I’ve been a regular at this Starbucks for over a year. Many of the staff and managers know me by name, and I often come here to work remotely or enjoy my usual drink. Until now, I’ve always felt welcomed and respected.
On the afternoon of June 20th—ironically, just one day after Juneteenth—I came in to use the restroom (which I have the code for, as a frequent customer), then grabbed lunch from next door. After eating on the patio, I returned to the café to work on my laptop, something I do often.
Almost immediately after walking in, I was approached by a young Hispanic employee who asked if I would be making a purchase. When I replied that I wasn’t purchasing anything at that moment, I was told I would need to leave. He then brought over another young Hispanic man, who claimed to be the manager, and he repeated the same message, citing a policy that I’ve never once seen enforced here.
I tried to explain that I come here regularly, that many employees know me by name, and that I often buy drinks or just work quietly. Despite that, I was still asked to leave. I was not being disruptive, nor had I been given a chance to order through the app or at the counter.
To make matters worse, there is no signage anywhere in this store indicating that customers must make a purchase to sit inside. I visit many Starbucks across the DMV, including large locations throughout Washington, D.C., and have never seen such a sign posted. If this is truly store policy, it should be clearly displayed.
As a Black woman, this experience left me feeling singled out, disrespected, and deeply uncomfortable. The way I was immediately confronted and asked to leave, without the courtesy typically extended to regular customers, felt more like profiling than policy enforcement. I left feeling like I didn’t belong in a space I’ve supported for over a year.
I’m sharing this experience in hopes that Starbucks takes incidents like this seriously. All customers—especially regular ones—deserve to be treated with consistency, fairness,...
Read moreMy experience with Starbucks on Friday 12th 2025 was the worst. I absolutely despised what had happened. My group of 4 (including me) always come in and sit in the lobby as we think about what drinks to order. We always do this as we never get told to leave, until Friday. Not even 5 minutes after we sit down to think our choices, a lady came up to us and tells us to order a drink or else we will HAVE to leave because we can’t stay in the lobby. I kindly told the lady that we will order soon and honestly we were actually about to get up and order our drinks. She gave us attitude, had a clear expression of irritation plastered on her face. When she left us after giving that poor statement, she went behind the counter to her other co workers and talked about us, saying we were loud. To be clear, she said she always sees our group when we have NEVER seen her ever. If she has actually seen our group, she would know that we always sit down and think about what we want to order. There was never ever a time where we went in the establishment and didn’t order something. When we got up to order she was the one who took our order, I ordered a chai tall latte with vanilla cold foam and caramel drizzle. She asked to repeat myself, so I did. When I received my order, there was no caramel drizzle at all. When my friend ordered a drink/ the same one I ordered, he asked for a venti, but they gave him a grande. They still charged him for it, so when he confronted them about it, they lied. Saying they didn’t When they clearly did.
This USED to be my favorite place to get coffee from but I suppose not any more. Me and my group always have nice service here but those women that worked on Friday 12th 2025 at 1:40-3:00 pm Were not kind. I’ve tried reaching out to Starbucks but they always reply with the same copy and pasted sentence. Starbucks, do better...
Read moreI generally love this Starbucks (and trust me I’ve done my research) but Sunday I ordered a grande Caramel Machhiatto! My usual go to favorite drink. The first time it was delivered the driver dropped it. His pants and shirt were covered in coffee and he came to the door dripping coffee and the bag was French and he actually handed me the bag and told me the coffee broke!! I told him I wasn’t accepting it. He asked me what to do. I told him politely to go back to Starbucks and tell them what happened. I’m on a limited budget due to my disability (I’m fairly young and have been disabled since 1994! But I try not to let it get me down) so lately Starbucks has been a treat. Then I called Starbucks and told them. They said they could not do anything about it I had to call Uber! So I did and they said the order was still “live”. Then my doorbell rings and it’s a new Uber driver with my grande caramel macchiato! BUT and this I can’t believe from an organization like Starbucks, they used the same, yes, THE SAME CUP, to make my new drink. I looked at it and couldn’t believe it. 2 minutes later the bottom of the cup fell out all over my wood floors!!! Of course I called and they denied it! I just can’t believe it. Sooooo disappointed. The amount of money I have spent through my working career at Starbucks and never a complaints! Uuggghhhh. So...
