I have been going to this restaurant since 1998, I even worked here during that time I was in jr.high. I have known Sonny and those chefs since I was a kid...they bring a special and specific flavor from Chinatown downtown. I'll start by saying that. So when I came in to order food, I noticed the new decorations...very nice..minus the absence of the Buddha statue, I've been rubbing that belly since i was a kid. I noticed next that Sonny wasn't there and the chefs were different...polite young girl in the front let me know they were all on vacation..ok fine, so I order eggrolls, springrolls, egg foo young, and let me say, thank goodness I cut my order short...the eggrolls were muchhhh smaller and it tasted like catfood...the spring rolls were soggy inside but crunchy outside. And the biggest disappointment? The egg foo young..hands down, the worst egg foo young I have had to date...the egg foo young was separate from the sauce, and over fried dry like a way over cooked omelet that someone decided to deep fry...and the sauce? Like someone watered down oyster sauce...this is NOTTTTTT egg foo young. Sure you have a nice team going for you, very polite and friendly...sure you have a new set up inside with new decorations...but I don't go there to hang out, I go to eat theee best Chinese food around...since 1998...that's what Taste of China's loyal customers return for and you guys have taken that away. It's not just me...I have spoken to several of the customers and even the previous owners and precious delivery drivers who all agree. This was without a doubt the best Chinese food in this area...and now I gotta drive at least 20miles to get some..I am sad and disappointed...truly an end of an era. Whatever you guys did to make Sonny and the other chefs leave? You need to fix it...this restaurants success was built on their backs by their hands and their skills and flavors, and a perfect team of customer service and new decorations isn't going...
Read moreIncredibly disappointing! This was our go to place for Chinese. Sadly, after tonight's order we won't be going back. They changed everything from the food to the sweet and sour sauce and packaging. In the past we never had a bad experience and our orders were always correct. Today, we received a few mystery items that we didn't order... some sort of bright red sauce in a container that was runny / flavorless and an order of what we think may have been crab rangoon. The orange chicken consisted of tiny breaded chicken crumbles with a fishy taste. The chicken fried rice was darker in color with no taste at all. The chicken lo mein was flavorless as well and contains mushrooms now. The egg roll was ok, but we miss the sweet and sour sauce with the apricot flavor that has now been replaced. We paid over $90 for dinner and nobody was happy with their meal. We ended up throwing most of it out because it was so bad. This has to be new management using the old Taste...
Read moreUnfortunately, this was our last visit. My family and I have been ordering from here for over 10 years. While the food was never spectacular, it was good tasting and consistent. We would order at least once per month for dinner. Over the last few years we have noticed a decline in food quality. We called and talked with a manger once or twice and they always re-made or offered a credit. The last year or so we have only ordered maybe 2 or 3 times. Each time the food was of poor quality. The beef was very mushy and fatty, the chicken was hard and fatty. Some of the darker sauces had a foul smell to them. Last night the vegetable egg rolls had vinegar on the outside them (very wet/greasy with strong vinegar). Unable to eat. The crispy noodles were softer and stale. As a family we decided to never order from there again. They have a second location in Plainfield on Rt. 59. We have had similar experiences there as well. I would not...
