Positives: This place is all atmosphere. If that's your thing, you will love this establishment. The service from the server was also top notch.
Negatives: The food was just sort of okay. At a price of $30 a plate, I really expected better. The chicken in the chicken parm was dry, the sauce somewhat made up for it. The mother clucker pizza was heavy and overpowering. They tried to brighten it with pesto and fresh tomatos. I could see what they were going for, but the balance was just not there. Everyone else thought thier food was okay, but just not great.
The "craft cocktails" were a joke. Tiny portions at $11 a glass, and it had horribly stark artificial flavor; Hi-C, levels of koolaid tang with a bit of grit. Add that to the fact that they got mine wrong and refused to refund it and it's my biggest complaint. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri, and it tasted strongly of coconut, was an unappealing muddy white, and there was not a straberry within 100 miles of this thing. I hate coconut, I had just told my waitress I didn't want a pina colada because I don't like coconut, and I got served and charged for a coconut daiquiri. In case you are wondering, no, I did not drink it; $11 for coconut koolaid in a glass. I was not putting that in my body. Since it is thier policy not to refund drinks even when they are clearly wrong, I am rating thier service administration policy at 0. At the rate they charge for plate, they should be able to refund a drink that is clearly wrong or at least bring me the right drink without charging a new one. I want to make clear that does not reflect on my server, who did excellent. My guess is a lot of those awful things get sent back and they haven't gotten the hint that they are awful so instead they charge you regardless and think that everyone that drank it rather than lose $11 a glass was lying about how bad they are. I wonder if they've analyzed how many repeat drinkers there are of those cocktails. At $11 a glass I would have had up to 5, but I was not throwing my money away on something undrinkable.
A note for food allergies: The gluten free crust was a cardboard rock, almost more cracker than crust. There are so many great gluten free options these days so again this is disappointing for the price. Frankly, the gluten free crust at Hungry Howies knocks Capone's crust right out of consideration. If you are craving pizza, this is not your place for gluten free. It's just not your place if you are gluten free period. Also with gluten free pasta readily available, there are no gluten free options on this menu beside the awful pizza crust. A...
Read moreAs a Chicagoan currently living in Michigan, I am extremely leery of any restaurant, eatery, food stand, food truck, or any other that claims to be "Chicago style", or "Chicago themed". So when I heard of a place called Capone's speakeasy, I was extremely skeptical to say the least.
This is the first time I can honestly say that I was not disappointed. In fact, I was downright impressed. I had what can be considered the greatest old-fashioned I ever had in my life, (and I know my way around an alcoholic beverage quite well). The bartender should honestly star in the next Harry Potter movie has the potions teacher. He is a master at his craft and you can tell by the cocktails he makes, and the liquor he uses to make them with. this is a man that uses care and concern and what he does and that's rare to find in this day and age. the chef barnone is a mad genius who somehow is able to encapsulate the very essence of Chicago style cooking and cuisine. The last time I had an Italian beef sandwich that good, it was at damenzo's (chicago-style pizzeria and general food eatery that's considered one of the best in the area). The server we had was attentive, alert, astute, and several other words the begin with the letter a that mean good that escape me at this moment. The theming and the aviance takes you back to the roaring 20s wear true gems like this was hard to find, harder to get into, and harder to keep away from once you've been inside. Muskegon has a true hidden gem in it's midst. Anyone who is everyone who loves anything having to do with Chicago themed dining, or good food in general, will absolutely love this place. the mad genius behind this restaurant is Jim, the same Jim who owns the Top Shelf pizzerias here in town, so you know by virtue to expect the very best. This restaurant is a true illustration to the old saying that "consistency is the key". I plan to return enough times so that I can have everything on the menu at least twice 😁. I hope to see you there when I do because I recommend this restaurant to any and everyone who...
Read more😍😍😍 This restaurant is absolutely PHENOMENAL!!!
FOR STARTERS, upon entering the restaurant, the Maitresse was dressed professionally and she had a friendly demeanor that was ready and willing to assist us. Also at the entrance, there was another woman sitting on a bar stool, and she also had a very friendly demeanor and was incredibly inviting.
When we entered the actual restaurant, I immediately was taken back to a time period of history that reflected the 20's and 30's which was breathtaking! I absolutely LOVE history as well as visiting historical landmarks and this was a treat. Moreover, as a millennial, it was great to travel back in time based on the decor alone. The restaurant was strategically designed to reflect a time period in Chicago where Al Capone ruled the streets as a Mobster. In fact, his picture was hanging on the wall at the bar area due to the fact that the restaurant is named after him. The restaurant was small, but beautifully decorated to reflect a speakeasy coupled with class and elegance.
The waitress was fabulous, friendly, professional, patient, and her demeanor was excellent overall. It took us awhile to figure out what we wanted because everything on the menu made our mouths water, but we eventually decided on MEATBALLS as a starter and we ordered a Deep Dish Pizza.
🧆 THE MEATBALLS WERE FANTASTICALLY-DELICIOUS, AND WE DEVOURED EVERY BITE that was delivered in a cast iron skillet!!!
🍕 THE PIZZA WAS MADE WITH FRESH INGREDIENTS AND THE TASTE WAS BEYOND MY EXPECTATIONS...the chef nailed Chicago Deep Dish Pizza!
🌟 IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT in Muskegon Michigan that closely resembles the decor and TASTE OF CHICAGO, look no further than Capone's Speakeasy...you won't be disappointed I GUARANTEE IT!!! 🌟
✅ Here's a word of advice...make sure that you make reservations if you plan on attending during the busiest time periods. The restaurant only has a select amount of available tables and booths plus a bar area...please keep...
