We gathered to celebrate a friend’s recent doctoral graduation, selecting PF Chang’s for our dinner location within the mall. Upon arrival, our reception was notably cold. Despite observing several unoccupied tables, we were informed of an unavailable seating arrangement and a potential hour-long wait.
However, the option to sit at the bar, contingent upon presenting our IDs, was extended to us, which we accepted without issue.Shortly after settling at the bar, we encountered a peculiar inquiry from a staff member questioning if we hailed from Utah.
Given that all our identification clearly indicated our Utah residency, the relevance of such a question seemed misplaced, if not suggestive, leaving us to ponder if our racial identity might have influenced this line of questioning.
Determined not to let this dampen our spirits, we endeavored to enjoy the evening. Initially, our waiter, Ricky, approached us with a semblance of cordiality, which swiftly dissipated as he began to falter in accurately fulfilling our order.
Upon our courteous request for the correction of these errors, Ricky’s demeanor took a turn for the worse. He escalated to demanding a tip prematurely, responding with outright rudeness when one of us declined due to the unsatisfactory service. And Ricky said “You are poor and can’t afford a tip. You are a sad woman and I am sorry for you”
His remarks were astonishingly unprofessional, insinuating a lack of financial means for tipping and further demeaning her character. This incident raised significant concerns regarding the appropriateness of such interactions in a professional setting, especially directed at a group of educated Black women who are contributing members of Utah’s economy and society.
In search of resolution, we sought dialogue with the supervisor, hoping for an acknowledgment of Ricky's conduct. Instead of facilitating an apology, the supervisor’s response was offering a monetary refund to the aggrieved party as a superficial solution.
Our dissatisfaction stemmed not from the financial aspect but from a profound need for respect and equitable treatment. Compounding our disappointment, the management escalated the situation by calling security on us, an unnecessary and distressing response.
Our experience at PF Chang’s transcends mere dissatisfaction with service; it is indicative of a deeper issue of racial profiling and discrimination. We are compelled to publicly address the management at PF Chang’s, urging them to recognize and rectify the improper handling of our grievance.
We demand accountability from Ricky for his unprofessional, disrespectful, and racially insensitive behavior. It is crucial for PF Chang’s to implement measures ensuring all customers, regardless of racial background, are met with the professionalism and respect they...
Read moreJust an overall meh experience. Got our waters and a beer right away. Appetizers took 25-30 min to come out, our server seemed very inexperienced and kept forgetting things like my drink(an iced tea), the lemons for the iced tea, the sweetener, the straw, the sushi roll we ordered as part of the appetizers. Two soups were order w/ the entrees the server said they couldn’t bring it out before the entree because they didn’t have any clean bowls so we waited for that only to have received a lack luster flavor profile. The taste was described as in inside of a goat barn for the egg drop soup. When entrees came out finally after waiting 45+ min (just barely got my iced tea & still hadn’t received my straw, lemons or sweetener yet) the rice was cold, hardened and lumped together. The spicy chicken dish had room temp pieces mix with hot “fresh” pieces and were soggy and tasted like sweet n sour chicken. Not sure if I received the wrong dish but I was over waiting and didn’t have the mental capacity to address it right then. Everyone around us was also waiting forever. Almost got up and walked out, and after receiving the bill- should have walked out (paying for the appetizers & beer of course) before it got that far into the dining experience for food that I couldn’t gotten faster & better quality from Panda Express. The only thing was was enjoyable was the 2 of the 3 appetizers we ordered and received and the food runner. (That kid was amazing) When I went to the bathroom one of the employees told me they were about to do a bathroom check and the to hurry so they could get it checked off. Kind of a sh!t show and major disappointment. Still tipped 20% cause we don’t know exactly where the ball was dropped but it was our choice to eat out & the server could’ve been having a tough day? Who knows. Hopefully upper management sees this and addresses all the concerns mentioned. Now I’m praying I don’t get food poisoning from what was consumed tonight cause that would be the cherry on top...
Read moreI was in PF Changs at the mall the other night and Jenn was amazing. We got sat quickly and the food was really great. At one point in the night it seemed like an argument broke out between the server and a group of guests? The manager came to the lobby trying to figure out what was going on. But the group of women were just at the managers throat. One lady was filming the whole thing. It really ruined the night for me and my sister. They were so disruptive that security came to clear the situation up! A first for me. We thought it was over but then the fire alarm went off?? I don’t know if these two things were connected but I’m sure other guests were very rattled with this whole situation. I would dine here again for sure but maybe during the week when the restaurant isn’t so busy.
Edit: Thanks for the girls getting back to me. Sorry your experience wasn’t great and I agree the server shouldn’t have acted that way. I used to serve and I agree there was another way to handle the situation. From my point of view it looked like some of that party were just yelling at the manager. Of course I had no idea what was happening but from my perspective, there were no kind words shared, no calm explanations and my night was ruined. I’m sorry your experience was bad but that doesn’t mean you get to ruin everyone else’s day.
Edit 2: To DeAnna I'm sorry you had a similar experience to mine the other night. I hope the rest of your night wasn't ruined and you were still able to enjoy your meal.
Edit 3: I was also out celebrating my upcoming college graduation with my sister. I wish you all the best regarding that but it still doesn't help the fact your arguing ruined the atmosphere of what should have been a happy night for me and my sister. The server shouldn't have said those things and if those things were said to me, I would be upset and angry too. But, there was no need to act so rashly and disturb the rest of us - and film...
