Simply excellent. The best sushi you'll find in New Haven by a long shot. Rockfish manifests their noble philosophy, "Nigiri is truth." This is some of the highest quality fish I've ever had in my entire life (and I grew up on a tropical island). Order the Omakase and sit at the bar to receive starters of edamame and tuna sashimi in ponzu soy sauce, four rounds of nigiri, and two rolls–all freshly prepared in front of you. With every round, the wonderful staff explain what you're eating, where it's from, and how best to enjoy it. Critically, the fish, in all of its freshness and complexity of flavor, was the centerpiece of every single dish. Whether it was the creaminess of the yellowtail or the silky richness of the salmon, these sushi chefs knew how to perfectly complement the delicate flavor of the fish with a touch of wasabi and a bed of sushi rice. If you want to eat sushi as it was meant to be eaten, don't miss out on this special experience.

I'm 76, and I know raw fish. The chef was great and friendly and I even learned something! I had one roll which he rolled in front of me and presented to me, so it could not sit around and get cold or soggy! I had almost nothing but sashimi and spent over $50 for lunch there (without drink) and it was well worth it. The scallop and eel melted in my mouth! All of it was perfect and very impressive. The menu is a bit limited and the sushi is Nigiri. I couldn't have been more satisfied! Image is of dessert, which changes weekly, and comes from a very creative dessert chef. When I first saw it I thought someone had put their cigarettes out in a drink. Those are sticks of freeze dried cream with bits of red peppercorns. Red is strawberry jam and the yellow-green is a mousse made with lime and mint. And amazingly creative dessert and quite delicious.

It's a Friday night, we wanted to treat ourselves at a Japanese restaurant. My friends already checked out this restaurant and recommended it to us. We arrived there at 7 and there were 2 seats available at the end of the table. We ordered the Rockfish Omakase Premium. They served sushi with the fat taste increasing. Sushi was fresh, delicious. The more we went, the better they were. 👌 So if you are looking for an Omakase in New Haven area, we recommend you to try this place. They don't have drinks, but you can order drinks from the Rick's Bar right behind you. Don't forget to have desserts, they are really good by Hen and Heifer. For me, the Omakase was not enough to be full. I ordered a couple more before the dessert. So the check was 188 (without tips). . Summary: Delicious, friendly chefs, clean, will come back.

We had a wonderful evening omakase with Chef Jason tonight. He was very friendly and engaging and it was a pleasure to watch him work. The fish and presentation here are light and very fresh, letting the ingredients speak for themselves. We have ordered to go several times, but this was our first time eating at the counter. Update: We have been back several times. Highly recommend coming in person to get the full sushi bar experience. Expect a carefully paced, leisurely dinner full ofcomraderir, banter, and laughter. We continue to enjoy the full experience.

I absolutely love this restaurant. Walking in is like being in an upscale food court with nothing but the best quality. A little pricey but well worth the experience, service, and your palette will keep you coming back. Rock Fish Sushi Bar is unlike any other, truly authentic cuisine and they serve nothing but the best. I order the same thing each time I go. I'll be going again real soon, I'll try to do better with more photos. Once the food is set before me, taking pictures seems to flee my mind.

The Yellowtail and Sea Bream were quite tasty. The Mackerel, on the other hand, was very bitter and fishy, and the Cuttlefish was not seared like the website photos depicted. I think it would have tasted much nicer if it had been seared. The salmon roll was tasty, but not necessarily mind-blowing like other reviews suggested. The tamago was the clear favorite, soft and sweet, followed by the BBQ eel, which was perfectly cooked. Considering the high prices, I will likely only return for the tamago.
