Final edit (please start at the bottom)- last morning in town.
Keke's, you truly have made our breakfast adventures pleasurable. We have enjoyed ourselves each time. Today, my daughter had the Nutella Stuffed French Toast. She loved it, but the Turtle FT was better. I decided to get extra meat and extra cheese on my cheese steak omlet. Neither of us were disappointed. Both were happy and stuffed when we left. If ever we are back in Nashville, you can count on us to be back and excited to be there. Thank you so much!
2nd Edit - The morning after that...
So, I decided to treat my daughter to Keke's since she had no conference events today. She is a big French Toast lover, and her eyes almost popped out of her head when she saw the "Turtle Stuffed French Toast" (pictured). She enjoyed it and then some. She didn't stop talking about it all day. The way the nuts dark chocolate and caramel meld into a delectable treat and how much she wanted more. Well, that and that we had to go back tomorrow so she could try try the Nutella and Bananas French Toast, sans bananas... So there's a home run for the winning team at Keke's. Our server, Kendal, may be one of the sweetest people I've ever met. She was having a day alright, but it never showed, and through it all, she kept us well taken care of and even brought me a coffee to go. Don't hesitate to ask for Kendal, what a doll! Thank you, @Keke's staff, for making our visit to Nashville so enjoyable!
Edit - Visit #2 - The next morning...
I decided to challenge the review I left prior. I wanted the proof in the pudding. I was not one bit disappointed. This time, same server, Mikala. Exceptional service! Please request a table with her. However, all of the wait staff are exceptional, polite, friendly, and go the extra mile to ensure you have an enjoyable visit. I asked Mikala what she recommended. She offered the Greek Omlete with fajita chicken added (pictured). I accepted the recommendation, without fail, it was delicious. The salty brine of the feta, the earthiness of the baby spinach, and the fresh acidity of the diced tomato all wrapped up and brought home with the grilled goodness of fajita chicken.... mmmm.... I almost ordered another to go for lunch later on. So, in my original post below, I said they deserve the reputation(really good) they have. I mean that, but now I believe they deserve that, and YOUR business. Come to Keke's frequently! I doubt you will ever be disappointed!
Visit #1
This place absolutely deserves it's reputation. Honestly, it's one of the best breakfast places I've been to. Fantastic food and more than helpful staff. While I was a bit concerned with the amount of time I had to wait for a server, it was apparent why... She had a 16 top sat in her section moments before I arrived. The situation rectified quickly after that. I actually had four or five different people taking care of me by the end of my visit. Coffee was very good. Cheese Steak Omelet (pictured) was superbly done with great, fresh, diced, green peppers and sweet white onion, a good portion of shaved steak, and of course, traditional white cheddar Will be back tomorrow and Saturday... I don't need anything else with their robust offering of breakfast and lunch options. PRO TIP - Order the sourdough toast with your meal. It will be cut in half and shaped like a heart when it arrives. Nice touch, chef! Will add more, along with pictures,...
Read moreAddressing our morning visit ~1130ish, Sunday Dec. 22! The food was absolutely amazing; but their seating procedures, kitchen management, and overall customer service needs significant improvement. Recommend call ahead or check status of their wait times before visiting.
When our family of five walked in, initially we were told that it would be 15-20 minutes, about 10 minutes later we were told that it would be between 45min to 1 hour. Over an hour later, we were still waiting, which normally wouldn’t be an issue if properly communicated or if the line was clearly moving, but there were at least 5 groups ahead of us. None of them were being seated although when we counted, there were at least 18 tables open, not at fault to the hostess, apparently she was told to not seat anyone. The kitchen was the clear point of issue/delays, you could see the frustration on some of the people already seated, and at some point I counted over 16 employees in there, most of them just standing around. Even after all this, when it was our time to be seated, with tables clearly open, the hostess sat the group behind us before, which we immediately addressed and were told that even then, we still needed to wait for a table of 5; I’m sitting there with 3 kids! Absolutely unacceptable.
Finally sat after waiting over 90 minutes. Our server was very diligent, acknowledge the kitchen issues, and expeditiously took our full order as soon as we sat. Again, food was delicious and appropriately sized.
At our time to pay, we asked if there was any consideration for the inconvenience; the manager never came to our table or addressed the groups waiting, but our server said that only the people that were already sitting, waiting for their food at the time of the delay were considered for a discount.
I do need to give the cafe credit for providing a military discount, thanks for your support to our military. We did notice that they do prioritize food delivery services or orders to go, and also of note, the hostess kept recommending customers to come back on Monday or Tuesday, several others also left. I’m sure this is not a normal incident, the place is highly rated, but our experience on this morning can only be summarized...
Read moreI just left my first visit to KeKe’s with my family, and unfortunately, I left very disappointed—mainly because of the customer service.
I ordered the 2-egg scramble bowl with grits and added bacon. I hadn’t eaten anything all day, so I was really looking forward to this being my first meal. While the food overall tasted fine, the eggs were cooked hard—completely overdone—despite me simply requesting scrambled eggs. The texture and flavor of the eggs overwhelmed the entire bowl, so I asked if I could have the dish remade.
Our server, Mikayla, came back and explained that it would take longer since they had to make fresh grits. As we’re getting our food after closing. I told her not to worry about it—as I didn’t want to eat much later than my family, who had already started their meals. She insisted, so I agreed to wait for the replacement.
When the new plate came out, the grits were undercooked—still hard and clearly rushed. Grits require time and care to prepare properly, and it was obvious they hadn’t been cooked long enough. When Mikayla returned to ask how the food was, I told her honestly that the grits were hard. She immediately raised her voice and said, “Oh my god, okay well I’ll get it taken off.” Then, from the kitchen—where we were seated nearby—I could clearly hear her raise her voice again, saying, “Well we have to get this taken off anyway,” followed by more inaudible remarks.
Up to that point, my experience was okay. But the way the situation was handled was completely unacceptable. A simple apology and a calm, professional response would’ve been appropriate. At the very least, a manager should have come out to check in or acknowledge the issue. But no one did.
This wasn’t a complicated order—just eggs, grits, and bacon bits. It was my first meal of the day, and I left frustrated and still hungry. I would like to return and actually try the food under better circumstances, but I sincerely hope the service is handled with more care and...
