After living in Amman for 6 months when I stumble upon falafel or shawarma I have to give it a shot. For those wondering what shawarma and falafel is, it is middle Eastern or Mediterranean street food. In Amman shawarma is cheap and everywhere. Typically $1-2 per wrap. It is served beef, chicken or lamb with sauce and salad type veggies. Sauces varies but it is generally creamy with cucumber or similar. Sort of like ranch but thinner consistency.
Mother Falafel is a nice place. Looks very similar to most small shops in Amman. Veggies on display like subway, meat behind and next to the grill, vat for fries and falafel. Simple and clean. It is bigger than the typical local Jordanian place.
Menu is simple. Wrap or plate. Choose falafel only, shawarma only, combo. Bread is fluffy rather than more flat but it is good. Skip the rice. It is dry and doesn't add flavor. Hummus is creamier than I recall but good. I didn't get much olive oil flavor from it which I miss. Sharma was chicken and just as I remember chicken. Never my favorite, tends to dry out but still flavorful. I didn't see or offered lamb or beef. Guess they only have one type of meat.
Pickles and peppers were just as I remember and one of my favorite parts. Plenty of tomatoes, onions and lettuce. All fresh chopped. They didn't have whole peppers but rather a pepper type relish in green or red. I had green which was good. Could have been spicier.
Falafel on the #11 is 3 small balls. It was good but I wouldn't say outstanding.
Tahini sauce was a bit plain. I like a bit more flavor.
Fries are fries. I'd like more fries and skip the rice if I had my choice.
Price - $10 for the big plate is reasonable I think. Certainly not as cheap as Jordan but this is Vegas. For $10 I was very happy with the food overall. Cheaper options for smaller meal if you just want a pita pocket or wrap.
Recommended. Attached a copy of the menu but prices were different in store. I can't compare it to other places in Vegas but if you are nearby give it a try....
Read moreI must say the food at Mother falafel is excellent. Fresh and delicious. I tried the falafel pita and the chicken shawarma wrap. Again the food is really good. Why am I am giving it 2 star? Because the owner charges $9.99 for a falafel wrap for pick up and $14.99 for delivery. Similarly, the owner charges $12.99 for a chicken shawarma wrap for pick up and $18.99 for delivery. So, if I want to have these 2 items delivered via Uber eats, the price before tip is $45.79. Are you kidding me? I understand quality “to go” packaging can cost $1.00 per item, but Mother Falafel uses tin foil and a plastic marketing bag. No plastic container, no lid, just a plastic bag from the market and a wrap rolled in tin foil. How in the world do they justify adding $5.00 and $6.00 dollars per item? Uber already charges a delivery fee and an additional fee that reads “basket size”. I find it ridiculous and out right thievery for Mother Falafel to add over 30% to each item. I order delivery via Uber and DoorDash at least 4 times a week. Some restaurants do add a 1 or 2 dollars per menu item to cover the packaging, but this is NOT the case with Mother Falafel. They are doing it to rob you. I regularly order Black Bear Diner. All there entrees are 1 to 2 dollars more on the menu and the delivery apps. That is because the food is delivered in high grade packaging with a lid. I have no issue paying for quality packaging. I do have an issue paying and extra 5 or 6 dollars for tin foiled and a plastic marketing bag. Uber eats already charges a delivery fee and additional surcharges, as well as a well deserved tip for the driver. I wish the owner would reconsider the crazy up charge for delivery, especially since now they are open 24 hours for delivery. Mother falafel should take advantage of its delivery business. It’s a great way for restaurants to create an additional revenue stream. But, do NOT do it on your...
Read moreActual Rating 3.6 ⭐️ This is the 1st time visiting this restaurant. And for a 1st time visit the food was good. I’d like to come back to get a better idea.
Atmosphere 4⭐️: This is an open layout with plenty of natural light during the daytime. With a rustic barn wood on walls. Other walls allow for clean marker graffiti which I think is cool. But these walls do look rather plain. They should embellish with a graphic above the graffiti in my opinion. You order your food they way you would order from a Subway. Tell them the main dish then add ingredients down the line. I like this way of ordering for fast food.
Cleanliness: 4⭐️ very clean from what I could see and generally they are cleaning the tables off pretty quickly. I did not venture into the bathrooms but I should have. I like to gage a restaurants cleanliness on their bathrooms.
Service: 3⭐️. Middle of the road. The service wasn’t bad, but wasn’t outstanding. The employees did not seem extremely friendly but they weren’t rude by any means. The food was ready pretty quick.
Food Quality & Taste: 3.5⭐️ I had the falafel pita. And it was good based on my 1st visit. My friend had the same and he ordered French fry side and those were good.
Price/value: 3.5⭐️ The portion isn’t huge but nothing too small. I cannot complain at all. The price is on par with other restaurants of this type.
Summary: a good experience. I would like come back, and probably will to get a...
