Been coming here since I've been a little kid. I've always appreciated this little family-run shop.
Pros: The ice cream here is absolutely fantastic. The sherbet is light and flavorful, the other milk-based flavors explode with tastes you probably were not aware could be made into ice cream in the first place.
The tables are super cool, they replicate really old newspaper ads. Want to buy an artificial wood arm for 25 cents? This table's got ya.
Cons: As you can probably figure, the prices here are expensive! If you have a family of 4 plan to spend over $20 easily. In fact, if you have a family you're better off buying a tub of ice cream at your local supermarket for $5 that'll last you 10 times as long. The portions are not generous either, you get a standard-sized scoop, but what you do get is going to take you to a little slice of heaven each time you take a bite/lick. This is strictly a place to go to treat yourself on occasion.
Notes: As I mentioned it's family-run, and I like being able to support my local businesses. I'd probably go more often if it wasn't so pricey but I'm not sure if they'd actually want more volume, they tend to specialize in quality over quantity. No stars off since this is their...
Read moreCame here hoping for some super kick ass ice cream. Read various articles in their shop saying how they make ice cream the old fashion way that gives it that creamy texture and amazing taste. The place has no ac....kinda weird for a ice cream shop don't ya say? So inside was like 80+ degrees at around 7PM and when we got our ice cream it literally melted faster than we can eat it. Just not a good thing at all for a shop that sells things COLD. Tried a couple flavors and did not really love it besides the banana which is REAL banana flavor. I had a hard time choosing another flavor because there wasn't anything I felt strongly about really. The technique you can taste it really well and the hardwork put into each ice cream batch but the flavor was just okay. Not great or not bad but just okay. I really wanted to love this after getting hyped by the reviews, creation process and articles but it just didn't do it for me.
Combined with eh fact that my ice cream melted in about 3 minutes, I was not a happy camper. The three stars is for the banana ice cream but I just didn't like the rest...
Read moreNiederfrank's is a National City Institute. It has been business for years. It mainly sells ice cream but does have limited pies. The ice cream is made locally (I think in the back of the store). The ice cream is very smooth and creamy because of the ingredients they use. They have a large selection of flavors, like Pineapple Mango, Salted Caramel, Strawberry Cheesecake, Cookie Dough, Chocolate, Vanilla, Golden Pistachios, and the list goes on and on. I think they have 50 or more flavors. They have malts, shakes, and Sundays and will make them using any flavor you choose. It is a small store front with no seating inside . There are a couple of tables outside in front. The employees are very friendly and will provide taste samples if asked. Prices are good. I always get 4 or 5 half gallons when I stop by. The ice cream holds up great in the freezer at home. There are some restaurants next door or within a block of Niederfrank's. Parking can be an issue as there isn't a parking lot. The street parking can fill up due to the other businesses in the area. I...
