I love Mexican food, so I was excited to try this place, especially after seeing so many good reviews. I was really hoping the food would be terrific, but I was sorely disappointed with nearly everything we ordered.
The al pastor was decent, but very fatty and chewy.
The carnitas were so dry that I ended up throwing out half of it as inedible.
Not many places have pozole, so this was the dish I was most excited to try. Unfortunately, it was just barely above awful. The pork chunks were larger than my wife's fist and were incredibly tough and dry. They looked and tasted like the restaurant found the cheapest cut of pork in the state - one that was so bad they couldn't even cut it into smaller chunks themselves. One of the chunks still had a huge fat cap on one side. It was pale and looked like they didn't bother to season or cook it at all before throwing it in the pot. The best thing I can say about it was that the broth was very good.
Out of everything we ordered, the fish tacos were the best, but that's not saying a lot based on how bad everything else was.
It seemed like maybe a bunch of other people have had similar experiences, because nobody else showed up the entire time we were there.
Maybe we just caught them on a bad night, but it was bad enough that we probably won't...
Read moreI saw the sign go up and have wanted to try this place because it's close to home. Love, love, loved the food. The salsa wasn't my favorite, a little too sweet for me with the mango or pineapple or something, but I still enjoyed it. The collection of hot sauce available was incredible, but I stuck to THEIR green certain which was not as hot as I expected but had incredible flavor. That flavour was added to my fish tacos which were already delicious. I will say, a little small (street taco size) for the price and zero sides, but my partner's burrito made up for it. Portion control goes to tacos, value goes to burritos... Choose accordingly. The service was great except for the communication barrier. The cashier seemed to have the best English but even that didn't make me confident on understanding my vegetarian needs. So I went with a clearly labelled option. However, she then struggled with someone at the drive up and understanding their requests too. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt on rating here, but if you to ensure your order is correct you will need to translate on your end or go the safe route like I did. It's definitely good enough that I will visit again, often, and just order AS IS...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of trying the al pastor tacos here, and they were absolutely phenomenal! From the first bite, I was hooked. The pork was perfectly marinated, tender, and bursting with flavor. The combination of spices and the hint of sweetness from the pineapple created a delightful balance that danced on my taste buds.
The tortillas were fresh, providing the perfect vessel for the delicious filling. Each taco was generously topped with fresh cilantro, onions, and a squeeze of lime, adding a refreshing and zesty touch. The 3 salsas that accompanied the tacos was the perfect blend of heat and flavor, complementing the al pastor beautifully.
What truly set these tacos apart was the attention to detail and the authenticity of the flavors. It was clear that a lot of love and care went into making them. Whether you’re a taco enthusiast or just looking for a fantastic meal, these al pastor tacos are a must-try at La Palapa. I can’t wait to go back...
