I haven't been to Hoss's in years, I thought they were closed. We were excited to go back! The atmosphere was comforting, felt like home. It was very clean. The food, not so much. The soup was so over powered with salt, my lips hurt after the second spoonful, the nacho chips were stale, and the taco meat looked like disgusting sludge from the bottom of the sewer. The salad bar was on point. Everything was clean and well stocked. The dessert bar looked like it was under attack by 10 toddlers with no supervision. But hey, the salad bar and garlic bread stations were good. That's all that matters, right? Service. They need help. The hostess was pleasant and very welcoming. The server...very rude. Betty ruled her eyes at me because I wanted to save money and asked to take my burger home for my fiance and I would eat the salad bar. She also snapped at and scolded my daughter over her plate being too hot. It was Luke warm at best. Let's not forget that I was snapped at for asking for the kids menu, that's its for certain ages only. I said my daughter is in that category. Betty needs to reevaluate her career if she's so unhappy. She certainly isn't thrilled for tips acting like that. I place this review as a form server who was appalled. This wasn't the Hoss's I remember. Nothing today is as it was in the past...we...
Read moreHoss's was a very middle of the road experience with mostly good traits, but nothing overwhelming.
The main entree I decided on was the 1/2lb burger. It features 2 patties pressed flattop style. While it was plenty juicy and the flavor was good the sear was too long making the outside hard and difficult to chew. This came with battered onion rings which were cooked perfectly.
I chose not to order steak because I felt the price point for the quantity was off and I knew I could get a better cut for less elsewhere.
The salad bar was well stocked, and although the items were located sometimes in non-ideal places, they were fresh and good.
Unfortunately the overall atmosphere is very tired. The ranch / rustic style is fine, however this one is straight out of the 80s and in desperate need of an update, this includes the bathroom. To be clear, the restaurant was VERY clean and well maintained, just outdated.
Our son loved it here, and if you have children that crave dessert bars and chicken tenders yours will too.
Overall if you are in need of large portions and quick but solid service, this could be the place for you. However, if atmosphere and exceedingly good quality are your preference you may...
Read moreWe thought it was expensive for what you get. (Over $30 for just the salad bar and water for two people) I was looking forward to the soups on the salad bar since that's all I got. They were so salty I felt like I had gone swimming in the Dead Sea! Holy Cow! I was so disappointed. The parmesan cheese was empty so I missed adding that to my wedding soup. The garlic bread was just their leftover stale buns, I have no problem using what they had left over but it was very stale. I was going to treat myself to some ice cream, but it ran out. There was a family with kids and they hit the ice cream machine hard, but the attendant wasn't checking it at all. It shouldn't have been left to run out.
The waitress was nice enough but never brought drink refills unless we asked. With that salty soup, they should have just left the pitcher! She was also very slow to take away the used dishes.
All in all, I was very disappointed. I seriously doubt we will ever be going back. We used to go often but between the pieces and the salty food, there is just no reason to go there again. Oh, and this morning my husband got sick to his stomach. Could it have been the beets with the black things...
