Update 2/25/2022 – NOLA Mardi Gras 2022 – As always, we hit the Chart Room Bar, The Carousel Bar, and Pat O’ Brien’s when visiting New Orleans.

A friendly COV warning. - 1/6/22 was the beginning of the 2022 NOLA Mardi Gras. The Joan of Arc parade is always a masterpiece. The 2022 procession was led by — what else? — Medieval Plague Doctors. The Joan of Arc parade was scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 6, 7 p.m., French Quarter.

April 4, 2021 (Easter Sunday) Update: Sunday afternoon we stopped by the Chart Room Bar on Chartres and Bienville a block from The Monteleone Hotel. The Chart Room is a local bar and very small. However, The Chart Room Bar is one of our favorite stops in the French Quarter.
February 2021 Update: After 4 frigid days without power or water, we were able to get out of Texas and take a hot shower in New Orleans. Our last visit to NOLA was in November 2020 and there were not many people in the French Quarter. We need to support the NOLA hospitality people. New Orleans is coming back. We’re planning to go back to NOLA in April (God willing).

Every bartender is world class, the famous French Quarter barback ‘Porkchop’ is top of the pops, the $2 dollar High Life draft is the best deal in town, the jukebox spills its perfect tunes out all over the quarter’s most fortunate bar patrons day and night, Hotel Al is out in the streets yelling AMERICA at passersby, the sun is shining down on the sidewalk, the whole bar is taking tequila shots with each other, local artists are drawing portraits for tourists, and Dr. John is teaching everyone about Mardi Gras from the juke speakers. It’s a 10/10 scene every time. And if you’re lucky enough to catch one of those million dollar smiles from Julie behind the bar, well… you just saw the eighth wonder...
