Went on a date here & had dinner. We ordered the crab fries and when we got them they weren't even hot. The cheese wasn't melted and they were somewhat soggy. Got the grilled shrimp mango tacos which were really good. After dinner my date went out to smoke. The security guard was outside the door and there were 2 inside which we walked in upon arrival and sat at a table next to where they were standing. When he went out to smoke and turned to come back in the security guard noticed a pocket knife my date had attached to his pocket. The guard got nasty and told him he'd have to leave. He told him he had a date inside and had to pay the bill. When my date came in and told me what was going on the guard from outside rushed in and again with a very bad attitude told him he'd have to go. Mind you my date hadn't said or done anything that would be considered threatening. The waitress knew us and tried to vouch for us and she wasn't heard at all. Apparently after they stop serving food and the entertainment starts up front you've got to have a wrist band on. We arrived before that time and there wasn't anything posted inside or outside to inform anyone of their rule. It was a pocket knife & he'd shown no aggression towards anyone. One of the 2 guards we'd walked and sat by upon our arrival asked who'd let us in and I told him he did. The whole situation was screwed up and I realize when mixing alcohol and entertainment there's always a chance it can go south. I see the need for rules but I also know there's no need for coming at someone spending money at there establishment to behave in such a rude and ignorant way! He sounded like he had a British accent. Perhaps his rudeness is the norm from where he's from but he's not in the UK anymore and his crappy attitude needs to be adjusted considerably! Needless to say I'll not go back & I doubt my date will ever go back either. There's not enough light to even see the menu and they play the music so loud you can hardly hear who you are with. Not...
Read moreWe have been here several times and I want to like it but our last few experiences have not been great and honestly after tonight I’m not sure we will be back. My son was in town for a visit so we went for some drinks , music and food. We waited more than a half hour, probably closer to an hour, for someone to acknowledge us (I counted 2-3 servers) after seating ourselves as directed by the sign upon entering before finally going to the bar to get our own drinks. (The place was somewhat busy but the ppl there were obviously there to enjoy the music and had been there and once the music ended they left.) After once again, getting our own second round we finally got the attention of a server and ordered some apps. He walked away before we could ask for a round let alone lord forbid he asked if we would like anything else. When our food arrived it was dropped off and the server again never asked if we needed anything. We continued to get our own drinks from the bar where there was a single bartender taking care of multiple customers on her own as well as having to leave the bar to retrieve food for those customers. SHE did a great job. The band finished and most of the patrons left and still we sat there now waiting for a bill which finally was dropped off. While my son attempted to go to the bar to get one more round (the bartender was finally getting a much deserved break) he dealt with the server, who when he ordered drinks asked if he wanted to pay for the apps we ordered. One drink was forgotten so my son’s gf returned to bar to get the drink and again was asked if she wanted to pay for apps. The server never returned to our table to ask if we needed change or a card run but I’m not surprised by this at all since he seemed to not want to deal with us at all during our time there. I now understand why this establishment is continually...
Read moreI give this place five stars for ambience.… Most importantly, that it was quiet. There was music playing that was soft in the background. Although there were more than a dozen TVs in the place, I don’t think any of them had the volume turned up. My friend and I could actually sit and have a conversation! What a surprise in this day and age! 🙀Especially for a sports bar. The decorations in it really played up the Black Beard and pirate theme, even the bathroom, where there was a lot of wood paneling that looked like it might’ve come right off an old pirate ship.
The wait staff was very friendly and personable. I’m sorry I didn’t get her name, but she gave us a lot of attention and checked back with us often.
The only real downside was the food. I ordered the mushroom and Swiss burger medium rare. She said they normally have the mushrooms inside and could not cook it medium rare because of that. If I wanted it medium rare I would’ve had to get the cheese and mushrooms on the outside of it. I decided since I was visiting, I would go for something new and eat it the way they cooked it. I told her I did not want it dried out. Unfortunately, it was dried out. I think I ended up leaving at least a third of it on the plate. My friend and I split an order of fried pickles that was excellent except for just a bit too much salt. The garlic mashed potatoes were really good I could’ve used a bit more butter. And, I could’ve asked for more but just never got around to it.
I will definitely go back to this place the next time I’m in New Bern. I know now to order the burger the way I like it and extra butter for the potatoes. I highly...
