Fast forward 8 years…my review below is what we were hoping for on a recent visit. Sadly, the food quality has degenerated greatly. We had a large party for dinner, which I know can be challenging, but actually our waitress (I believe she was Michelle) was excellent, so it wasn’t her fault. I got chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce again. This time, tasteless. The chicken tasted like very poor, flavorless quality and the sauce had literally no taste. The refried beans were ok. The rice was terrible-dry, not much seasoning and more like couscous texture. My son in law, who grew up on authentic Mexican food, said it seemed to be canned rice. None of my mediocre food was hot, including the queso appetizer. No one in our party was impressed with their food. The salsa was too spicy for me, but those who can handle spicy food liked it. I heard the margaritas were good from one in our group. Overall, tho, it was a very disappointing experience. I’ll add a photo of my recent unimpressive meal. Prices went up, quality went way down. I don’t often leave such a bad review, but it was just so bad that I had to share our experience. Hoping it was a rare night with kitchen staffing problems, but we won’t risk going again. What a contrast to 8 years ago.
*Previous review from 8 years ago: There were 3 of us for lunch today, and we all got something different. We were all completely impressed! What a find! Best sour cream sauce ever! The tortilla soup looked so hearty...no skimping here. I hardly touch Mexican rice, but that was surprisingly tasty. Even the tea was great, and what the heck - $1.99 margaritas! Can't beat that. Great ambiance! This is a family owned restaurant. We're moving to New Braunfels next week, and now we have a favorite restaurant in...
Read moreWe love this place and the food! We’ve never went at lunch time and idk if this makes a difference but we decided to go around 3:30 today. Our waitress wasn’t very welcoming but those kinds of waitress never really bother me. As long as they get my food right I’m happy. I ordered fajita quesadillas like I ALWAYS do. Cause to me they have the best fajita quesadillas in town! However I got mine and the meat was shredded and very salty. It was like they were using leftover meat from the day before, which is whatever but not when it doesn’t taste good. It tasted like brisket quesadillas. Which isn’t what my taste buds wanted. I asked the waitress if it was beef and she said yes. Then I continued with well can you just take it off I won’t eat it because I get it every time and it is just so different this time. I was nice about it and proceeded to tell her I know it’s not your fault and I’m not mad but I just don’t wanna pay for it cause I’m not gonna eat it. She then said no I can’t, in a very ugly way. I then told her well you can have your manager come over here then because I won’t be paying for that plate I took one bite out of. She came back with the check and the meal was taken off. I’m not usually picky about food but I’m not gonna pay for something that I expected to be just as good as last time and it isn’t. Anyways good place but I think they need to communicate better. Rather than not being apologetic or helpful. Other than that I love this place and have never had a problem. Maybe it was just...
Read moreDon’t waste your time on Friday night, if you don’t know about the secret (regulars) reservation list. It’s in addition to the one Toast Waitlist that is used for everyone else that walks in the front door. Oh, and don’t try the waitlist offered on their website, they don’t use that anymore, either. There seems to be a management issue.
A few weeks back, I used the waitlist option from their website, only to get to the restaurant and be told they don’t use that system anymore. So, we waited another 30 minutes for a table.
This evening, 03.28.25, we arrived and were told it would be a 25-35 minute wait. Okay, I was good with that wait. As time passed, we watched on the Toast Waitlist link, as tables were seated, and we moved up the list. Around 4 tables in front of us, we stalled. We had waited over 35 minutes, and our wait time was now at zero minutes. Still, we waited and watched tables get cleaned and seated. We moved up to two tables in front us. Then we watched a table of “regulars” that made a reservation, according to the GM, in the morning, on a system not available to others, get seated and we did not move up on the waitlist. After asking this GM about how this happened, he mentioned that it was not “favoritism”, a word we never mentioned. But, I think he said exactly what happened. I wanted to support local…..but I guess this isn’t the local...
