Pricey, and white-washed
I have been having bibimbap for many years while living on the East coast, and even in Canada where the population of Koreans is larger, therefore the food made as would typically eat at home.
I missed the welcome experience with a warm cup of Barley tea, this is a synonym of Korean culture and a warm welcome.
The bibimbap on the hot stone looks great and comes piping hot but the fact you have to pay extra for proteins is really odd. I have eaten at dozens of Korean places and never had it be "an additional charger", especially when it sits at $20 already. One star off for being greedy and charging extra.
The Ban Han, or side dishes, are usually a treat for your meal and they are NOT WHAT YOU GET IN YOUR BIBIMBAP. To get pretty much the same side dishes as what I already have inside my bibimbap (aisle for the kimchi, fish cake and pancake) was again another odd experience. The most precious part of eating a Korean meal is being spoiled with delicious (and endless) Banchan, but here not only are they the same thing you already get on your dish but they also charge you extra if you want a "refill". Again another oddity, especially when the owners are Korean.
I also found some of the iconic, spice side dishes completely missing. Even the Kimchi is very mild that it feels more like a sauerkraut.
Overall it was a nice lunch, but it didn't take me back to the Korean eateries I have enjoyed so much, the food missed a zest, some spiciness. Drowning the bibimbap in Gochujang (or what they call here salsa) isn't how I want to enjoy my lunch.
I would skip it, until they up their game in either seasoning things better, providing a better ambiance or charge an price that matched the...
Read moreIf food is the only thing you care about a restaurant, you'd probably be safe to go here. But if you're like me and care about the restaurant owner's work ethic and how they treat their employees, I would not go here. The owner is greedy and was so mean to her employees the whole time we were there. Talking down to them and constantly belittling. It made us very uncomfortable. Also, they charged me more than I owed. I realized this after I paid everything including tip with a credit card, so I brought it up to the owner. She gave me cash for the difference instead of canceling and rerunning the transaction. Then what about the tax and tip that was calculated by the percentage? My young son was just done and wanted to leave, so I just decided to let her have a few more bucks because she's not worth my time. The owner was very pushy, rude, and two-faced. She literally became a different person when she was talking to a big group (=higher bill). If you'd like to support good, kind small business owners,...
Read moreOn my second visit here, I highly recommend dropping by. Reservations are available, but my roommate and I lucked out with perfect timing and were the first ones in when we arrived. The portions tend to be generous, so sharing is a good idea. We started with both the tteokboki and Mandu for appetizers before diving into our dolsot bibimbap orders—I went with the regular, but you can upgrade to bulgogi beef if you prefer. The staff is friendly and helpful, its a relaxing atmosphere with k-pop music in the background. Our made-to-order food arrived within 15-20 minutes, with appetizers promptly served before our main dishes. Each meal also comes with ban chan, the side dishes, adding to the experience. The tteokboki was as delicious as ever, with perfectly chewy rice cakes, and the fried mandu was crispy and delicious. The omelet rice was amazing , ut had great flavor and was quite tasty. I'll definitely be returning for another...
