Definitely a popular restaurant. When we arrived on a Friday evening around 6 pm we were met with a small line of folks ahead of us. The speed of the line went fairly slower than expected. The small, old fashioned and almost antique feeling cafeteria-like restaurant had each table filled. It's a small, divey joint that transports you back to the early days. Subway tiles cover the walls in a classic style and are rumored to be imported from Italy. I love dive bars and divey restaurants. This place had just a touch too much of that for my taste. The restaurant was moving from divey, to dirty, and almost, unkept. I am a huge fan charbroiled oysters and had to try Casamento's restaurant as one of the more popular and famous places for oysters in NOLA. We ordered two dozen charbroiled ($24.75 ea) (one for each of us), two beers and a side of coleslaw ($2 for a 2 oz serving). Our server was friendly and our order came out promptly. These oysters didn't have any charbroiled taste. They lacked greatly in flavor. The cheese wasn't melted, the oysters were warm, not hot. Overall, they were quite disappointing from a place that are "known" for their oysters. These oysters were more like baked oysters that came from an under-heated oven rather than charbroiled over flames. The coleslaw was simple and tasted as expected but in a smaller than expected portion for the price. Overall, Casamento's may have a place in the history books of serving oysters in NOLA and maybe they serve up a decent order of raw oysters on the half shell. However, as far as charbroiled oysters, there are many other establishments in the local area that serve up a much tastier plate.

To me, there is nothing quite as cool as a great family-owned restaurant that has been running for generations. New Orleans has quite a few, and tiny Casamento’s on Magazine at Napoleon is one. Founded in 1919, the original Casamento couple lived upstairs, as did a few later generations. You can easily meet members of the 4th generation working there now, and the 5th generation is coming up now. Casamento’s has a small menu of delicious fried seafood. We had the trout and the shrimp, and both were fabulous. Their French fries are properly fresh-cut, and the coleslaw is the creamy sweet variety - delicious. I don’t know who originated the charbroiled oysters dish, and lots of folks swear by the ones at Drago’s in the riverfront Hilton. My money is on Casamento’s. Large, plump, fantastic. The staff is warm and welcoming and loyal. I’d go there all the time if I lived in NOLA!

Local and authentic restaurant with over 100 years experience. Small, quaint place with some very good food and some less the satisfactory. It is not a comfortable dining environment and our server was very distracted by deliveries. Even though there was only 2 oysters, the oyster stew was delicious and very much like my grannie used to make. The catfish was well fried with crispy fries. My friend paid a little more for her chargrilled oysters on the half shell and fried oysters with fries for lunch. The chargrilled oysters were disappointing in the they were overcooked and deflated with no juice. The fried oysters were okay but not really any better than chain restaurants and this place is supposedly known for their treatment of oysters. Lunch was disappointing for over $75. We will try somewhere else next time. Too bad, because I loved the oyster stew!!!

Hands down worst dining experience I have ever been through. I'll start off by saying that I'm a server/bartender and have worked in this industry for years. That being said I have loads of patience for hiccups and such during a busy dinner rush, but this place had me angry. We drove 7 hours with 3 kids that by this time were starving and ready to get out and relax, as we all were. Within 30 minutes of waiting we already observed the wait staff had awful attitudes towards each other and customers. Second when we sat and ordered drinks we requested seperate checks. The waitress in a very standoffish tone said "We dont do seperate checks here!" I then looked around the restauraunt and could not locate a sign stating such, again we could work with this. Then we all order at the same time. My friend and her oldest son got theirs first, again not a huge deal cause they ate an appetizer for dinner. Then her youngest recieves his spaghetti plate. Nothing is said about mine and my daughters coming out shortly. Fast forward 15 minutes and my daughters grilled cheese came out and again no mention as to mine coming out shortly after that. 10 minutes later I recieve my food and immediately ask for a Togo box cause at this point we have had it. I asked the rest of the party to exit the restauraunt so I could deal with the ticket and state our displeasure. Oh and about the check, they included a 20% tip when it was hardly deserved. Takes alot for me to feel that being in the industry myself. I was then fed excuses that just dont fly and given dirty looks while stating our issue. Not one time did we see a sign that stated the tip added automatically. It was in very small print in the menu so it could easily be missed. Id be more than willing to accept that if they were inept enough to guarantee a semi pleasurable experience. $71 later for 2 dishes and a generic plate of spaghetti and a grilled cheese we could have went to sonic for. Sad to say New Orleans has been less than welcoming and hardly pleasurable. Im still in awe at at the atrocious experience we had at...

You can't get better fried seafood anywhere in New Orleans. It's worth a visit just to have one of their versions of a New Orleans loaf. They use Texas style thick white bread, so be warned, they do not have the famous New Orleans french bread. They do not use a deep fryer, they fry in a pot. Also, it is worth a visit to check out the interior tiling (make sure to go to the bathroom).

However, I give them 4 stars (verging on 3) instead of 5 because the hours truly suck. I assume the family is well off enough to not worry about money as they have very limited hours. Besides closing all summer, they are open only 3 hours for lunch, Tues - Sat, and they only open for dinner 3 days a week, Thurs - Sat. Otherwise, I would eat there much more often. I am not really sure why they refuse to open in the summers and why in such a laid back city that hey force the lunch crowd into a 3 hour time frame. Closing in the summer made sense before we had this machine called a refrigerator. Yeah, the oysters are technically out of season, but they could work around that.

Another thing that almost makes me give them 3 stars is that it is 2015 and they still won't take a credit card. They point you to the atm which charges you $3.00. I find their hours and no credit card policy frustrating, and as a result, I am not a regular, which I would like to be. When you stop by and the line is too long and it is 20 min before closing, get back in your car and go...
