Written following a visit in May of this year:
It makes me sad to write this review. I arrived with my partner about an hour ago with the excitement of trying a place that was new to us, and in the neighborhood.
We entered the restaurant, and asked if we could eat outside. The individual operating the point-of-sale was friendly, and said that we could do so, that our server would be right with us. The weather was slightly overcast, and the server joined us almost immediately outside, stating that it was going to rain soon, and that the awning was insufficient and leaked, seemingly encouraging us to leave. We said we didn’t mind, that we would make it work, and he disappeared inside.
One of the tables, positioned beneath a window slightly ajar, appeared perfect for the two of us (the only two-seater outside the restaurant). And since there didn’t appear to be a clear organization to the tables outside the restaurant, we moved the two seater slightly farther from the entrance and took our seats.
The server then reappeared and stated that they needed the table for takeout, mentioning that we had “re-appropriated” the table from their takeout window. Fine. No harm, no foul. We found another table positioned close to the awning, and moved it in slightly to avoid the drizzle, then sat down.
The server reappeared to take our orders, and we asked whether there were any vegan options on the menu. He stated that we could order any meatless pie without cheese, but that that was the extent of the options. He proceeded to intimate that we needed more time, and that he would return, and I asked for the appetizers that we had already identified as fitting our dietary constraints.
He left the table to put in the order, returning some time later, and we asked for the vegan sandwich that we had since located on the menu. By this point in the interactions, the server had misgendered me twice, and I made my request for the sandwich with a noticeable frustration.
The server questioned, “are you gonna be alright, man?” My response: “excuse me?”
Server: well, you’re just sitting with your arms crossed and your attitude seems weird.
My response: “well, you’ve misgendered me three times, and, frankly, it doesn’t seem like you want us here.”
I was shocked to have my “attitude” criticized, and my partner and I had both grown extremely uncomfortable with the situation.
The server returned a couple of times, once with food, and once, shortly after delivering the food, to see whether we wanted boxes for the food. On a third visit to our table, very shortly after the “check in,” the server brought a box and the check, stating that we could take care of our bill at the register inside. We hadn’t asked for the check, nor for a box.
Overall, the experience was extremely upsetting. We did not feel welcome. Quite the contrary: we felt targeted and rushed out. I cannot recommend this place in good conscience, especially for diverse clientele. Though I will say that the individual operating the point-of-sale was kind and empathic. I paid, but...
Read moreMy wife and I, along with our three year old son, went to One6three yesterday around 5:45. I ordered a Clams casino pizza, my wife got a gluten free brussel sprout pizza (bacon on the side), and we got an order of mac and cheese with plain chicken for our son. When placing the order, I noticed the screen said buffalo chicken instead of plain chicken, so I mentioned the error to the guy - he said he'd make sure to tell them to do plain instead. My wife's pizza came out first. We didn't notice immediately, but they forgot the bacon on the side, not a big deal. Thankfully it wasn't on the pizza (wife is a vegetarian), and it was also cooked on tin foil as we requested (she has celiac disease). A couple minutes later the mac and cheese with chicken comes out, but there's buffalo sauce all on top. The guy said that was their last order of mac and cheese, so they couldn't remake it with plain chicken. He offered to make something else instead, but my boy's heart was set on mac and cheese, so I salvaged some plain areas since he doesn't like buffalo sauce. I mentioned the side of bacon and he brought it out a few minutes later. About 25 minutes after we got our first dish, I went back inside to ask him to box up my Casino pizza to go since it hadn't come out yet, and my family was done eating by then. He apologizes and tells me that they're out of clams and that they, in fact, never made my pizza. Again, he offered to make something else, but I said forget it, and just asked for a refund. I had already paid when I placed the order, and left a tip of $11 on $65. I feel like that's a very generous tip since it's not a sit down and be waited on type of restaurant - you order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. He refunded the cost of the pizza, but there was no option to amend the tip. I could have asked of course, but he was clearly in the weeds and flustered with being busy, so I decided to cut my losses and not make him feel worse. I don't know if they're just understaffed, but we ordered three things - one we never got, and the other two both had errors. The food we did get was very good, and I ended up eating most of the mac and cheese, but it was a disappointing experience overall. Shame too, because the clams casino pizza sounded great, but I likely won't be back to...
Read moreWe usually pick-up since we live 3 blocks away but I was home alone with 5 kids between ages 4 to 9 (helping out a friend) and one child had a belly ache and felt he may throw up. My phone was accidentally buried in pillows and I missed the calls from the driver. I hadn’t even realized that they wouldn’t even knock on my door and try to deliver (I live 3 blocks away!) if I didn’t answer my phone. When I called the restaurant to explain what happened, I was told that the delivery driver was just leaving but wouldn’t be at my place for at least 30 min. I explained what happened and my situation of why I couldn’t leave to pick up the pizzas instead and asked if they could make an exception and deliver to my house first. They told me sorry but I missed the call and would have to wait. I was switched to another person and of course was a little upset given the situation. I explained what had happened again and begged for them to please stop by my place first (3 blocks away!) and was told it was my fault so we would have to wait for the delivery person to do the other 2 deliveries first. At this point kids were whining and crying and I’m a human so my tone started to get a little terse given the total lack of compassion. We used to order pretty frequently from here due to easy pickup even though Modern has much better pizza but we will never order from here again. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t even attempt delivery to a place 3 blocks away because I couldn’t answer my phone and I don’t understand why they’d try to penalize us given the situation. In the time they took to lecture me as to why I had to wait 30 more minutes to get my cold pizzas, they could have just...
