Are you in East Nashville, and the thought of mouthwatering Cajun cuisine makes your taste buds dance with anticipation? Look no further than Spicy Boy's, the genuine Cajun gem born in New Orleans and established in 2021, right here in the heart of East Nashville. Our impromptu visit to this cozy eatery turned into a delightful surprise, and we're here to share our spicy adventure.
Upon stepping through the front door, you'll be greeted by a circular sign that proudly proclaims, "Spicy Boy's - Genuine Cajun Established 2021 - Born in New Orleans." With such a declaration, our expectations were set high, as we've had our fair share of authentic gumbo in the streets of the Crescent City. Spicy Boy's did not disappoint.
The gumbo here is a remarkable representation of its New Orleans roots. As connoisseurs of Creole and Cajun flavors, we can attest that the gumbo at Spicy Boy's is the real deal. A rich, flavorful broth served piping hot, it's filled with a medley of perfectly cooked seafood, sausage, and an aromatic blend of spices. It's a comfort food that warms the soul and transports you straight to the heart of Louisiana.
A pro tip: Don't forget to ask for a bottle of Crystal Hot Sauce, a quintessential condiment in New Orleans. A dash of this fiery elixir will infuse your gumbo with an extra touch of spicy authenticity, just like you'd find in the French Quarter. We ordered this fiery sauce to go, and it's the perfect companion for home-cooked meals when you crave a taste of the bayou.
While we can't vouch for the entire menu as we only sampled the gumbo on this occasion, the ambience and decor at Spicy Boy's are worth noting. The interior is adorned with various memorabilia that celebrate the culture, vibrancy, and uniqueness of New Orleans. Mardi Gras masks, jazz instruments, and colorful artwork adorn the walls, creating an inviting atmosphere that pays homage to the Big Easy.
As you explore the menu, you'll discover a range of dishes commonly found in the dining establishments of New Orleans. From jambalaya to po' boys, the choices are vast, ensuring there's something for every palate. If you're a fan of NOLA's signature cocktails, you'll find classics like the Sazerac and the Hurricane available at the small bar tucked away in the back of the restaurant.
For those who appreciate al fresco dining, Spicy Boy's offers leisurely patios with classic iron fencing reminiscent of NOLA's charming outdoor dining areas. These patios are perfect for enjoying your meal or a few drinks while basking in the East Nashville atmosphere.

Read moreFirst, I want to say this. As I read a lot of the comments, many think that "Gulf" Shrimp is suppose to be huge. But no where on the menu did it say JUMBO, which you can get in the Gulf. If price is your main concern, let me learn ya. In the "city", you'll pay around (give or take) the same price for less of a WHOLE Po Boy than that of what Spicy Boy's Offers, plus the further north of the "city", the more it costs for seafood so the pricing is not that bad for being north of the "water". The Po Boy was Top Notch--C'est Bon!
But, being that I am from the Gulf, lived "on the water", and spent many weekends at my Uncle Boudreaux's in the bottoms of Algiers quite often, I can't say the Gumbo was all that great. To me, there was no spicy about it but VERY salty... not ocean salty but Mortons salty. I understand that our food is about flavor not spicy but too much salt is not flavor. When you say spicy, especially in your name, you would expect the food to have a little heat at the least. To me, the roux in the Gumbo tasted burnt and bland, even with the large amount of salt. I did order to take some home though because authentic "home" food is hard to find here. I moved here to marry my Nashville Native Husband and have been here for over 10 years. Finding gems with my heritage is hard to find here. I miss my city and places like this, especially when the owners of these places are actually from my roots really help me out a lot and make me "happy" cry when I get a taste of home. Nevertheless, I can hook it up to my liking. Gumbo, Crawfish Boils, & Zydeco was our thing on Sundays. I get that different Cajuns have their own way of making their own delicacy but I feel it needs a little work. And, red beans and rice would be a little lagniappe to the menu.
As for the atmosphere, I truly love the Saints décor, as that is MY team along with the LSU Tigers. Still, if you're gonna fly an LSU flag, incorporate that into your décor too, as well as, flying a Saints flag with the LSU flag. I also feel that this place is more of a sports bar than a restaurant. I DO love the fact that I'll be able to watch my boys there as it's very hard to find them on local stations here unless they are prepaid or play the Titans. But, like LA being the Saints Nation, TN is Titans Nation so I can understand. I literally have to GOOGLE the Saints Schedule and put my husband in tons of grief to find a way to watch my boys so it's real hard for me to follow them here. So I'm very thankful to have a place I can run to.
As for service, the people are amazing and we did not have to wait long to get our food.
Guys, I do see great things in your future here and I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just offering my honest feedback and think that with a little work on the food, you'd be an amazing joint that's close by. The further north you go the less spicy people love. But do you, don't let that prevent you from sharing our love. You got this, I support and...
Read moreI really hate to do this but i can’t stop thinking about how bad the service was on 3/16 at 8p.
We walked in and sat down at the bar, immediately the bartender seemed to not really want to interact with us for whatever reason. At that same moment my friend noticed the bar in front of him was really sticky so I handed him some napkins, bartender looked directly at this and instead of bussing the cups and receipt from the previous guests and wiping the bar down, not a word was spoken to us for around 2 min, after witnessing this, the bartender spent a few minutes tapping thru screens and tabs but not actually running any, adding anything or making any drinks 🤔 and since we were directly behind them it was easy to tell. when they finally decided to ask us for a drink order, we got two beers and expected to be passed the food menu when they were dropped. Nope. Sets beers down and immediately turns around and spends another 3-4 minutes with their back turned to us, this time on their phone. still never bussed the area for us or asked if we wanted a menu… at that point my friend and i decided that we no longer wanted to eat there so we got the bartenders attention (we had to speak up since their back was to us) and got our tab for the two beers. We noticed as soon as they took our payment, they immediately went down to the other end of the bar and started interacting happily with a person that seemed to be a regular. It was very obvious to us there was no desire to give us attentive service and for that reason I had no desire to spend my money on their food, which is really good by the way. As we left we saw they were doing some kind of boil on the porch and discussed how much we would’ve loved to have tried whatever that was but since zero information was given to us by inattentive staff we were driving away instead. We ended up going to koré down the street and had an exact opposite experience. Lastly, I will say that i’ve been BOH industry for many years and this was just straight up bad service at a good restaurant as i’ve enjoyed the food here both previous times...
