I'm so very sad to be so disappointed. I'm addicted to strawberry banana milkshakes. Every time we drive up the beach from our home on Hatteras, I try a new place in search of the best strawberry banana milkshake. It's hard to beat a Chilly Hanks milkshake but always fun to try! While ordering I was informed that they were out of bananas. Ok, no biggie... I can try something new! 101 people have 5☆ So, I ordered a strawberry cheesecake milkshake instead. I assumed they used fresh strawberries if they use fresh bananas, right??? I went to the washroom while they prepared my shake. Imagine my surprise when I was handed a bright pink, strawberry flavored syrupy cup of yuck. I didn't taste it until after we left the parking lot and was beyond disappointed. My husband drank half as we hate to complain or waste. We stopped by Captain’s Scoop expecting something special based on the glowing reviews — but honestly, it was a letdown from the start.

The ice cream is just standard Hershey’s, nothing house-made or unique. You can get the same thing in a grocery store freezer aisle. Nothing memorable or worth going out of your way for.

The interior is very plain, with zero effort put into design or atmosphere. It feels more like a roadside stand than a place you’d want to hang out or come back to.

Really not sure why this place is so highly rated. Maybe it’s the location or nostalgia for some people, but if you’re looking for quality ice cream or a thoughtful experience, this isn’t it.
