Our fam visits OBX every year, usually in September. I asked a friend who has been to the OBX more frequently, for a good lunch spot. He recommended this place, so we have it a shot!
Atmosphere was beach town vibes, outdoor seating at colorful picnic tables. Unfortunately the flies were EVERY WHERE, but it's early fall in a beach town (the server even apologized for the flies, but honestly, nothing she could do about it!). Bathrooms were around corner and "good enough", but I had to give the door a good shove so that it would close all the way and be able to lock. I went back to the table to finish eating but then my son could not get out, and had to bang on the door to get out.
Read morePlease Don't!!! Ordered online, it took over a half an hour after the time it stated online that it would be ready (almost an hour total). The place was packed with just people waiting for their food. They had banana pudding on their sign out front, but had none. Now to the food, NO! Nothing about this is smoked or legit in anyway. The ribs were dry, covered in nasty sauce, and TINY! The brisket could not have been smoked, I will never believe that, no smoke ring in sight. The chicken is at least edible, although not good, just better than the worst. The pulled pork ewwwww I shudder!! I couldn't eat it, spit it out and my dog wouldn't eat it. The baked beans are sour gross, coleslaw had no seasoning at all, ewwwww. The only piece I liked was the hush puppies, and those are just run of the mill, but at least edible. Oh and lastly, I ordered pork grinds and they did not have that either, wanted to swap it out for something else, no, refund please! Huffy cashier then proceeded to do other things then eventually came and gave me my refund. All around such a bad experience, food was disgusting! Heed my warning, go somewhere else, and business owner, please do quality...
Read moreOUTSTANDING BBQ and Ribs on the OBX! Sooey's is not a chain and it's not big, but it's the real deal as far as NC BBQ goes. Yep, you're going to want a lot of fresh seafood when you vacay at the Outer Banks, but you're gonna want a break from all the tuna and clams if you're there for more than a few days, and it's good to remember not only that you're at the beach, but you're at the beach in NC where they have the best BBQ in the world. And I'm ranking Sooey's Best at the Beach. It's a small establishment around MP 12.5 or so, near where the Beach Rd. (NC12) and the Bypass (US158) come together. All the soulful sides you'd expect (beans, greens, slaw, taters), generous portion sizes for sandwiches and platters, good value for the money. Parking is free and outside dining is available. And the BBQ is NC-style vinegar-based DELICIOSO. Hush puppies are good and home made also. You're gonna want to think about getting some brisket to go so you can put it in a cooler and enjoy when you're back where you came from. (If you're local, I think they do catering as well). Not a spot to miss during your...
