We tried Dos Rios a couple times the year they first opened. Were disappointed enough we didn't return for a couple of years. Decided to give them another try 9 months ago. Took a really long time to get our food, but were pleasantly surprised. Went again a month later and had a very poor experience AGAIN. Food took way too long and when it was brought to the table, it was not what we ordered. Gave them one more chance when my son chose Dos Rios for his birthday dinner. Service was excellent, food was excellent and drinks were excellent. FINALLY! A nearly perfect experience. Have been back another half dozen times in the past 4-5 months. (Only because our long time favorite Mexican restaurant is no longer an option). The service has continued to be VERY inconsistent. It has been VERY slow every time. Drinks are always good but it takes at least 20 minutes (sometimes longer) to get your order from the bar. The service is slow to almost nonexistent because there are nowhere near enough servers for the size of the restaurant. This is not the server's fault. And our order has been mixed up at least twice more in the past 6 visits. Last night's experience was pretty much the deal breaker for us. Were seated more than 10 minutes before server stopped by, the chips were literally dripping grease, took more than 20 minutes for margarita to arrive from the bar, and about 40 minutes for the food to arrive (nachos and a 2 enchilada plate). The enchilada plate was not even luke warm and the ground beef on the nachos was burnt to a crisp. The server was so embarrassed that, without us voicing a single complaint, she had the manager comp our meal. This poor girl was working her rear off, but was stretched WAY TOO THIN. We left her a nice tip because we felt this situation had nothing to do with her skills but EVERYTHING to do with very poor management. If you know that you do not have enough wait staff, bartenders, and cooks to serve a full restaurant, then you DON'T fill every table. This is poor management. I do recognize that we are living in a post pandemic/quarantine world and this is common place throughout the restaurant industry nation wide right now - BUT - management MUST recognize this and adjust their management of the situation. It is NOT business as usual! No more Dos Rios for us! P.S. Our favorite Italian restaurant has worked through these issues and are operating better than ever. And, yes, their prices have gone up slightly, but we gladly pay the difference for the excellent service and excellent food! It can...
Read moreTasty food, yummy drinks! We LOVED it all! We went with another couple on Saturday night - they made the reservations and boy were we blown away! We had been working in the house all day when our friends asked if we wanted to go for dinner, having not heard of Dos Rios I was not very excited but said yes, excited that we could have a reservation and be guaranteed a table. (We've tried to eat dinner on a weekend in New Braunfels before and it was not a good experience) Anywho, we got there a little after 7pm and quickly found that JP was our waiter. He was great with recommendations once we told him that we had never visited before. We ordered margaritas and the guys had whiskey and cokes - the chips and salsa were never-ending - JP kept our table happy with fresh hot chips and never-ending supplies of salsa. The salsa was tasty with just enough heat. After a little bit we decided to add Bacon Guac and queso to our table as appetizer! WOW, the bacon guac was DELISH!!! Great flavor and the bacon really just kicked it up a notch! We took our time to place our order - our conversation, endless chips/salsa/bacon guac/queso and our adult bevies, had us happy!!!! Everything on the menu sounded good. After we had been there an hour or so we decided to place our orders. The guys got brisket enchiladas and I got the Plato Acapulco and my bestie got the Plato Monterrey. Shortly after placing our order our waiter JP came and told us that he had an issue come up and that he had to leave but that Destini (not sure of the spelling) would be taking over our table for him. She was just as attentive! Our food came out and BOY were we in for a treat. Everything was absolutely mouth-wateringly delicious! We were all in awe of how good it all tasted! We all shared bites of each others entrees and agreed that we can not wait to visit again! Sadly the only bad thing was that I didn't take a single picture of our food or drinks - ha, that's my own fault. All was great, seriously can't wait...
Read moreTruthfully if I could rate 0 stars I would... my family moved here a year ago, our son went to visit his grandparents this weekend so my husband and I decided to have a date night... we were seated after the hostess spoke to friends of hers (I assume) that came in after us... once seated there was no silverware or napkins on the table or drink menus (we were also seated in the very back of the restaurant, there was plenty of other tables and we got stuffed in a hole it was weird being in the back with no one else around maybe that’s why we were forgotten)... the waiter asked if we would like a drink or a beverage from the bar so we proceeded to tell him we had no menu for the bar and it was our first time here he said oh let me go get you one when he placed napkins on our table and leaned in he stepped on my toes(I was wearing sandals) I looked at him he walked off without apologizing.... we proceed to order our drinks my mango margarita tasted awful, we ordered queso it came out crusted over as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp and tasted like melted cheddar. My husband order chicken nachos and they were meh for the price, I ordered beef enchiladas and all I have to say is I could have got better from taco cabana (had to request silverware after food was brought out and someone filled up our water glasses). My enchiladas came out as the queso crusted over as if under a heat lamp and the tortilla was crunchy about half way through. By the time the waiter even came back my husband was finished with his meal and I was more than irritated and asked for the check so we could leave. $60 was way to much for the nasty food and service we received I could have got better from chili’s for half the price. Last time we come here...
