I love this new neighborhood establishment. It has a lot of character, a massive back patio, and it is located in a cute old house turned into a restaurant. The house was previously a restaurant prior to them moving in, but it has been maximized in the best way possible.
My hair stylist, Emaline, is a bartender here. She works at BBC Salon in the day and here by night. She is a great bartender and is able to multitask really well. That was apparent while maintaining the bar, but also serving up drinks for the waiter who was focused on the patio patrons. We saw Kevin, the owner, come out a couple of times as well. He was manning the kitchen.
Kevin is one who has a lot of accolades behind him. He has been on the Travel Channel, Food Network, has a couple of cook books out, and is a well renowned chef. Granted, I did not know any of this prior to meeting him tonight. I feel like I should have being that he is a kind of a big deal in the food world. He was nice.
What I think you will like about this place: No price gauging. What you see is what you get. All glasses will range from $6 to $15 a glass. House wines taste good!
Knowledgable staff. Everyone knows what they are doing here plus they offer warm hospitable personalities.
They have a good variety on the food menu. Now, as of this review, they have been open for six days. Things are working out well thus far, but tweaking is bound to happen as they learn the ins and outs of what does and does not work. I tried the truffle fries and enjoyed them. I will need to come here for a proper dinner. They have some decent offerings and the patrons next to me were enjoying their meals.
Easy to park. Park on the side street or on the front of the building. No qualms about finding anything, but a Thursday night out is different than a weekend. Use your best judgment.
Your neighborhood bar. This place is not trying to be something its not. They are focused on the neighborhood feel more than trying to be some hip place that draw in the tourists. Though tourists might find their way here and are welcomed, the focus is on the neighborhood it is surrounded by. East Nashville.
In conclusion, I really hope to see this place thrive. I think they have something to offer and I look forward to see them grow...
Read moreWe went here on a Saturday night with our friends around 6 PM. There were 4 of us and we managed to grab a table given that it was packed. It wasn’t very clear what kind of service was offered (self serve at the bar or table side), but we eventually ordered at the bar.
The food was great. We ordered some steaks, their famous brussel sprouts which were indeed very good, some fries, and the prosciutto plate. We also shared a bottle of wine amongst our table. All the food came out piping hot and was all delicious. We had no complaints.
The only thing that threw us off was after about 10-15 minutes when we didn’t know to order at the bar or wait for a server at the start of our visit , an employee came over to our table and told us to order all of our food at once and then close it out immediately. This was due to them only having one bartender that night. While we didn’t mind doing this, it was very off-putting. We felt like we were being forced to order and then leave. We felt rushed.
Overall it was a good experience. We do not think we’ll be back given our off-putting experience. It’s a good place to grab a quick drink but did not feel like it was an inviting place to eat and hang out with friends for...
Read moreVan Gogh’s has quickly become my favorite spot in East Nashville for a casual date night with my fiancée. The owner, Kevin, is super nice, will talk you through their entire menu and drink selection, and is extremely knowledgeable about wine (think he said he trained all over Europe?). Kevin is a well renowned chef, and has obviously great taste, and it shows here in spades. They have wines, small batch craft beers, and ciders from all over the US that you won’t find anywhere else in Nashville, their house sangria is excellent, and I’ve never had anything bad on the menu. The sausages that they don’t get locally are flown in from Colorado and are wonderful (the boar is my favorite). The environment is super welcoming, their back patio is huge and dog friendly, and they have live music on the weekends. We’ve been going once a week since it opened, and plan on continuing to do so. Van Gogh’s is an awesome addition to the neighborhood, and I can’t...
