Read moreLike most foodies, I'm always on the hunt for some delicious fried goodness and The Codfather definitely delivered.
The establishment was very clean and inviting. It was a positive experience to see all the tables full and a bit of a like when arriving, I don't mind waiting for something that's going to be fantastic. I will saw that the gentleman taking the orders was also helping build the orders and bringing them out to the customer. All while keeping his composure AND being very friendly and positive! We waited about 10 minutes to order and another 10 or so to receive our food. Mind you, all orders are being cooked fresh as they're ordered and that will definitely show in the freshness of the food.
We ordered two of the Cod and Chips, one with mushy peas and the other with gravy and a clay chowder to share. Orders come with Tartar sauce, Ketchup and malt vinegar. The portions of the fish were substantial. I got a very large piece and my wife received 2, both flaky and delicious. The fries were freshly cut and thick, perfect! I had never eaten gravy with my fish so for me, it was a very pleasant experience. The Tartar sauce seems to also be made in house and made perfectly. The clam chowder was good, a little thick for my liking but it definitely has potential. Nice flavor and good sized pieces of clam. Mushy peas were a miss for me, I love peas but these needed some seasoning. I added a little table salt and it still was lacking in my opinion.
Overall The Codfather delivered right from the start. Clean establishment, pleasant customer service and...
Read moreThis is a review that is long overdue, for a restaurant that has fought hard to survive, then thrive in a volatile market during difficult times. The first thing you should do when you get to the counter here, is take a moment to share a few words with the owner. Consistently across years of visits he has been cheerful, talkative, and humorous, even brief exchanges leave a positive impression and he is as much a part of the experience as the quality food he, and his staff, serve.
If you find yourself here, you clearly had a craving for fish and chips and the core of the menu addresses just that with Cod, Haddock, and Catfish. The Haddock is my go to, it is a large portion, easily shared if two have smaller appetites, and is served over a bed of wonderfully prepared chips. The Cod is likewise delicious in its own right. If you need to spruce up your meal with some variety, there is an array of unique sides to augment the experience from spam fritter to pickled onion. The flavors and quality have repeatedly met expectations.
The shop is small, but is very clean and well decorated with the owners friendly attitude and humor displayed throughout from a small TARDIS from Doctor Who to the available store shirts with fun phrases such as Cod Save The King.
This is a must in Clark County for...
