This new Obx restaurant filled some big shoes moving into the old blue moon spot. Came here on accident but will plan to return again for solid food, great service, and fresh squeezed oj for my crush. The place opened post season (October 2023). The staff seems committed to creating a vibe that is pleasant, local, and good food. I had so many things with our table of three which sat rather quickly (but a line was waiting in their very chill and large seating adjacent to their open air raw bar). We started with drinks: orange crush (I upgraded to gray goose— we had a chat about that!), key lime crush, and house margarita. For apps we had the oyster rock, fried oysters, and a few raw oysters. Delicious. I’d like a few buttered breadcrumbs but the oyster rock was dynamite. I would come back just for that. The fried oyster in duck fat was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. I would come back for that too. The raw oysters were fresh and that shark bite vignette was so so tasty. Yes please. Finally a clever reversion of a raw bar. I’d suggest a fresh menu print out of the days raw offerings and I wasn’t sure if there was more than just oysters being offered. For dinner we had the shrimp and scallop over grits, crab cake sandwich, and the shrimp ramen. All three were delicious and well prepared. I was impressed that my miso poached shrimp were not over done. The noodles left me wanting a fresher take though since I wasn’t sure if they came from that ramen package from college or not. But despite, I would get again though I was eying the blackberry cooli on the salmon … next time. The sear on the scallops were perfect and the grits creamy. The broiled crab cake had all the flavors on point and hardly any filler. For dessert we got the chocolate cake with these big camp fire cups of decaf coffee and it was bigger than my face. I personally really enjoyed the raspberry sauce and might suggest a cup serving on the side because it’s so big. The ambiance was feeling nice, chic, local, open. I loved the open air kitchen and the largeness of the bar. I thought I was going to a dive bar and found a fantastic local eatery with stunning food and fantastic drinks. Pleasantly surprised in all the best ways. Thank you for showing up and doing a restaurant concept right with great food. I’ll be back over and over. Ps, and thanks for the military discount. Very kind and admirable of you. Good work y’all and keep it up. You are setting some new standards in Obx. Do y’all do reservations? I never asked since I accidentally found you. ...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped by on a weekday evening for date night dinner and the wait for seating inside was nearly two hours. However the host offered us seating outdoors immediately, and while it was a bit gusty, we decided to take that offer. While small (maybe 6 tables), it is somewhat enclosed which helped to damper the breeze.
Our server Hannah was quick to greet us, and talk us through their specials that evening. We started with house margaritas (which were on special for $5) and the fried calamari. The margaritas were simple, but good, and the calamari was also very good! Hannah also provided excellent recommendations and prompt service which was greatly appreciated.
For my entree, I was disappointed to learn that they were out of one of the specials, and so instead opted for the chili-glazed duck. I was a bit skeptical of how well a beach raw bar would do duck, but my-oh-my was I surprised. The duck was cooked a perfect medium rare, with a sweet and spicy chili sauce glazed over it. It was served along with broccolini over a bed of sticky rice. The flavors of each component perfectly complimented the others, and the portions were generous. The broccolini was a perfect tender crisp, providing a nice balance of texture to the overall dish.
My wife opted for the Baja tacos which were on special, which she found excellent as well. The sauces with which they were served, however, she found far too spicy.
Overall, great service with one very good and one stellar dish. I haven’t been so pleasantly surprised by a dish in quite some time! I would highly recommend the...
Read moreWe have been looking forward to trying Dune Street for some time and, let me tell you, if you are an oyster connoisseur, you need to check this place out. (Even if you aren't a fan of oysters, their menu offers tons of variety with exceptional flavor combinations). The interior has had a fresh, modern face-lift, with a large bar installed in the dining area. Selection of oysters varied from Virginia down to Hyde County and the accompaniment sauces were a beautiful addition. Our favorites were the NN Dive Sauce (slightly spicy) and the Island Mignonette (a little sweet). We snacked on a perfectly displayed charcuterie board - that whipped pimiento cheese, fig jam, and teardrop peppers were chef's kiss- and some hot, fresh fries. Our cocktail milepost 13 for the win was exceptional. Our server and other restaurant staff were highly attentive and offered great recommendations as well as the promise to source their food locally. Although not immediately advertised, our server did report that they have a kid's menu. If you save room, the chocolate cake slice was large enough to share. Seating availability hasn't increased from the former restaurant, that we can tell. On this visit, we did not have to wait for a table, but as more folks learn about how great this place is, I would expect a wait. Entree menu looks amazing, so we are excited to return for a family meal. Dune Street is a welcome addition to the Nags Head restaurant scene and we are looking forward to...
