Sweet Bites by Lizzie — Restaurant in New Braunfels

I recently ordered in person a 2 layer custom cake from this shop and was very clear and detailed about what I wanted—specifically a cake with blue, light yellow, and crème colors, with detailed floral decoration. While the cake tasted great and was pretty overall, it was not what I asked for. The flowers lacked detail, and the “blue” icing was clearly purple. When I kindly pointed out that it didn’t match my reference photo or the colors I requested, the response was incredibly disheartening.

Except for the friendly woman (only she apologized, even though she did not decorate my cake) who usually greets customers, the rest of the staff were dismissive and rude. One decorator rolled her eyes at me when I showed her the reference photo, which felt especially ironic given the “treat people with kindness” sign in their shop. I understand that custom cakes won’t always be identical to a reference image, but I was told they could match the colors and detail, that clearly wasn’t the case.

When I expressed my confusion over the color, the decorator condescendingly told me it was “periwinkle” and implied I didn’t know the difference between that and blue. Her tone was unnecessarily sharp, and I had to pause to keep the conversation respectful. I said that I had shown them my color references and just wanted to understand why it looked so different. Rather than addressing my concerns professionally, they were visibly annoyed and I could hear them in the background sounding very upset at my ask.

I wasn’t angry I even asked if it would be possible to simply add blue flowers to fix the issue (they did) and complimented their work. But the way the situation was handled made me feel belittled and unwelcome. I know this shop is capable of beautiful work. This was my second time getting a cake from them. It was beautiful and so detailed! Which is why I chose them in the first place, but this experience left me incredibly disappointed. This negative review is not only about the decoration on the cake but mainly about how I was treated.

We had Lizzie make our wedding cakes and not only were they just delicious and amazingly crafted, but Lizzie takes so much time and care to work with her customers to make sure she creates exactly what they are looking for.

We had a complicated design going in, and she just nailed it. She also took great care of my custom made topper, and also laid out all pricing in front of us. It’s a small thing but adds a lot of comfort in the process in knowing exactly how everything looks price wise.

From our cake tasting to our final meeting before, Lizzie was always welcoming and kind to us and was able to work our schedules to the best of our ability.

I definitely recommend Lizzie for any bakery needs, and I am sure we will work with her again in the future for anniversaries/birthdays/cookie needs.

Very easy and smooth process to order. We talked over the phone and I sent her an inspo photo of what I wanted. The cake came out so cute! I also want to add I picked this cake up on a Saturday for a Sunday. I was nervous because I was worried the cake would be dry after being in the fridge. I say that because the last cake I ordered from a very well known bakery came out beautifully, but I could not say the same to taste. This cake looked amazing and tasted amazing.
