This is my first review, but after the experience I had with my fiance at the Freshfit Cafe this morning, I had to make our unacceptable experience with this highly reviewed place(4.9 stars) known to people seeking it out. This is going to be a little in-depth, but in contrast with the positive reviews others have made I hope that our experience was not a normal one and will be fixed for future customers.
Starting out with the HORRIBLE(bare with this it get's worse): When we were served our pancakes the syrup that was given to us was so watery that it splashed off the pancakes then made them instantly soggy. My fiance tried it with her pancake and said it didn't taste normal at all. When we asked if that was how the syrup normally was, the waiter went back to the kitchen and brought out the industrial sized jug of syrup and poured it into a little cup in front of us(that syrup was actually syrup). He also offered to replace the pancake(which he didn't have any hesitation about so kudos to that). Skip to the end of the meal and when the waiter brought us our check he apologized for the syrup. I responded with, "It's okay, the syrup just might've been sitting for awhile and separated" and he said "No, that was the syrup I left outside in the sun all day on the patio, and overnight I think it rained so that was just the rain water in the syrup mug." We were shocked and couldn't comprehend how that was even remotely okay to serve to a customer. He smiled and said he gave us a discount for the trouble, which was 10% on a 19 dollar check(less than two dollars off for ingesting dilapidated syrup that may send us to the hospital).
Overall: the meal that we had was warranted for the high reviews just due to the lack of food allergy options in the OuterBanks, we had the gluten free pancakes. BUT I do not trust the food safety procedures, especially paired with the dirty cup we had and the lipstick stained napkins that must've been left for us from the previous customers. The waiter seemed like he cared, and was attentive to our table. When we walked in, the waiter called out to a group of people leaving and asked them to leave a review if they could, and they all said they would but when we left he never asked us to...
Read moreHigh on healthy options, value, taste, and great service! Highly recommended.
We went here for the first time on vacation and we’ll be back! This place is a great find, especially for those looking for GF, Vegan, healthy, and food allergy options. We took our daughter (who has several food allergies) and the staff was accommodating and knowledgeable about the necessity for providing options with no cross contamination. She got a smoothie and a baked brownie - typically, we’ve found delicious vegan brownies hard to find (she can’t eat egg or milk) but these were quite good. She even had trouble choosing between several muffin and cookie options offered (all displayed in a separate case - something folks with food allergies will appreciate).
We tried both lunch and breakfast items. The smoothies and juices are varied and delicious. After trying more than one juice and smoothie, our whole family chose the green juice and smoothie again. We also ordered a salad and a wrap which were fresh, and thoughtfully put together. The grilled chicken on the salad was especially tasty.
Then, we went back for breakfast. Breakfast was absolutely surprising, and a better value than other breakfast places. The omelettes are stuffed full of toppings, and they weren’t lean on veggies the way other breakfast places locally are. My husband ordered the oatmeal, and we were surprised to find that “fruit topping” meant not just “fruit sprinkle” but an assortment of fresh and seasonal fruits. The hash browns as a side were amazing - golden brown and crispy, and prepared with onions and...
Read moreFresh Fit Cafe is a place for those who want to eat healthy, on a peaceful, yet beautiful set up. They have a water view from almost every window, with the option for you to sit outside. The food is lovely. Great presentation, and more than anything, prepared to order, which makes it fresh, and legit. If you have any food allergies, or if you are in some sort of food regimen, this is one of your best bets. I read some reviews about the food taking a bit too long. Just to be clear, if it does, it is because it is prepared as you order. You are not going to get any microwaved stuff here. Besides, under Covid, the staff has to be more particular about cleaning, sanitizing, preparing foods. Also, a lot of our restaurants in town are understaffed, and if you are coming in August, most of the little amount of students they were able to come, are about to go. One more thing: If you eat here, you will be supporting two fantastic individuals, Tunga and Stephen. This young couple's goal was to provide healthy food and feed those with special food needs. Their goal since the very beginning was super positive. Also, during the pandemic, even when they were struggling to survive the shut down days, they provided free food to a lot of people, and make sure no one went hungry. They are SUPER people and loved in the community. I particularly love my shrimp bowl with avocado dressing.. but sometimes, I just feel like a mushroom burger. ..and their breakfast! yummmm.. anyway, as you can see it is a win win at this...
