something as simple as biscuits and gravy throughout the day!! The biscuit was dense, burnt; and dry.. the gravy looked as if someone threw a can of baked beans on top (yeah.. I know.. it did not look right) well, maybe a few tablespoons— it looked unappealing, hardly any flavor, and not nearly enough to hide the disappointing biscuit! The potatoes were soggy and burnt. My friend had to order eggs on the side since the $20 biscuit and gravy order only gave a choice of the soggy potatoes OR eggs. Her favorite item on the table was her fountain soda, and the extra side of eggs. I can’t speak for the third woman, but I can speak for myself— I had the Old Town Lunch, which I usually get— half of a Tuscan turkey and a cup of chili. It was okay. Whoever was in the kitchen put zero love into the food that day. My sandwich had a single piece of turkey on it— one slice of bread was thicker than the filling. So… two slices of bread, as you can imagine.. I had 2 pieces of sourdough toast and a very small cup of chili for $20. I would have said something sooner, but the only time I spoke to our server was when we ordered, when our food was delivered, and when we paid. I would have loved to give feedback and order another beverage, or a different meal for my friend, before we left. Overall… extremely embarrassed and disappointed. I hope this was a one-off because I used to love this place!! Most, including myself, can hardly afford to go out anymore, so to have traveled so far to receive what a got.. was irritating. To...
Read moreI wanted to write and say just how disappointing or visit was to your restaurant yesterday. We've been there before, and just loved it. My Mom and Sister are here from out of state and we decided to make the trek up to see the snow geese and have lunch. We arrived and I wrote our name on the sheet per the instructions, then we waited. It was busy and we expected a wait. When we were called, we were asked if we didn't mind the stairs. Unfortunately, my mother is mobility challenged and were told they would wait until a table at door level was ready. So, we waited, and waited and waited. Then we saw parties of 4 coming in and being seated on the first floor. The extremely rude hostess looked at us and asked if we were on the list, I said yes, we were waiting for a table on the first floor, she rudely asked my name, and I told her. She then TOLD ME, That she already called and seated that party. I said there's no way, because we were the party that has been waiting and waiting. We were then told that we HAD to put our name on the list, to which we did. Then someone, out of pity sat us and brought us water and our drinks, then we waited and waited some more. After a while, the server did come take our order. My coffee was empty and water glasses were empty, no offer of refills til later in the meal. I watched our server taking great care of other tables, we were pretty much left to fend for ourselves. When our meals came, my Mother was served a very burnt sourdough roll. I can believe that the kitchen would allow that to pass. Overall, it was the worst dining experience we've ever had in a restaurant. It appeared that we were being treated badly on purpose. My problem did not lie in our names being skipped, the main problem was how rudely we were treated after we spoke up. No offer of an apology, no sympathy, NOTHING!! We will never return to your restaurant, and will make sure to let people know of the experience we had. I know you probably don't care, but you should. most...
Read moreUsually love this place. Have had breakfast here multiple times and never had issues. Today we stopped by for lunch on our way back home from a Seattle trip. The quality of the food was great, but the assembly of our sandwiches was less than Subway or Jimmy John's. I hate even saying this as I love the atmosphere and food quality here. Our waiter with his braided beard, was less than attentive and brought a requested cinnamon roll at the very end after we had finished our lunch like "oh look...its dessert...sorry I forgot to bring this out before..." first off you dropped the ball on our order, then you bring something out at the end of the meal when it should have been first acting like you're all good for looking at what you charged us for on the reciept and then realizing you bring it out at the end with a smugg laugh like sorry you forgot. Now I'm not one to make a scene or complain at places, I've seen the movie waiting...so we just let it go and asked for a to-go box. But honestly, you should have just asked if we still wanted it and apologized. Then you could have brought it out if we did, or take it off the price cause we didn't want it anymore because YOU made the mistake. Our sandwiches were thrown together, more than 90% of my turkey was on one half of the sandwich, and my other half was just bacon, lettuce, and tomato. I'm not saying that it had to be perfectly placed over every piece of bread, but damn you can't even split the ingredients 50/50 for the sandwich, when you charge $20.99 for the damn thing. Just saying Subway and Jimmy John's at least put meat across all the bread. I was very disappointed with the lack of care from the kitchen, and the lack of attentiveness from the waiter. Will seriously consider not going before trying somewhere...
