Food: its good, not bad, not great. Service: seems like others in the restaurant had good service but i randomly had terrible service. Atmosphere: “good.”
I said a lot in the next few paragraphs so here is a short version. - i go to food spots to eat, not to be treated like a king or prince. The food was ok as i said and i would go back, and no i would NOT expect good service. Poor service from two waiters who don’t seem like they know what rheyre doing doesnt stop me from ok food. I’m not a a food activist. Though i would suggest those two waiters to have a pen and paper to avoid simple mistakes as forgetting a customers coffee, or forgetting that they stood and personally asked for a lid - all while only serving like 10 ppl. Just write it down. Working for a family owned restaurant isn’t an excuse to treat a customer like the bad uncle.
Short version continued: I wrote this long and elaborate review only because at no point did the two waiters or the cook whom i assume is the owner apologize for all the things they missed that i had to keep asking for. They probably think i was being difficult. One way to explain what happened is via a review. Other patrons should know that while i don’t think my experience is typicaly, its possible at this establishment and since they didnt acknowledge it, i guess its normal? Idk. (End of short version)
I ordered the an omelette with coffee. Omelette came in like 10 mins which was great. I start eating it because I’m hungry and I’m assuming the coffee will come soon. Coffee didn’t come.
In the meantime, it started dawning on me that this place, atleast today or with me, was unprepared and unorganized. My food was kinda dumped on my table as the lady scattered to go look for utensils. Then the condiments. 5 mins later she wanted to grab the condiments and take them to a different table.
I had to remind someone to get me coffee. Which came, in a cup without a lid, which is also ok i guess. I realized the coffee may go cold quick so i asked for a lid. At this point I’m standing up to personally request these things because I’ve gotten the impression the service I’m getting just isn’t great and i don’t have the patience anymore to sit and wait.
After personally asking for the lid, i waited and waited and waited. Two servers were working, restaurant had maybe 10 patrons in that small restaurant. Somehow they forgot i asked for a lid, which takes 30 seconds to get. Instead i waited for 10 mins.
I got up again to personally ask for the lid. I got it.
At this point, I’ve made up my mind that i should probably get everything i need sorted out upfront so i ask for the check.
Somehow the receipt has a typo. Instead of $18, it says $13…i ask to clarify…so they say its a typo and that there is also a service charge (oh great! It wasnt too much). I pay and ask for a copy of my receipt because I’ve lost trust in the operations of this place.
One waiter gives the other one w receipt to give to me. As I’m receiving it, she retracts it, apparently its the wrong receipt. I cannot believe what I’m experiencing.
I get my receipt copy finally and go back to finish my food (yes, i paid for everything before finishing).
After this entire ordeal, that’s when the waiter asked me “how is everything going, do you need anything else” - its like an after thought: missed coffee, missed coffee lid, surprise service charge, wrong figures on the receipt, wrong receipt - AND NOW is when youre asking if everything is going well?? A voice told me to tell her to leave me alone. I asked for a...
Read moreWe live an hour from New Haven, so I was excited to try a new restaurant in the city. We did a google search and decided on Chaps Grille for breakfast. We walked in and were sat at a wobbly table. The waitress clearly noticed how unbalanced it was but didn’t care to address it. After she took our drink order we slid to the next table down. They had the door propped open and it was cold and windy. Everyone inside was wearing their jacket, you’d think the staff would notice customers weren’t comfortable and close it, but no. So we kept our jackets on. I’ve never had fried chicken and waffles and was excited to see it on the menu. I chose that. My fiancé chose Chap’s omelette. I had ordered an OJ and he ordered a chocolate milk. The drinks were bottled and served without glasses. When the food arrived I was excited to dig in, it looked great. I ate the eggs off the top first, delicious. Everything went down hill from there. The chicken was clearly store bought frozen fried chicken, cooked to the point of being rock hard, with poor flavor. I took one bite. The Belgium waffle was soft, lacking the crisp edges you hope for in a waffle and tasted like white bread, no sweetness at all. Terrible! The home fries were good, I got about four of them. The dish was a total let down. My finance enjoyed his omelette and offered to share with me, I agree his dish was tasty. When the waitress came over we requested our check and a box. She brought over the check along with a barcode for us to leave a review. We decided maybe we shouldn’t do a review as our experience wasn’t great. My fiancé paid cash and placed it right in the check holder. We headed to our car. The waitress then followed us outside and accused us of not paying. My fiancé said “we paid cash, it’s in the check holder..”. She walked over and grabbed the check holder and said “oh, thank you.” .. not “sorry” or “my mistake”. I then walked back in and scanned the barcode to leave a review. We obviously...
Read moreI decided to grab breakfast here after reading all the rave reviews.
I'm seated at a table and then I had to wait about 10 minutes before the server comes and takes my order, now it wasn't busy when I was there, probably about 3/4 of the tables were open. So I place my order, a bagel with home fries and a side of falafel with a coke to drink.
I must have waited at least ten more minutes before I even got my drink, I was skeptical about staying at this point. But my stomach overruled the logic part of my brain and I stayed.
My food then comes out which was a little strange to have a bagel to eat in wrapped up like a to go sandwich from a bodgea, especially since it was just a buttered bagel. At this point everything looks good, my falafel hasn't been dropped at my table yet but I'm hungry so I take a bite of the "homemade" bagel. I mean it's possible it was made there, but even so it was just blah, bland and rubbery. oh well I think to my self and try the home fries which were amazing! After a while the star of the show, the falafel, shows up. Excitedly I take a bite of it. It was very disappointing, it was over fried, hard, bland, and dry.
Perhaps I didn't order their specialties, so your milage may vary. But be prepared to spend a bunch. The food is quite expensive $3.50 for a bottle of coke. $6 for an order of home fries, $4 for a bagel, and $8 for falafel.
The service was dreadful, I got sick of waiting for my check so I just went up to...
