This used to be 1 of my favorite places for seafood, however they fell off. Not food wise but customer service wise. I came in on a busy day & waited an extremely long time only to find they never started cooking my order. Instead of an apology the guy behind the counter got angry with me & even said some inappropriate things in front of other customers when I asked for a refund. I came back on another date & this time the same guy gave my order to the wrong person. The person realized it wasn't what he ordered & brought it back. Instead of just making me a fresh sandwich the guy behind the counter asked me if I would take the sandwich that was brought back & of course I didn't/ this is covid time. I stayed away for about 8 months. Came back a 3rd time & the SAME guy behind the counter took my order wrong & rather than argue I accepted what he put on the ticket & when I got home the order was missing food that I payed for. I've been eating here as long as I can remember going back to the Grand Ave days & at this point they have permanently lost a customer. I have NEVER experienced this at Kevin's Seafood or Off the Hook Seafood. After 3 strikes with D'Amato's i won't be back. The food is very good but the guy taking orders can be an @sshole & needs customer service training. It's been real but I'm never coming back & I will tell of my experiences there to anyone...
Read moreToday 10/10/2020 i am from waterbury ct. I was told about d'amato fish. So i am from the old school. The fish fries at the church. And grandmom fish fries. So i ordered over the phone. I was told 20 mins. When i arrived it was a line of folk.. they had been waiting 20 mins. So i almost drove away. But i went and paid (which locks you in to wait) so i sat out on the bench.. i heard people complaining and upset with the wait! So i hoped my wait was worth it! YES! IT IS !! I ordered a box of fish. Then my name was called. I took bag and drove to home 40mins then i sat down open the box. The fish was cooler by now. So i got my fork and took a bite AND it was delicious fish.. not greasy or lack of fish for the money. You need to try D'AMATO ON WHALLEY AVE.. Yes! it is not in a great location.... They really should move to a more easy to park and comfortable place.. people will follow if they do!! I loved the fish.. would i return yes!! It is worth the wait and price is...
Read moreA commercial on WYBC for D'Amato's right at the time I was headed to Edge of the Woods to pick up something for lunch is what got me to this establishment. I live close to both but always forget about D'Amato's. I was pleasantly surprised as i hadn't been there in many years. The set up of the separate areas for dine in and take out works well. The atmosphere in both is inviting. One thing that probably stopped in the past from going there is the parking. There's only off street parking and sometimes that's even difficult. The service was good however and people friendly. Lastly the food. I got clams strips, hush puppies and fish. The clam strips were pretty good. They didn't give that grocery store clam strip vibe. Now the hush puppies I could live off of those! Crunchy on the outside , seasoned and light. I wasn't impressed with the fish. It was nicely breaded and crunchy but I'd find parts of the filet that were just that with little to...
