We had high hopes for our stay with Locale at 18 McFerrin Avenue, but what we got was a loud, grimy, poorly maintained unit.
From day one, we were kept up by the unit above us: stomping/running, dragging furniture, shouting—at all hours. After multiple complaints, we were told no one was staying above us. So either the building’s haunted or someone’s gaslighting us. Neither option is ideal.
The dishwasher was broken and would shut off after only 5-10 minutes, no matter the setting. But that isn’t the kicker: it seems the cleaning staff are unaware of this and all the bowls and cups that were laid out for our use were actually crusted over due to the incomplete washing the dishwasher provides. Unfortunately, we didn't realize this until after spending two days trying to figure out why the dishwasher isn't cleaning the dishes...and then realizing that we have been drinking out of cups and using plates with the same crust on them. Quite the unpleasant revelation. I ended up hand-washing every single plate, bowl, cup, and piece of silverware just to feel remotely comfortable using the kitchen.
When we reported it, the local rep offered to stop by and drop off new plates and “check out” the dishwasher? I had already cleaned everything myself and didnt want to host potentially multiple visits from repair people during our stay. More frustratingly, this clearly wasn’t a sudden issue. It was evident the dishwasher had been malfunctioning before we arrived—and yet no one had checked or done anything about it.
The towels were stained. The in-unit washer/dryer seemed just as questionable. The bathroom light, and the loud groaning fan that accompanies it, would turn on by itself consistently throughout the day and night. All of this was reported. Little (nothing?) was resolved. We left early and requested a refund for the nights we didn’t use—were told the request was being expedited, but that was about a week ago now with no update.
In short: if you’re paying for comfort, cleanliness, and peace of mind, look elsewhere. This place didn’t deliver on any of...
Read moreWe were told ahead of time that we could pay $25 for garage parking. After arriving, we realized the garage was tiny and full. They also have an extra parking lot about 2 blocks away. Their extra lot was also full. The company responded quickly to my questions about parking but told me that its “first come first serve” for parking and advised me to go to other lots in the area. The closest lot was next to a shady liquor store and the spots were mostly filled by u-haul trucks. After watching a man leave the liquor store and check all the truck doors and then enter an unlocked truck he found, I decided to keep looking. The second closest place they recommended was pretty far away and was a restaurant parking lot. I didn’t like that option either, so I drove in circles for over an hour looking for street parking and hoping one of the garage or lot spaces would open. I have previously worked as a valet and I have experience driving in big cities like Chicago and New York, but I could not find a safe place to park within a reasonable walking distance on this busy Saturday night. After becoming frustrated, I decided to go to a hotel with garage parking. The Eighteen offered no discount or refund on the booking even though we were not able to use it. If you go on a quiet night and parking is available, I’m sure you will enjoy the apartment well enough. But if you need to park, there is a small chance you will have a terrible experience and the property managers will respond to you but offer very little in the way of helpful advice or any kind of refund if you are unhappy. I recommend Waymore’s Hotel instead. It was way more better...
Read moreThe building is brand new but very cheaply done (my brother is an interior designer but we could ALL). Location is 7 mins from downtown but not safe to walk at night. You will Uber everywhere. There are 2 bars nearby where locals congregate. Can get noisy at night but nothing unbearable. No close by CVS/Walgreens/and the grocery store is a 10-15 min walk (which is not convenient when holding bags).
With a new build comes pros and cons.
PROS: very modern layout. Very spacious 2x2. EXTREMELY responsive team on call 24/7. Like exceptional! Smart TV, lots of pots, pants and plates — great for cooking if you buy cooking spray and essentials.
CONS: Half the lights would not turn on when we first arrived. Immediately called response number that quickly relocated us to another unit in the same building. That was good.
The toilet clogged because there was “something stuck”. No plumber could fix it on the weekend, so we were bound to one toilet for 2/4 days. The shower turned colder by the 3rd person. The mattresses are extremely firm, couch is quite uncomfortable. Lots of towels which was nice.
All in all it served its purpose. Spacious layout for 3 people (me, my dad, and my bother). If you just need utility this is it.
I will say though, the response team was incredible. Mandy helped us the whole way though even though some issues were outside of her control. Response team deserves 5 stars, the actual place should get 2.5 with the unresolved issues...
