My oldest son and his family were visiting from NJ. Just as we have done during past visits, we decided to go to Myrtle Beach for some shopping at the outlets and PF Chang’s for a late lunch. Knowing it was a Saturday, I made the reservation for 10 people, using their app, for 4pm. We arrived at 3:27 and checked in. The impersonable host stated that he checked us in, but it would be closer to 4pm, that we would be seated. The restaurant was not busy at all. While we sat in the waiting area, the host continued to seat other guests. At 3:45pm another host showed up. He said “oh, I’m glad you are here.” As he prepared to leave, he told her that he was not seating the 12 top until 4. Mind you, we were the 12 top, waiting to be sat. For the next few minutes, other “walk-in guests continued to arrive, and were immediately sat at a table. One group of guests asked about wait times, and was told, “there is no wait time,” and immediately sat. I approached the podium and inquired, why we had to wait to be seated if there was no wait time. The host, not very personable either stated, she was waiting for other staff to arrive. We had already watched several staff members arrive within the last few minutes. At 4:07, the hostess asked if we had a reservation. I said yes, we do have a reservation, and have been sitting here since 3:27. She replied, “OK, I’ll have to go ask someone.” A few minutes later, she returned and stated they were going to work on setting up our table. There had already been tables placed together to accommodate a large party. Another person came to the podium and checked in newly entered non-reservation customers. After 10 minutes, she apologized to us for the wait. It was close to 4:30, before we were sat at the table that was already set up for a large party. Our server was friendly, and did a great job, until it came to the timing of our main entrees. The lag time between the children’s meals being served and our main entrees, was extremely long. This was absolutely the worst experience we have ever had...
Read moreWe’ve been going to P.F. Chang’s for years in numerous states, and while somewhat pricey the food had always been good, including the one here in Myrtle Beach (not a bastion of Chinese cuisine).
We’ve been going to the Myrtle Beach Chang’s for 3 years and have enjoyed it. Well, we went to Chang’s again after a 6-month hiatus, and we were shocked. Prices were up substantially. And worse, except for the soups, the food was awful. I had a beef lo mein in which the slices of “beef” were very dark brown looking lumps and looked like wood chips (and were as hard as wood as well). Inedible. Appears to have been leftover from the day before and then burned when reheated. I wanted to take photos of the lumps of hard meat, but they were so black on the black plate I couldn’t get a good image of them. Our theory regarding this “beef” was that it was possibly old, leftover Mongolian Beef which was re-cooked. Yet some of the vegetables in my dish were barely cooked at all. The pork fried dumplings had very doughy, thick skins and the filling was very coarse-ground, gristly pork. I had to spit out large chunks of gristle and bone, and we did not eat them after a bite or two. Also disgusting. My wife & I have especially loved Chang’s dumplings, remembering them with delicate skins and delicious fillings; not true anymore. In the rattiest Chinese takeout in Jersey City, I’ve had far better food. I will say that the waitstaff was professional, pleasant and efficient and we tipped well.
We have only complained about the food while in a restaurant once before and it wasn’t a good experience; so we decided just to leave rather than making a fuss.
However, we’re never going back to any Chang’s again. There are far better, reasonably-priced Chinese restaurants in the Myrtle Beach area, including takeout joints, with consistently...
Read moreMy mom wanted to eat here with family for her birthday, so I made reservations a week in advance for 10 people. We have been eating here ever since this location opened and it has been a hit or miss each time but we keep returning. After last nights experience I will not be returning. The entire table ordered the lettuce wraps which some came out 20 minutes apart but they tasted okay. However, everyone’s entrees were extremely disgusting. The table each ordered a different entree including orange chicken, sweet and sour, sesame, changs chicken, and beef and broccoli. The chicken dishes were incredibly mushy, not crispy or hot at all. I have had better experiences with the P.F. Chang’s frozen meals in a bag. Our orders were messed up as well, some of us didn’t even order dishes as we were going to split them but extra entrees were brought out anyway. Everyone ordered fried rice which didn’t come until the waitress came over 20 mins after everyone’s food came out and they were already eating. The food was already cold and we didn’t want to wait for it to get even colder. Our waters all sat empty with no refills throughout the experience. A random waiter came over and filled up maybe two people’s glasses the entire time. Everyone in the party drove at least an hour to eat there and it was a very disappointing experience for us, especially with it being my...
