So this seemed fun and exotic - New Zealand style ice cream. I have no idea if I'll ever go to NZ so thought it made sense to try the ice cream here. Interesting how they use only Vanilla and blended with other fruits to create flavors.
I think the ice cream itself is OK, more of the experience is different. It's not world class or the best ice cream I've had but not the worst. You pick your cup/cone, and vanilla as your base (or dairy free vanilla) and choose a fruit which is blended into the vanilla to create that flavor of ice cream. The fruits are frozen so they are not retaining the original flavor but that's fine. Vanilla ice cream itself is also not homemade.
Aside from the fruit flavors, the topping selection is great - the only one I would actually recommend is the Hokey Pokey which literally everyone also got. It's a mixture of toffee and honeycomb which results in an amazing flavor.
I really like the interior design, it's super modern and really like the art and vibe. New Zealand animals and style make it seem more real.
Overall 4/5, cool experience to see the fruit flavor you pick being blended inside to create...
Read moreVery clean inside, insane asylum-style lighting really throws off the vibe tho. The ice cream is served in very generous portions and the waffle cone was full of flavor and plenty of crunch. However, there could have been more fruit added to the ice cream for a punchier flavor. Adding Nutella or Peanut Butter is a bit pointless because it just turns into a big blob on the top of the ice cream - allegedly it couldn't be mixed into the ice cream because of peanut allergies even though there were two machines for mixing. Regarding the comments about their prices - cost is subjective and their prices are clearly laid out on the menu. Also, homegirl who left a review that said Americans need more sugar should probably just stick to getting a box of high fructose corn-syrup "ice cream"...
Read moreVisited Keyz the 1st day they were open this season. Had driven by a couple of times and was curious about NZ ice cream. Well let me tell you we were not disappointed! The entrepreneurial young adults running this place were welcoming and friendly. The ice cream was tasty - there were four us us in the group and we all tried something different. The Kookaberry and Mango were both big hits! You pick your base of either vanilla or dairy free vanilla, choose a frozen fruit to blend in and then add toppings of your choice. You can have it in a cone or bowl. The space is clean and well run and they have an outdoor space with cornhole, ladder golf and a giant connect four game. Check out Keyz and treat yourself to some...
