South Beach — Restaurant in Nags Head

We hired South Beach Takeout to cater our wedding reception back in June and it was incredible and a wonderful experience!

We (and our families) are from Southern California but we had our reception in Kitty Hawk. I wanted tacos, but we weren't sure we'd find tacos that were up to our standards. We were prepared to switch to BBQ (since it's NC), but ended up LOVING the tacos here.

Wayne, Kerstin, and the rest of the team were so incredibly accommodating during the process. I'm vegetarian and we were going to have guests who were vegan and lactose intolerant, not to mention our meat-loving guests, so we had to find a menu that worked best for us. We're not local, so all of this was done over email. Each email we received was thorough and incredibly helpful, with all of the detail and reassurances we were looking for. They were thoughtful about the ingredients, mindful of our budget, and willing to work with us on our timeline and location.

Even just stopping by for a tasting of the tacos was incredible. We were taken care of and Wayne was there to walk us through everything himself. Honestly it was a very difficult decision on which tacos to order, as they were all great. We actually ended up expanding our menu to make room for more.

On the day of the reception, they made their way all the way to Kitty Hawk to deliver the food. We opted to pay for serving utensils and plates/utensils/napkins/etc., which was also great. Wayne and Kerstin set everything up, labeled everything, and made sure we were happy before taking off. We settled up at the end and the cost was reasonable and absolutely worth everything we received in return.

Very little food was left at the end of the night (just enough for a family lunch the next day), and we had plenty of compliments on the food. It kept everyone full and happy, which is all you can really ask of Wedding Reception food, right?

I wouldn't hesitate for a second to hire South Beach again. Sorry for the delay in writing this review but thanks again...

07/31/2022 UPDATE They've completely changed since last year. My wife and I put an online order in close to 5pm and it was ready for me to take back to the hotel by 5:15pm. I'm very happy and satisfied with South Beach now. The service was great and the staff was so friendly. The food was delicious. I had 3 fish tacos with fries. My wife had the BBQ wrap. Omg.. the fry sauce is the greatest condiment I've ever had the pleasure of dipping my fries into. We'll be coming back again next year when we visit again for sure.

04/06/2021 We put in an online order at 7pm tonight. The website said it would be ready by 7:35 but shortly after submitting my order I get a call from the restaurant. They said it would take longer than 35min, more like 1 hour. That was fine, I didn't mind waiting till 8 and I understand that they were busy. So I get there at 8pm and server comes out and says, "it's gonna be a while".

Bruh, we didn't get our food till almost 9pm. Horrible service. I'm mad I tipped them on the website when I put my order in.

The food itself wasn't even that good either. I had the fish tacos, very lacking in flavor. My wife had the blackened chicken sandwich. She said it was OK but the bun was super soggy. We also ordered fried, they were good especially with the fry sauce but not good enough to justify a 2 hour wait.

If they had told me from the jump it would be longer than 1 hour, I would have caught a refund and gone somewhere else. That what makes me so mad. Don't waste my time and be honest.

Update The manager contacted me after this event and refunded my whole purchase. They were very kind and...

Totally impressed! Tried them on a whim and even though they are less than a mile and a half from my house I hadn't heard of them. I ordered a cheeseburger south beach style and Cajun fries and i gotta say this is hands down the BEST burger I've had in decades. The LTO could have been picked from the garden this morning, the bun is soft and warm and the patties are savory and juicy. I chose the Cajun fries as a side and they are hand cut steak fries with a subtle dusting of seasoning. I also ordered the garden salad which I've only peeked at (as delectable this burger and fries are I may not get to the salad quite yet.) Garden salads are typically lettuce, tomato, onion and maybe cucumber. Not this one; it has a whole garden's worth of veggies and healthy seeds accompanied by a tangy vinaigrette dressing. I had the order set for a scheduled delivery time - due to COVID- and it arrived 30 minutes early and left neatly outside my front door. Prices are a tad higher than some of the other places around here but a thousand percent worth spending extra for if you want a fresh and delicious quality meal. This is a hidden jewel off of the beaten path of the seasonal tourists here on the OBX. I encourage locals and visitors alike yo check them out. And I recommend the chefs...
