I tried to order donuts from this bakery for a friend in Michigan, but the experience was really disappointing. Their website didn't work, so I had to use Facebook Messenger to ask about delivery. Their response time was slow, and I had to message them several times to confirm if delivery was even an option. When they finally said they could deliver, they told me to call the shop the morning I needed the donuts delivered.
On the delivery day, I called the shop, gave them the delivery details, but didn't have my card on hand. I asked if I could call back in 5-10 minutes to pay, but they insisted they couldn't accept payment after delivery and that the delivery person was leaving right away. They said I could call back later for another delivery attempt and then hung up on me.
I thought the hang-up was accidental, so I called back a few minutes later with my card ready. As soon as I identified myself, they hung up on me again. I called back a third time, and it went straight to voicemail. Confused and frustrated, I had a friend call from her phone. They answered, but as soon as they heard my voice, they hung up again.
I was trying to use their services and give them money, but their unprofessional behavior was shocking. They repeatedly hung up on me and ignored my attempts to place an order. This bakery's customer service is terrible from my experience, and I strongly advise against trying to use them for any delivery needs.
EDITED IN AFTER OWNER'S RESPONSE:
While I appreciate the effort to clarify the events, I feel it's important to share my side of the story more clearly.
I understand your payment policy and the communication on Wednesday about the store being closed. I would like to clarify that I reached out about this delivery beginning on Monday - two days before the only day off. When I called Thursday morning, I mentioned not having my card, and they assured me I could call back with the details. They also mentioned that someone else from the store would complete my delivery once I provided payment, since the person I was speaking to was leaving immediately to complete the other deliveries.
However, when I called back, I felt dismissed, and I am positive I was abruptly hung up on twice while trying to resolve the situation and get it worked out in everyone's favor. Whether intentional or not, this made it clear that my calls were not a priority.
My review was meant to share an honest account of my experience, not to unjustly harm your business. Negative reviews do have an impact, but so do positive...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI thought positively of this place until I learned that one of their cookie dough + recipe is stolen from another local business. My friendās local business. He was caught taking pictures of her recipe book, and heās stolen her baking equipment and will not let her have it back.
Do better owner of Morat's. AND TREAT YOUR STAFF BETTER. PLEASE.
happily editing this to address the defamation comment
Defamation of character is spoken words that are untrue. A false statement being passed off as a fact to destroy a personās character. However, nothing I said in my review is incorrect. Iām sure you do have a family recipe! Youāve got wonderful stuff. But you also have my friendās recipe that you were SEEN stealing.
Fact: Youāve got my friendās baking equipment and will not return it to her. Am I wrong there? I am not. If we came to your shop today weād see her equipment in your kitchen.
Fact: You were SEEN stealing the cookie dough out of someoneās car. People saw you do it!
Fact: You were SEEN taking photos of my friendās whole recipe book. If we checked your phone, computer, or any hard drives you have, weād find pictures of her recipe book.
Fact: You treat your employees like GARBAGE and itās so disgusting. Iām sure we could ask your employees, past and present, about how you treat them and confirm that too. Not to mention the countless customers whoāve witnessed the way you treat your staff.
edit + with new accurate, documented information Actually, letās hear about your family recipes. The ones that ARENāT frozen pre-ordered breads and pastries that you flip and pass off as your own.**
UPDATE: most, but not all of the baking equipment was returned. When picked up, Carollee was outside with her phone and taunting with sarcastic gestures (which is documented on camera). Multiple customers and former employees came forward on the post made by The Doughnut Experience about what happened. The post is on social media if you'd like to read it over. All spoke of the disgusting mistreatment, disgusting work conditions, lying, deceitful behavior of these business owners, and goods they pass off as their own. *Reminder, please review the definition of defamation I provided above. Nothing stated here is inaccurate. A lot of it is documented via screenshots,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI never thought Ryke's could be beat. I was wrong.....
For more than 3 decades my go to place for cookies, cakes, and pastries was always Ryke's bakery. So when I saw Morat's open up I was curious to try them out. I figured Ryke's had the bakery market in Muskegon pretty much shored up. Wow! I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. Morat's breads, cookies, and pastries are delicious. Freshly made, soft, and sweet (but not overly so) everything I have tried from them has been so delicious. Their cheese danish in my opinion is the best around. Their donuts have an old fashioned texture and flavors that can't be beat especially when paired with a fresh cup of coffe. The staff is super friendly and I never feel rushed. They are happy to answer all of my questions. While I haven't had the chance to try their food menu items, I'll be putting it on my soon to do list. If you are visiting the downtown, the Farmer's Market, the Cheese Lady, or the Village Markets your venture will not be complete, without stopping in for one of...
